It's not as if Cannon did anything to suggest he's undeserving of a place in F1RWRS and it's not his fault he ended up at SOTL in 2013 with zero hope of getting past PreQ. He was never outperformed by any of his team-mates (except at the 2012 Bavarian Grand Prix and we all know that doesn't count  ) and never did anything uber-rejectful so I think it would be pretty outrageous to stop him driving in 2015.

Come on, there's 89 drivers eligible to drive, far more than we need, actually. I'm sure whoever chose Cannon can sign another driver from the list.

And how many drivers are eligible to race in Formula 1?

89. The only thing is though, the five driver cap effectively reduced that number by a certain amount which may make it more difficult than it seems for the lower teams to fill their seat if they aren't going for the team users' own drivers or a complete random hey-it-doesn't-make-sense-but-the-guy's-got-a-license signing.

By Formula 1, I mean real life Formula 1. The point was, there were many more than 89 options for, say, Marussia when they wanted to replace D'Ambrosio at the end of last season.

Also, that 89 includes drivers who are never coming back (eg Adam Lewis, Dan BH) and those who are retired (eg Gary Cameron, Phoenix McAllister). It's not a big enough pool for me.

Does rule 5.1.4 - the fastest team in pre-qualifying on total times does not take part in the next pre-qualifying session - apply over the off-season? Just because Prospec were the fastest pre-qualifiers for the first time this season at Fuji and we would really rather like to not have to bother with pre-qualifying at round one in 2015 ;)

I am afraid not, for a new season the bottom nine do duke it out in the first session and Prospec is eleventh, i.e. the best team to have to do that session. Don't worry, you've got Kay Lon so there won't be any trouble.

Um, I thought Prospec was 12th? 11th doesn't have to do PreQ.

Autosport wrote:Jones expresses sadness over McAllister's retirement

A noticeably downbeat Sammy Jones gave his reaction to the media in the wake of Phoenix McAllister's announcement that he'd be retiring from racing with immediate effect, instead switching his focus to his team, which will be completely re-branded as Aeroracing Engineering for 2015.

"I'm gutted, I really am. Phoenix is a valuable part of the paddock, he's often outspoken, but ultimately he's an honest, decent guy. We've never seen fully eye-to-eye, but in more recent times we've become good mates, and I find it saddening that I won't see him out on track in 2015. I understand his feelings at wanting to focus more on the management side of things though. Trying to balance it alongside driving is a tough ordeal, and I've no doubt that Aeroracing will benefit from his increased presence on the pit wall during races. I wish him all the best for the future."

McAllister joins a growing list of retiring former greats of the F1RWRS, alongside 2010 champion Gary Cameron, as well as the rumoured exits of 2011 champion Nathanael Spencer, and 2012 champion Pippa Mann. It's also believed that Daniel Melrose, having parted ways with Jones' team CJR, will also seriously contemplate retirement in the next few weeks as seats on the F1RWRS grid for 2015 begin to dwindle.

I wouldn't exactly think it's a good idea to sign either of the Ultimate Racing RoLFS drivers without Shadaza's permission. But then again I would really like to see Ultimate Racing in F1RWRS as a team one day.

Kingfisher to Melrose: Now or never.
It seems Mr.Alexander has been in deep thought for the last few days and has come forward with a very blunt statement. "I would love Daniel Melrose in our team for next year. We will make a position for him, for every race. That's all I'm going to say. We have enough money to develop this car into a competitive machine. That's it, the ball is now in his court. I want a yes or no. Simple as that."

Sammy Jones wrote:A pretty awful race by my own standards, I struggled to get into a rhythm with the heavy car as I'd opted to one-stop it and the retirement put me out of my misery to be fair. Seeing Daniel clinch another points finish is a fantastic way to finish off his career with Castrol Jones Racing in the F1RWRS though, I'm delighted for him, and I truly wish him well in whatever position he finds himself in for 2015. He also has the honour of scoring the team's 250th point in the F1RWRS, a milestone we're delighted to have reached. We've been able to secure 5th place in the constructors' championship, and whilst it's less than we'd hoped for, having led it at about half-way through the season, without the power of the turbo cars, and the more developed Gillets I think we've done ourselves very proud indeed. Now we move onto the non-championship races at Indianapolis and the Nurburgring, two events which I'm really looking forward to, and hopefully enjoy the final moments of working with Melrose in the team together. For 2015 I have a good feeling about the car, and about Rosco who I expect to surprise a few people. Announcements about the new car will follow in the near future.

A question: is the retirement of either Nathanael Spencer or Pippa Mann definitive? Because I would be glad to sign one of them, or Daniel Melrose if he shows interest. As for James Davies, well, I might consider him too but I make no bones of the fact the three drivers listed before are my priorities.

Wait a sec, the race weekend is over, away with these things. Anyway, a good third place, being the only car not lapped, was enough to secure third place in the teams' championship and haul myself into the top 10. Now, on a personal note I must thank the old management of the team for hiring me after having been sacked in front of the Japanese GP before this one. I also thank Mr. Lagos for not cutting support on me after the miserable start to this season. I wish both Sunshine and Shin all the best for their futures. For now, my target will be to have a very successful return to Jones Racing at the Nordschleife race before joining Prospec for the next season. However, that is the future: now it is time to get drunk, get down tonight and if there's time, find a golf car.

