Terry Hawkin makes his return from the F2RWRS, and uses the extra experience to take pole position. He edged out Ryan Zimmer, Michael Cameron, Yuka Katayama and Carter Simpson, all by less than a tenth of a second. The cars are very evenly matched around here, and just the slightest mistake under brakes or going wide by the smallest bit can cost someone several spots.

Most of the drivers need to go learn how to use brakes into the first hairpin. Cieslar carved through the field on lap 1, and it just got worse from there. In the end, Hawkin avoided the carnage, being extremely careful when lapping some suicidal drivers to take an easy win. Greenlaw and Harmsky were the only other drivers not involved in collisions all race. In fact, Greenlaw did surprisingly well considering it's his first race in the F3RWRS. The medical centre was very busy, and a few drivers spent a while there, especially those Cieslar took out.

You'd think there would be less retirements with less cars, wouldn't you? But the faster cars didn't show much respect for the slow ones, so it was just as bad. End result: Eric Swerts makes Jones Racing the first team to win races 1 & 2, and Terry Hawkin becomes the first to score points in the first two, as well as podiums. Michael Cameron picks up the third spot, despite finding the fence on the last lap, and Donegro and Christopherson rounded out the points, while Walsh was one too many laps down. At least there were more people finding the wall on their own this time.

Due to the high number of retirements from races 1 & 2, the grid for race 3 will be set in the order of classification from race 2. As such, Car #8 Eric Swerts will start from the pole position, and Car #87 Joe Harmsky will start from position 24.

Dan Greenlaw has surprised many on his debut F3RWRS weekend, with a podium in race 1 and a solid effort in race 2 until he was hit by Cabral. In race 3, he was the victim of a Maldonado-like revenge move. On lap 13, he and Alberto Donegro were fighting for position when, into the second hairpin, Greenlaw went for a gap that quickly closed. Both cars spun, with Greenlaw righting himself first. However, he'd just past the pits when his suspension failed. As Donegro came up behind him, he moved over to the inside to let him past, when Donegro moved across and hit him again. The clash forced Greenlaw against the fence. That in itself wouldn't be a huge problem, but just before the first kink, the fence extends towards the middle of the track, effectively halving the width of the track. They were still travelling at speed and their wheels were locked together. Donegro pulled away just before he hit the wall, but Greenlaw had nowhere to go. The large impact virtually destroyed his car. There was no word from the medical centre on his condition, but the incident caused the race to be temporarily red flagged. Donegro was allowed to restart, but was black flagged on the next lap. He was 8th at the time.

In lighter news, Hawkin took his second win of the weekend to become the first non-Prospec driver to win a round, while Swerts followed him home in a comfortable second place. In fact, it was very Noah's Ark up the front, with the two Jones cars followed by both Christophersons and then the two Prospecs. Thanks to Donegro's investigation, it was two ZimSports next as well. Before the race the drivers were told to get their act together, so there were less retirements this time, it was just a dumb move by Lucarelli into turn 1 that caused the lap 1 chaos.

Round 4 - Wrap-Up

Round Winner: Terry Hawkin - 30 points, 2 wins, 1 2nd, 3 fastest laps and pole position.
Domination. There is no other word for it. He's come back from racing in the F2RWRS, and has shown all the teams precisely why he deserves a seat there next year.

Reject of the Weekend: Andoni Urrutia
What possessed him to do that to Greenlaw? That part of the track caused some problems in practice as cars left the pits, it should have been enough warning not to go near it in races.

If only because of race 2. Greenlaw's drive in race 1 gives him a run for his money though, and Urrutia in race 2 until stupidity took over.

An investigation by the stewards has been completed, and the findings shall be presented to the Commission soon (I have think of a suitable punishment - likely a race ban.)

Bathplugging hell. That was one of the biggest shunts I've ever seen, and I have seen some massive accidents in my time. Hopefully Dan will be able to make a full recovery as this weekend and last year's Bud 500 showed, he is a man with a lot of potential.

Findings of the F1RWRS Commission investigation into the incidents between Donegro and Greenlaw:

First contact between cars #28 and #2 at turn 7: On board footage shows car #28 made a fair move at turn 7, but locked his brakes. Car #2 took his usual line through the corner and could not have avoided the incident. As such, it has been determined the first contact was a racing incident and no action will be taken as a result.

