In the absence of Francois Albertini (POINTROX, WHERE ARE YOU?), Luca de Montmelo has taken over the Forti seat holder position for the time being. He has decided to sack Sebastian Gazurek (no surprises there) and put Martin McFry as his replacement. In the first car, de Montmelo has honored the team's contract with Giovanni Roda for 1996.

Tristan1117 do you know about the race seating arrangement for Ligier between the three drivers? And as Andrew Spokes is now at Benetton, Miko Fäkkinen and Gio van Dycke will drive all races all year for Minardi.

Maybe Martin McFry has been jumping through time in his DeLorean slightly too much (and thus signed decades ago) but he doesn't remember negociating this contract. But he is honoured that he has been considered and thus will start the season with the team...

Yes, I know. I'm not sure whether I should swap out the performance files for the drivers or just rename them like I used to do. Australia 1995 was the first test of the performance swap thing and I'd say it worked rather well. Previously, I was forced to rename the drivers because I can only access my PC on weekends but now that school is almost over I can probably edit the game whenever I feel like.

I'd like it if you swapped the files personally. Valsattis did really well for Forti last year whilst Megumi tried to crash at every corner so the difference between them is quite obvious. But it's your call.

That is why I really didn't want Scrattenheim to get Rosset's performance file for 1996.

The Ferrari management opposes Pau on grounds of safety. Tristan, I refer you to this. ;) (All of my drivers - that is Takagi, Megumi, and Robert* also opposed it)

Also, since we often make some ROTR images or video highlights, I think we should support custom helmets. :)

Well, this series has always been a continuation of The Lukas' original series and I thought the point was to use the drivers from the various seasons to find the results. So I will be renaming all the drivers in line with the drivers from that year. However, driver changes shall be done by actually switching the performance files.

Pau would be awesome, just quite unrealistic for F1 cars.

The F1RWRS ran on it in 2013 so I don't see why it would be a problem.

F1RGP2C NEWSFLASH:

F1RGP2C commissioner Tristan Jung has announced that the series will ban tobacco advertising for 1996.

The French Grand Prix has been moved to Dijon-Prenois after teams protested the safety of the Pau street circuit. Dijon hasn't had an F1 race in ten years but I suppose it is a better choice than Pau.

If you want to design your own helmet, here is a template. Email me your creations in bitmap form please.

Forti will be running 22 and 23 this season to accommodate the changes I will be making in the 1996 mod. In fact, half the car numbers have been changed, mainly because replacing all the numbers on the cars took a long time. I got to Jordan and stopped.

The European Grand Prix has been renamed to the Luxembourg GP, in the tradition of the F1RWRS.

The F1RGP2C will be returning to full length races now that reliability is slightly better (and so the minnows have a chance at points).

The only thing I don't like about the helmet template is that it is ridiculously small. At least it can be edited in MS Paint and it can actually function in the game.

Problem is, I can't think of a good design right now...

Preseason testing begins in earnest as teams prepare for the third season of the F1RGP2C. Daniel Moreno topped the session by over half a second, ahead of Tom Douglas, Pippa Mann and Andrew Spokes. Pablo da Silva set the eighth fastest time of the day, in spite of his two-race ban, in the only real surprise of the session. Valsattis was quite slow in the Ligier but he suffered from electrical problems midway through the session. At the back, Forti and Pacific are both way behind the pace but DAMS have now joined the rear of the midfield after impressive performances from both Nurminen and Fleet. Rain is expected for day 2.

The teams left a rainy Barcelona and went straight to a rainy Estoril. This time, Tom Douglas and Pippa Mann took the first two spots with Moreno relegated to third. DAMS are reaching "Caterham status" while Forti and Pacific are nearly eight seconds slower than the session leading time, barely scraping under the 107% barrier.

25. Artiom Zielenkovski (Pacific) - 1.35.809
26. Jorg Scrattenheim (Footwork) no time

More rain at Estoril meant that teams got almost no solid data. Times fluctuated greatly with Champion John Zimmer posting the 16th fastest time of the session and Tom Douglas in the Ferrari only managing 14th fastest. Jorg Scrattenheim failed to set a time because of mechanical issues. With testing over, the season is now set to begin in Australia.

Masta Valsattis:
I've had a difficult yet successful test session this week. I've completed many, many laps though so improvement is just around the corner. I'm looking forward to the first race.

Round 1: Australia

Qualifying

Code: Select all

1.Tom Douglas (Ferrari) - 1.39.036
2. Pippa Mann (Williams) - 1.39.313
3. Daniel Moreno (Williams) - 1.39.540
4. John Zimmer (Benetton) - 1.39.927
5. Kazuhiko Takagi (Ferrari) - 1.40.147
6. Andrew Spokes (Benetton) - 1.40.195
7. James Davies (McLaren) - 1.40.515
8. Rory McAllister (McLaren) - 1.40.657
9. Damon Cannon (Jordan) - 1.40.712
10. Leonhard von Gottorp (Jordan) - 1.40.746
11. Douglas Mann (Ligier) _ 1.41.135
12. Pieter Kickert (Sauber) - 1.41.375
13. Clivio Durand (Tyrrell) - 1.41.781

