I nearly wanted to do something with 'Kilburn', but that would have been in VERY bad taste.

The 1996 Sauber c15. Ford's first V10 Formula 1 engine wasn't up to speed yet, and the car wasn't very reliable, but the car was known to have potential and showed well in wet and street races (where power didn't matter so much) and was also believed to be excellent at generating downforce at high s...

Re: 90s F1 on DVD
They only started doing DVDs in 2003, with an exception of an early attempt in 2000 (which made quite poor use of the format, it being quite new then). There has been absolutely no sign of a DVD release of the 1981-2002 VHS tapes. I don't have them all, but I do have quite a few. Always liked the 19...

Oh, and the Clive James reviews are available for 1982, 1984 and 1986. VHS only, though - they never released them on DVD. "Except for the dogged Tyrells and some teams with names like brands of Orange Juice....." (San Marino 1982, probably referring to Osella). "All they needed to do...

Ok, just remembered another gem today. 1983 Austrian GP, James Hunt (and even Murray...who's not usually prone to this sort of thing) starts ripping into J.P. Jarrier for holding up Tambay, and allowing Arnoux to take the lead. The best bits from James Hunt's abuse includes... "He'll be thanki...

Let's have a think..... McLaren: They did get a grip on the low-downforce rules eventually, so the only real doubt is whether the all-Brit line-up will work. I think it will as Button isn't as self-important as Alonso was. Mercedes: Will Schumi get back on form quickly? Will Rosberg be destroyed in ...

I remember a few specific examples. Hungary 2004: Re-tagged a bunch of MP3s. France 1995: Read through a bunch of old computer mags lying around Valencia 2008: Discussed the Front 242 show we were going to see later that night I know a couple of times in 2002, I was heavily into all-night clubbing o...

There seems to be this thing about Japanese Drivers, where you never know when they're going to go The Way Of The Samurai and when they're going to go The Way Of The Kamikaze. Probably the biggest dissapointing ever would be Ricardo Rosset. Yes, he was 2nd in Formula 3000 in 1995 (admittedly quite a weak year for the series) and the F1 mags were rating him quite highly pre-1996 season. It never happened, did it? I'd cautiously mention Karl Wendlinger , who was able to be...

I'd certainly say Villeneuve in 1997 when you consider his wins that year: Brazil: Ran wide at the first corner, and would have been nowhere had it not been for the restart Argentine: Panis and both Jordans were on for the win before hitting trouble, and Irvine chased him to the line in a much-infer...

Yep, Supertecs came close to winning Grand Prix in 1999, when they were effectively 2 years old, and were still good for middle-points scoring positions come 2000 in the backs of Benettons and Arrows. So it was a decent basic unit. Indeed, Renaults engine block in 2004 was derived from the 1999 Supe...

I half-expected them to be banned from the sport, but being given special dispensation to continue as an engine supplier.
Also interesting to note that they'll still hold the win in their records, but as the other post says, the results are set in stone, written in the history books.

There was lots of overtaking back in the turbo era, but it didn't make the racing more exciting all the time. Take Prost's 1985 championship - he'd let some other driver run off in front and then just use all the fuel he saved earlier on to zip past them later. His manoevres were rarely spectactular...

The tradional approach, in real life and also in F1 Manager computer games (wish there was more of those) is one experienced old-hand who hasn't had lot of success of late, and one relatively or totally new driver. I think the whole DECISION to make the 1950-1960 Indy 500 count qualifies as a reject, since the two racing series were otherwise unrelated.
