Bah, nobody needs them anymore. Villeneuve is way past his prime, Raikkonen and Piquet Jr are (or at least in Nelsinho's case) racing in the Nationwide series, and not doing a fabulous job, while Speed couldn't qualify for Indy. Maybe JPM, just maybe, and that would be fantastic. But if F1 ever gets ovals, I want to see the IndyCar runners pitch in (I mean, NASCAR would be great, but fitness is a question). The issue here is costs. F1 rules nowadays makes it impossible to;
a) buy a chassis and stuff off the shelf
b) race only at certain events
These two are the major stumbling points if F1 ever wants to get the Americans (funny, IIRC, Sam Hornish is the last American Indy and IRL champion in 2006, while Jimmy Vasser was the last CART champion back in 1996).
If we do go ovals, the MIS is a must. That track needs open-wheel racing, period. I mean, chances are that the crowds will be worse than post-split levels, but who cares? Just stick the Hanford Device and we'll be on for wheel to wheel racing at every moment!