Code: Select all

14. Jorg Scrattenheim (Footwork) - 1.42.206
15. Poppy Whitechapel (Tyrrell) - 1.42.440
16. Masta Valsattis (Sauber) - 1.43.236
17. Gio van Dycke (Minardi) - 1.43.244
18. Miko Fakkinen (Minardi) - 1.43.274
19. Reiko Megumi (Ligier) - 1.43.623
20. Kazuyoshi Hoshino (Footwork) - 1.44.076
21. Ben Fleet (DAMS) - 1.44.636
22. Niko Nurminen (DAMS) - 1.44.964
23. Giovanni Roda (Forti) - 1.45.202
24. Martin McFry (Forti) - 1.46.528
25. Anton Kaliniczenko (Pacific) - 1.47.404
26. Artiom Zielenkovski (Pacific) - 1.47.542

And Tom Douglas puts the Ferrari on pole! That's the first non-Williams/Benetton pole position in the entire history of the series! It is also Tom Douglas' first pole position, although he does have one career victory at the 1994 Brazilian GP. Pippa Mann outqualified her teammate in her Williams debut. Takagi survived a slow time on Friday and will start fifth. Douglas Mann demolished Reiko Megumi once again. The Pacifics and Fortis are all terrible with DAMS slightly ahead. If there was a 107% rule, McFry and the Pacific would not have started.

The Australian GP was a race of disappointment for many drivers as the new circuit and extended race length heavily affected reliability. In the end, it was John Zimmer who led the way into victory, picking up right where he left off last year. However, Ferrari and Williams proved that they will pose a major threat to Benetton's hopes of a three-peat.

Tom Douglas led off the line, staking a convincing lead in the early stages of the race. The field settled down quickly with cars spreading out after Lap 10 or 11. Miko Fakkinen became the first retirement of the year on Lap 2. He was immediately followed by Douglas Mann's Ligier which had a terminal suspension failure a lap later. Meanwhile, Zimmer leapt into second place, followed closely by Pippa Mann and Daniel Moreno (in that order). Unfortunately for Pippa, the Williams' electrical system gave up and Lap 7, forcing the Williams driver out of the race on her debut.

On the same lap, Kazuhiko Takagi messed up his entire race by spinning off. He fell back to 20th and tried to make his way up the field before retiring with an engine failure on Lap 23. It was disastrous entrance for the Japanese driver. Ferrari's engine problems then struck a cruel blow to Takagi's teammate on Lap 44. Tom Douglas retired from the race while leading by twenty seconds with and engine failure, handing the lead and race win to John Zimmer, closely tailed by Moreno. Andrew Spokes equaled his career best finish with third with von Gottorp fourth, McAllister fifth and Cannon sixth.

Other highlights of this relatively dull race included a scuffle between the two Jordan drivers. Cannon and von Gottorp were battling for sixth place when von Gottorp tried to pass Damon on the inside in Turn 1. Replay showed that von Gottorp pushed Cannon to the outside of the turn, banging wheels with his teammate, before failing to get past. He would make the move stick on the next lap. Both Tyrrells retired with mechanical issues, spoiling a solid debut from Clivio Durand. Unsurprisingly, Reiko Megumi had a spin midway through the race. James Davies' awful luck returned with a vengeance; he retired from sixth with a suspension problem early in the race. Masta Valsattis was classified but he also failed to finish, his engine exploding with just three laps to go.

Reject of the Race goes to the last debutant of the day, Niko Nurminen, for finishing two laps behind his teammate and Giovanni Roda in the vastly inferior Forti. He also had an embarrassing spin in front of the pit entrance, making contact with Daniel Moreno before spending three minutes trying to spin-turn his DAMS into position. Honorable mention to Ferrari's engine program. IIDOTR to Gio van Dycke.

Oh, and Martin McFry seems to have disappeared in a streak of light. Wonder where he's disappeared off to?

Niko Nurminen wrote:No comment.

Iltalehti (translated from Finnish) wrote:Nurminen suspected for an assault

Niko Nurminen, currently driving for DAMS at the F1RGP2C, has been placed on the list of suspects on a case of assault which took place in Melbourne hours after the first GP of the season was held there. Nurminen, who was reportedly extremely disappointed at his result in the race (where he finished last), went on to have a very drunken night at a bar with a few friends after the GP. Being extremely drunk, he eventually left the bar where he had been with his friends and went missing, and was not heard from until the next morning when he checked into his hotel.

A Melbourne police source confirmed that Nurminen is on the list of suspects, and also presented us with more detailed information. "While the victim was unable to see the assailant, as the attack happened from behind, he did hear the words "perkele" and "saatana" uttered by the attacker. This indicates that the culprit is Finnish, which combined to the fact that Nurminen went missing near the area just before the attack took place has made him a suspect. Nurminen himself was also unavailable to provide himself with an alibi, citing a case of amnesia, no doubt caused by his alcohol usage, as the cause. However, because there currently is very little evidence, we are still investigating all of the leads and interrogating other Finns who were in the are as well."

Iltalehti was unable to reach Nurminen or the DAMS management regarding the matter.

All of my drivers so far have been "good guys", i.e. they don't behave badly. However, here's a story which could go either way, depending on the future of F1RGP2C (I've read that the series might end next season to avoid conflicting with the archaic F1CC). By leaving the case open for now, I can then make Nurminen either guilty or not at the end of this season (as the investigation on the matter and he eventual court process take place during it). It also serves as an explanation on why Nurminen never resurfaced in F1 after 1997 and the failed Precision Motorsports project.
