Thanks for reminding me. You guys think the Sky Pre-Race show is over the top? The ONE/Ten pre-race show over the top... of love for Webber and Ricciardo. Probably because 90% of viewers in Australia have only ever heard of those two, Vettel and possibly Alonso. Note that I DIDN'T say Schumacher because he retired long before Webber finally got a top-line drive and therefore became relevant to the casual Australian viewer.

You guys haven't watched the German pre-shows: incredible pathos that wouldn't be misplaced in cheap sport films and jingoism up the tree. If one's lucky you will get something about other championship contenders but from there on it's downhill. And Niki Lauda is bloody annoying at times.

I will allow myself to disagree with you. It is not the team's job to make their team radio understandable for everyone. DTM has team radio in German and I can imagine a number of team radio transmission in other national or regional series are done in the respective language; as long as there is no ruling otherwise, giving Ferrari hell for Italian team radio is out of place. Other teams could try that as well, they don't, it's their problem.

And while you talk about niche-languages, I think forcing teams to speak the language with most native speakers would be hilarious - Mandarin Chinese radio messages everywhere and HRT with their new driver winning by the virtue of being the only one to understand when to pit.

Spanish and Italian share the same basic language structure, whereas English is a very different language and therefore harder for a continental European to become fluent in. Taking such measures would therefore ensure no instructions are lost in translation and give less room for error. Therefore, making radio calls in Italian makes more sense. So I think you should take your selfish casual racism and stick it where the sun don't shine. Si stare sul cazzo.

There's no reason whatsoever in my opinion that an Italian talking to a Spaniard who is fluent in Italian, both of whom are working for an Italian company comprised primarily of Italians and completely of Italian-speaking people, should speak in English. They are doing their job, and if they can do their job most effectively through a particular language then why not? I don't feel that they're using Italian as some secret code.

OR the other Spaniard who worked for an Italian team getting spoken to in Italian... or the Brasilian working for the very same Italian team spoken to in Italian. Not to mention that the said Spaniard has been spoken to in English since the dawn of his career from an italian team, to a French team, through a British team, and also the first two years in this said Italian team. Oddly enough this whole schtick in Italian has begun only recently, and there has been some controversy regarding the usage of radio messages in the team before aswell. So I refuse to apologize for my "selfish casual racism" (Which doesn't make sense btw, Since I don't speak any of the mentioned languages as a native one) and maintain that they, being a team known thorough history for their shady tactics and always trying to get a leg up on the competition through any means necessary, are doing just in a desperate manner to confuse their opposition, which I am very ready to say hasn't worked since the first time and continuing to do so only infuriates about 70% of the people who watch these broadcasts (I doubt Italians and italian-fluent people make up even that much of the F1-fanbase) and makes them seem petty.

Wrong. Italian is NOT one of the more widely spoken languages on Earth. The few lists and surveys I managed to dig up place it outside top-10, some even further. The first occurrence of Alonso being talked to in Italian was at the 2011 Turkish Grand Prix so one could argue that it only seems like a new trend because FOM concentrates on the leader's team radio and Alonso happens to be amongst the leaders of past races more than in recent months.

However, I must also say that I cannot understand some of those people complaining here that DonTirri's just arguing for the sake of it. If he were to do that, I think he would have chosen a more emotional topic. I do not agree with him but his point is understandable and not just pulled out of his rear, so let's cut that one out for at least this discussion. We ain't Autosport's forum, boys.

And yes. I think that any non-english language is not acceptable. For years it has more or less been an unwritten rule to use english over the radio, or can you bring up ANY other situation where anyone has used anything BUT english? I mean Hell, English is the de facto language of almost any other international sport, AND is also the standardized language on Aviation communications. So excuse me if I bring out my opinion about it.
