Re: Triple Crown Constructors?

Do you have a source for the reference that De Tomaso attempted to qualify for the 1964 Indy 500? I've been looking for that one, but can't find a reference for it. There are some details here: Like so many drivers and designers, the Indianapolis 500 fascinated de Tomaso. In 1964 he wanted his cars...

Bending the rules a bit, the sight of Jim Clark in a Lotus that wasn't painted green might not have looked so jarring had he lived on: https://sportscardigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/HE200610-p1.jpg Here we have a young Carlos Sainz Sr. racing a type of car more closely associated with his so...

Re: F2/GP2/F3000 Rejects

In 1997 Nordic Racing took on an obscure, tattooed young Austrian named Mario Waltner for a couple of weekends. On both occasions he was a dozen seconds off the pace in qualifying on top of the usual character-building spins that one might expect from a driver with no experience in cars with that mu...

Re: Williams' attempt to hire Rosberg for 1988 Italian GP

I'd have to do my own dive into old magazine archives to confirm, but my understanding is that there were definitely rumours at the time that Rosberg would be driving at Monza. It's plausible also that he may have been shortlisted by Williams (Frank had previously considered ringing him up to replac...

Can't believe no-one's mentioned Tony Trimmer until now. Nah the mere fact he drove for Maki makes him a legend. Other than that? His crushing dominance of the Shellsport/Aurora series in 1977-78. It's criminal that we never got a chance to see what Trimmer was capable of on the international scene.

It's even more of an outsider here, because Saab - as far as I can see - spent so little time in motorsport; Erik Carlsson and Greta Molander's exploits in rallying in the 1960s were about as far as it went. Unless anyone knows of Saab entering, say, the Swedish Touring Car Championship in the 1980...