Second contact between cars #28 and #2 on start/finish straight: Telemetry from car #28 shows the driver slowed and moved to inside of the track to allow faster cars (cars #7 and #2)to pass. Telemetry from car #2 shows the driver turned to the left as he crossed the control line. On board footage showed he deliberately turned the wheel. His behaviour after the incident (continued steering to the left until contact with the wall was imminent) proved beyond doubt that the incident was deliberate. As such, it has been determined that the following punishments be handed out. Alberto Donegro shall receive a two event ban, with one event suspended for tweleve months (to be enforced if he is found guilty of any similar incidents). The ban will take place during the Round of Belgium. His appearance at the Surfers SuperPrix is dependant on a review by the F1RWRS Commission based on his performance at the Round of China. Tociclao Racing shall also be given a reprimand, and will face a larger penalty if any of their drivers in the future is accused of deliberately causing an accident.

MA-Racing: Torbani out, Lilly in.

After four races, MA-Racing have decided to terminate Massimiliano Torbani's contract with immediate effect. "He hasn't shown the speed or knowledge he used last year, and has been overall very disappointing. When the year started, David (Neuberg) brought the money and Max (Torbani) brought the skill. But David showed more speed and has been promoted to the main team. So we brought in Harry Austin, who had no experience at all, and has more than often outpaced Max in both qualifying and the races. So we've taken the decision to terminate Max's contract with immediate effect."
Whilst Mr.Alexander was highly critical of Torbani's overall performances, he still found time to praise the young Italian. "Im sure he will find another drive somewhere else, weather it's here in the RWRS or not. Maybe it was our way of doing things that went against his development, we will never know."
And who for the second car now? "Its important that a British-based team help bring through British drivers. It worked for Stephen Mackintosh, who has performed well enough in the main team to attract the attention of others, and David Neuberg, who gave us our first official start in the F1 series. That's why we've given the second seat to Ashley Lilly. He's done well in the MSV Trackday Trophy, which we actively support alongside Dr Jonathan Palmer, so we are hoping he can make an immediate impact at round 5."

Ashley Lilly: Ashley Lilly, 19, began in the MSV Trackay Trophy last yer for Team Citroen, scoring two 5th places at Silverstone. This year, he has tested for MA-Racing at Brands Hatch and Snetterton, impressing the development team with his set-up skill. He brings personal sponsorship from GameStation and HMV.

French press reports that Jean-Vincent Albertini expresses his disappointment with the way F3RWRS is run, and considers following his father's footsteps.
Last month Francois Albertini sold his Albertini Siderurgia GP to Croatian Hydook Racing Team. The same is expected from his son, who reportedly "wants to get back to touring cars".

Some info for the Surfers SuperPrix:

Event outline:
- One race of 45 minute duration
- Qualifying is in several parts:
Q1. The drivers who have competed at any point earlier during the season shall take part in a usual qualifying session (15 minutes, each driver gets one flying lap). Positions 11-24 set.
Q2. Anyone outside the top 24, plus one-off drivers, compete in another session (25 minutes, 3 flying laps). Positions 25-36 set. Anyone outside the top 12 in this session will record a DNQ.
Q3. Top 10 Shootout. Top 10 cars from Q1 get 1 flying lap, by themselves. Positions 1-10 set. Running order is reverse time order from Q1 (10th goes out first, then 9th, and so on.)

Eligibility:
- Drivers must meet the regular eligibility criteria.
- Teams running one or two drivers may enter a one-off driver. However, they must drive either a Dallara F314 or Suzuki PF-14, regardless of chassis the team usually uses, and must use a three-digit number between 100 and 199.
- One-off drivers cannot score points towards the drivers championship.
- Three car limit is still imposed on all full-time teams.
- One-off teams can also enter, but are allowed a maximum of only two drivers and must use either a Dallara F314 or Suzuki PF-14 chassis.

Points:
- Points system is the same as races 1 & 3 of a regular weekend. Pole position and fastest lap worth one point.
- If a driver not eligible to score points finishes in the top 8, points will be awarded as if they were not there (i.e. one-off driver finishes 7th, then 8th place gets 2 points and 9th gets 1.)
- All one-off drivers can score points for the teams' championship if they drive for a full-time team.

That means that the Surfers entry process has begun. Any entries must be confirmed before I post race 3 for China, because I want to get it done as quickly as possible to end the year (I want to finish before the F2RWRS, just because I can).
