I thought it was quite bizarre to see a couple of drivers cruising with the top down on their corvette to see the track repairs. They looked like they'd been to the beach.

Yup. But somehow, IndyCar is already talking about black-flagging Pacific Team Lotus' Keith Wiggins's Lotus HVM Racing entry at the next oval if they are too slow.

Lotus has also announced they have the capacities for equipping additional cars with engines.

I guess what HVM needs now is a second car to put in their former HVM/Team Minardi USA test driver from Hungary. I guess he could get that Porkchop, Jr. up to speed.

I would laugh if Lotus got their shite together and actually made a really good engine.

watch them own everyone at every round after the texas 550k.
i'm also pretty sure the teams that lotus pulled away from won't go back to lotus powerplants anyways so maybe Simona will be the dark horse for the rest of the season.
i still think what we really need is Ford and Mazda to get involved in the engine game for next season. Mazda especially, on account of their ALMS winning four cylinder turbo in the Dyson LMPs.

The Mazda-AER MZR-R has it's roots back in 2007 when it was a LMP2 engine, and probably has roots going further back with prior AER 4-pots. IIRC it has been notorious for it's unreliability. And it's kinda hard not to win in ALMS if you are only facing one other car in the class which has equally bad luck when you got good luck. This new formula just needs time to get it's legs, and not single-spec aero.

The Texas race is starting in a few minutes. We shall see if pack racing returns..

Sato crashed, good racing otherwise. It isn't pack racing which must be a relief to the drivers.

I've got to admit, putting the race against the Stanley Cup Finals was a bad idea. Still, congrats to Dale Coyne. Although they did win in Watkins Glen 2009, people still say it's their first win. Still a great result!

That win in 2009, that was with Justin Wilson wasn't it? Why would it not have 'counted' as their first win?

Also, reading this thread just made me realise that I had not read the race report on Autosport. Would love to see Justin Wilson in a Penske or something. I always enjoy seeing him do well, ever since I saw him at Beaulieu National Motor Museum (Hampshire, England) just before his first season in the first year of Formula Palmer Audi in the late 1990s.

I forget this and coincidentally a Penske car was penalized in that race too. But its the first Oval victory for Dale Coyne.

I dunno. Friends of mine were saying "DALE COYNE WINS FOR FIRST TIME!!" or something like that. But as Bereta said, it was the first oval victory for the team. People might have gotten confused over the headline.

I'd hope that if it was a definite performance advantage then they would have been disqualified (and I'm a Wilson fan). It sounds more like the Sauber rear wing from Melbourne 2011, a technical infringement with no real impact of performance, and unlike the FIA the stewards have taken the sensible option.

A Brazilian journalist in Twitter, Victor Martins, just told that IndyCar Series is about to announce the cancellation of Qingdao round in the next few hours. It would be replaced with another race in Texas or SURPRISE a round in Pocono!

We'll see.

I ABSOLUTELY saw this coming back when it was announced IN DECEMBER!!!! Seriously! What is with open wheel racing and Chinese street circuits. THEY DON'T WORK!!!
Randy should bring a race back to Phoenix. It just got redone not long ago. Maybe put it as the first race of 2013, call it the Copper World Classic, run the USAC Sprint Cars, Indy Lights and Star Mazda as a support event, and bring top name drivers to the track. I can dream, can't I?

Here's hoping (fully unrealistically!) for Rockingham (the English one!) or Brands Hatch!

The shape of the circuit itself is fine. It's just that the surface was so horrifically bad that they cancelled the race the first time around in the 80s

I'm perfectly ok with this.

I mean, they could have gone to Ordos, which we already know is a nice track based on GT1 and Superleague races. There is also Zhuhai which is also a really good track.

I wonder who even thought making another new street track was a good idea? This schedule without the china circuit is actually pretty solid, in terms of indycar.

They repaved Pocono this year so their should be no issues with the surface.
