At least The Stig is in the race, though, and the race promises to be one of attrition. Let's hope for the best, he has experience driving at the Top Gear Test Track in the wet.

It's been a crazy qualifying and we've been very lucky to escape all the craziness around. The second qualifying session was a case of avoiding traffic as much as possible and we got it right, but I wouldn't be surprised if we had finished outside the top 10. Tomorrow we'll have a very tough race. Let's hope we take the chance of starting ahead of Spencer.

We celebrated in the pit garage with finest sparkling rose water, although the weather looks like it will be wet so I am hoping that Martins with his wetter setup can score some big points. I don´t get why they (people at Trueba) aren´t working on improvements for their car. I know they have the budget and Fredo sponsors pay on time and it´s clear they would qualify if they updated the car. If things continue as they stand now we´ll have to think again if Trueba is where we want to be, I´m sure it wouldn´t be hard to land him another drive somewhere else.

With Jesus Plaza's position sealed for the long-term, Pratchett might be on his way out. If Pratchett leaves, this will leave American Racing Conglomerate with no American drivers.

The Sun wrote:Monaco rumour mill goes into OVERDRIVE

You just can't make this up. Amidst the chaos of the Monaco Grand Prix, the paddock chatter kicked into another higher gear, with more people swapping than a key party.

Oddly, perennial pre-qualifiers Trueba have been the centre of most of the rumours. Another failed buy-out attempt by Lancia was followed by rumours of team owner Giovanni Roda retiring from driving duties. Meanwhile, the Portuguese consortium expected to take over Sunshine Infiniti in the coming weeks apparently has no interest in retaining Kay Lon, and Roda is looking to replace himself with the German!

But, not if Scuderia Altialia has anything to say about it, it seems! Not only are the tireless Italian team apparently pursuing Dave Simpson, they too are looking to tie down Kay Lon to a 2015 contract.

ARC however have been keen to point out they are in advanced negotiations with Simpson, making Alitalia's pursuit of Kay Lon all the more likely.

It seems the 2015 grid will be decided by a roulette table. But which teams will be in the red and which will be well in the black come next season?

Autosprint.it wrote:Roda retires and sells the team. Scuderia Alitalia to take-over?

According to authoritative sources close to Trueba Racing Team, Giovanni Roda has decided to hang up his helmet withdrawing immediately from F1RWRS championship and to sell the team, jointly with its partners.

Gazzetta dello Sport has reveiled this unexpected decision: the rose-coloured newspaper has reported that ‘the Italian driver, starred in a disastrous season of 6 DNPQ in so much races of the season, will soon be selling his shares of the team along with those held by the President of the team (Giacomo Scaglietti) and by his pool of backers’. According to the newspaper, ‘after Monaco pre-qualifying session while leaving for home, Giovanni was noticeably so bothered of his awful performance that has said and admitted to his friends the will to put an end to his career’.

The decision would be taken following poor results achieved by Roda and his amateurish economic and technical management of the team, as well as the numerous criticisms of his domestic policy, which was recently reprimanded even by 1991 Formula 1 World Champion Chris Dagnall and the heads of the Formula 1 Rejects Teams Association (F1RTA).

News that will certainly be welcomed at the Scuderia Alitalia, which has several times tried to mount a raid on Trueba's shares in recent days. Alasdair Lindsay although was not available for comments.

I have absolutely nothing against a challenge and - although I don't like them - wet races. But today was just insane, it is a miracle nobody has died today. I have talked to a number of drivers who crashed and virtually everyone has minor bruises. I would like to point out that this is not about me or my results for once, this is about our safety as race car drivers.

Daniel Melrose, after being released from the medical center along with Nathanael Spencer wrote:While I don't agree with Mr Lon with pretty much anything, I do agree with him but the problem wasn't the conditions as I've raced in conditions far worse than we did today. No, the problem lies with the car. The regulations are virtually unchanged on last year which means the drivers are still just as exposed as they were when Dave McFaste had that awful accident where his head came into contact with a concrete wall. And then there's the question of just how slow the F1RWRS cars are compared to the cars in the feeder category. May I ask why in the first round at Adelaide, in a car with a third of the power, did Michael Cameron set a time in qualifying 2 tenths quicker than his father Gary did? Why, in race trim here at Monaco, were the F2RWRS cars, mostly carrying upwards of 30 laps of fuel, 8 seconds a lap quicker than an F1RWRS car in qualifying trim in exactly the same track conditions? Herein is where the inherent problem lies.

This is usually what happens when Melrose has one too many knocks to the head after a particularly heavy impact but still it is embarrassing where an F2RWRS car, which I know for a fact has less power than the top F1RWRS cars, can take them to the cleaners and back and an F3RWRS car is worryingly close to doing exactly the same thing.

Chris Dagnall to offer Fredo Mestolio to ARC:

According to the latest wave of rumours arriving from the Montecarlo casino, Chris Dagnall would be more than happy to lend Fredo Mestolio to ARC with inmediate effect until the end of the season, with the possibility of extending the deal into a second year if the young italian is not required by DGNgineering.
The former F1 world champion was heard saying, "ARC would be a good option. They´ve slippped a bit behind this year but they are fast enough for a young driver. Scuderia Alitalia would first like clarification from the F1RWRS commission vis-à-vis credits. Would I recieve 1000 credits as a new entrant, or retain Trueba's current chassis/engine and their current credits total. If so, what are they because I can't remember

The Guardian wrote:Scuderia Alitalia in negotiations with Trueba over acquiring team

Scuderia Alitalia has entered formal negotiations with Trueba Racing Team regarding the entire purchase of their business. It has been a well known fact for some time that Alitalia has been pushing for an entry to the F1RWRS series, and it seems they have finally found a way in.

Details about the exact nature of the negotiations are scarce currently, however The Guardian has obtained a brief memo outlining the main promises by Scuderia Alitalia to Trueba:
  • All staff will be retained but F1RWRS programme will be moved to Parma
  • Engine and chassis will be retained for the rest of 2014 season

However should they buy the team, they will not inherit any drivers. With Giovanni Roda retiring and Fred Mestolino seemingly on his way to ARC, Alitalia have further stepped up their efforts to bring in Dave Simpson on a long term deal, that could last until the end of 2015.

The fate of Trueba's Junior Team is also uncertain, as it is not known whether it is included in the takeover deal or not. We await more news.

However should they buy the team, they will not inherit any drivers. With Giovanni Roda retiring and Fred Mestolino seemingly on his way to ARC, Alitalia have further stepped up their efforts to bring in Dave Simpson on a long term deal, that could last until the end of 2015.

You will keep the current chassis and engine and current credits the team has (300 if I´m not mistaken). You must also keep the name Trueba until the end of the season, then you can rename it anyway you like it. You can do what you want with the livery.

Regarding Fredo Mestolio, you can keep him if you want, all I was asking is some action from the team direction to improve the car as they have plenty of credits!!

Or use the MRT strategy to save the credits, run two pay drivers and cash them in at the end of the year. Infact, MRT is willing to lend you the two paydrivers we currently have on our books to help (Dean O'Lauchlan and Vidal Reyna-Sanchez)

Reyna-Sanchez I understand but O'Lauchlan is actually half-decent

I want to cut a deal with the F1RWRS comission. Alitalia came on board as a sponsor with the provisio they were title sponsors. Therefore I would like to tweak the name to Scuderia Trueba Alitalia. Essentially keeping the same name, but translated from English to Italian, and with title sponsor added.

Scuderia Alitalia politely declines the offers from Dean O'Lauchlan and Vidal Reyna-Sanchez. Negotiations with Dave Simpson, Fredo Mestolino are ongoing.
