Jordan and McLaren are equal on a good day. We're actually going to Jerez instead of Barcelona. I agree, Poppy Whitechapel should look elsewhere for employment.

If you haven't noticed, I make a lot of mistakes. Paying attention to detail is not my strong suit. Because of the precedent set in the other series, I will re-run the qualifying.

What is this, the 2012 F1 season? Pippa Mann wins the Luxembourg GP to make it four winers in four races, stealing a race win from her teammate. Great story behind that, you will find it in the Reject of the Race section. On to the race review!

6 Observations on the 1996 Luxembourg GP

1. Turn 1 Mayhem
Turn 1 was a disaster zone. Three drivers all had massive shunts at the turn. Tom Douglas, James Davies and Pieter Kickert all spectacularly crashed out after spinning at Turn 1. The most spectacular out of the three had to be James Davies' horrific accident, his second in three races, which knocked off the entire front suspension and both front wheels off the car, all of which went whizzing by Davies' head. The F1RGP2C president Tristan Jung has called for stronger wheel tethers on the cars ever since Tom Douglas' massive crash at the Japanese GP in 1994 and Davies' accident has proved his point. Davies was taken to the medical center after the race. He has been transferred to a local hospital with a severe neck injury upon reviewing the accident while making the highlights, a piece of the suspension struck Davies' head. In real life, this crash would have almost certainly killed him. More on this later. Pieter Kickert was also checked into the med center after his shunt but was released that afternoon. Tom Douglas was knocked out of a promising top 6 finish and with Pippa Mann winning, he has been overtaken in the championship.

2. Damon Cannon proves himself wrong

Not so fast Damon! The Nurburgring saw another round of the McLaren/Jordan battle (which has been running for three seasons now). This time, Jordan came out on top. Davies' accident left Rory McAllister as the sole McLaren in the race but he was easily beaten by Damon Cannon's Jordan. Cannon had an eventful race, (he was nearly decapitated by Kickert's Sauber, GP2 physics and the airbox kept him alive) but was clearly faster than the McLarens. His teammate Leonhard von Gottorp did not fair as well, he was running out of the points when a transmission failure ended his race. Let's hope these good results won't get ambushed by a wampa on the icy planet of Hoth while investigating an Imperial probe droid. Then he'll really have to "force" himself into the points.

3. More misery for Pacific, DAMS and Forti are equal
Pacific had another miserable race. Artiom Zielenkovski and Anton Kaliniczenko are clearly trying hard but the CHAD02 is miles off the pace. The rich pockets of Petr Chaddeev may keep them in the sport for 1996 but there are questions for 1997. DAMS and Forti both had very positive weekends. Niko Nurminen finished a career-high eighth, followed closely by Gio Roda in ninth.

4. Tyrrell is terrible, Ligier is terrible, Footwork's not too bad.
Tyrrell is now the early favorite for Reject of the Year for 1996. They have yet to finish a race this season and both drivers are already frustrated at the team (Whitechapel doubly so). Clivio Durand was in sixth place when he retired early on in the race with a transmission problem. Meanwhile, Ligier is making a run for Tyrrell's money. They haven't finished a single race either. It's really quite sad. Douglas Mann drives brilliantly for half the race, then his car fails while he is in the points. Whomever is in the second Ligier normally has a shocker and fails to finish while battling with the Minardis for position. Oh well, it's a long season and these guys should stick it out to the end. On the other hand, Footwork, specifically Jorg Scrattenheim, has been a revelation this year. Scrattenheim was running in seventh place on merit before his car blew up but Hoshino was there to pick up the place instead!

5. Whoever makes the transmissions for these cars should be sacked.

6. Reject of the Race

Daniel Moreno. No questions asked. Once again, I will set the scene.

Daniel Moreno came out of the pit rotation about ten seconds ahead of Pippa Mann. Moreno dominated the entire race up to this point, only surrounding the lead to Pippa for one lap. But after his stop, Pippa Mann managed to pull within a half second of Daniel Moreno with ten laps to go. Suddenly, we had a race on our hands. But, alas, it was not to be. Pippa Mann mysteriously began to fade away, leaving a comfortable eight second lead to Daniel Moreno. Coincidentally, we saw Pippa's race engineer angrily storm out of the pit box a few laps later. But the bad karma generated by the incident was not forgotten by the racing gods. With two laps to go, Daniel Moreno spun off the road at Turn 1 and handed the lead to Pippa Mann, giving her a ten second win over Daniel Moreno. Unbelievable. So what have we learned from this ironic tale of greed, pragmatism and poor driving? Never use team orders unless you're competent enough to pull them off. Good job from Pippa Mann. Everyone knows she's a Monaco specialist after her astonishing performances in the last two years. Could she break the four winners in four races streak? Who knows...

Honorary mention to Benetton, who took the two fastest laps of the race yet still failed to beat the Williamses. Both Benettons were forced to pit due to electrical problems, which ended up giving John Zimmer a three-stop strategy (to go with his awful two-stop strategy). The silver lining was that Spokes was able to put on fresh tyres and grab fastest lap of the race on low fuel. Zimmer also passed McAllister and Cannon late in the race to take fourth. For once, it seems that John Zimmer has a teammate that can match his pace. We'll see how things turn out at the end of the year.

I can edit the damage files so that the tyres and suspensions don't come off so easily. That's all I can do. The curbing kicks the car into the air every time something hits it. If the cars in GP2 could flip, then the situation wouldn't be as bad.