Pippa Mann: Probably yes
Spencer: Technically, he didn't retire. He just has his career absolutely wrecked by Nicolas and the trigger-happy team boss

Although it was his own damn fault he had three race ending accidents and two absolutely horrible wet-weather drives in the 12 or so races that he did.

Wizzie, is your driver offer still "on"?
Pointrox, did Albertini get offers from other teams?

Some Hoplessly Inaccurate Tabaloid wrote:Krautmeir to make return to F1RWRS?

It's emerged in the aftermath of the Japanese GP that German driver Jeroen Krautmeir may make a sensational return to the F1RWRS, having walked away from the sport in disgust at the end of 2012. It's not yet known which teams are interested in signing him, but S.H.I.T understands that both Autodynamics and Aeroracing Engineering are seriously considering giving Krautmeir a second chance in the series.

Douglas Mann in risk of loosing seat to McFry

After a flattering offer from Aeroracing Engineering, it's widely believed that the retirement of Pippa Mann will not actually go ahead. Instead the 2012 champion has decided to hog the Foxdale spotlight for a little while longer, and will instead force brother Douglas Mann out in place of rookie sensation Martin McFry who was denied a shocking podium in Japan when he ran out of fuel on the final lap.

Phoenix, you can always go for Nathan Scott, he might not be the fastest driver around but he has Qualifying performance invested in him and that os just what Aeroracing may need to get the car on grid (or any other team in the lower part of the field)

And now for something you all forgot about (probably...)

2014 F1RWRS Bud Light World 800
Just to refresh your memories, this year's race is technically this year's races. Now run to 800km, rather than 500 miles, race 1, held on Sunday morning, is 99 laps, with race 2 in the evening being 100. The starting grid for race 1 is decided by the qualifying session below, with the finishing order determining the second grid. At the end of the race points are awarded (based on the V8 Supercar system, but modified so all 44 starters get points, regardless of if they finish or not). At the end of the event, the driver with the most points is awarded the Dan Wheldon Memorial Trophy, with some prizes for the podium getters in the individual races as well.

Qualifying Day:
But, first things first, it's qualifying time. Similar to the last editions, each driver got one flying lap to set their time within a one hour session - finding the right time to do it was key.

It was no surprise to see the MRTs lock out the top 4 spots on the grid, but what was surprising was that it was their F2RWRS drivers who will start on the front row. Both having already done F2 qualifying in faster cars had an obvious advantage. It was a similar story at Gillet, although stranger as Swerts wasn't racing in the FedEx 100. It was also noticable at HRT, with Tommy Nash qualifying very close to Whitechapel, and at Scuderia Alitalia. Three of the four Jones cars did well, with Melrose leading the way, although Terry Hawkin, fresh from victory on the Gold Coast, found traffic on his lap. Two teams were added to the entry list, Red Bull Autodynamics GP doind a solid job, with a car ready for 2015, and Donkervoort, who might get an entry into the main series in a few years, and they were way off the pace of even the Tropicos. But IIDOTQ went to Daniel Martins, who followed Nicolas all the way around for extra speed, and it paid off beautifully.

12. Phoenix - 3 pts
13. Prospec - 1 pt
14. ARC - 1 pt

Prospec ahead of ARC? How was this tie broken, and does this mean we avoid pre-qualifying at the start of next season?

Simpson scored a 7th place for Prospec very early on in the year. ARC's second best result was like 12th or something

Will there be DNQs? I'm still confused... :?

Does this by any chance qualify Seron as being able to 'drive an F1RWRS car at competitve speed'? :P

Are you implying my team might not be fast enough to qualify next year? Turbos are banned, our engine is maxxed out on power and I was planning to maybe seek for a better chassis, so how that can be?

I'm really tempted to give Nathanael Spencer a try, on the proviso his owner will invest on his performance file.

Alright, lads - with one non-championship race starting, it is time to prepare the second. According to my entry list the following teams need to name at least one more driver

Valvoline Holden Racing Team
Virgin Melrose Racing Team
Donkervoort Automobielen
Mecha Grand Prix

Please do so before the Bud World 800 is done, otherwise I will assign you some drivers ... which will be awful.

I thought MRT already had a full entry list for that race :|

Who have we entered for that race?

Rhys Davies / Mitchell Macklin in one car.
You need a second driver to join Phillippe Nicolas.

In that case, put Macklin as Nicolas' partner and shove Nathan McKane in the second seat

Before I enter a third driver, do drivers for the NC races require licence? :?

A Superlicense isn't required for non-championship races. Hence why they can be used to gain a superlicense under Criteria D.

In which case I think my case for BvN getting a Reject License might be stronger. He's already qualified ahead of the highly respected David Koczo (who spent all of this season being miles faster than all of his team-mates in pre-qualifying), and is very close to the very highly rated young talent that is Andrej Kremnicky. A strong drive and I think the F1RTA may have to revise their stance on him! :)
