Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2012 Hungary

Post by Shizuka »

based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Charles Pic's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

Results to be done: August 4th, Saturday

1) Kimi Raikonnen - To overcome kers fault, going backwards at the start to scrap for the win says it all

2) Bruno Senna - Avoided going backwards, raced well with an ex-champion and showed the doubters that he has the pace

1. Senna - Surprisingly good weekend overall.
2. Räikkönen - That was a ballsy move after the second pit stop.

1. Senna - Much better than usual. Now he just needs to back it up.
2. Raikkonen - This will be the last time I nominate either Lotus until one of them wins.

1. Senna
An absolutely solid 7th, scoring more points again than Maldonado.

2. By default, it has to be Räikkönen
Nobody else has done any IIDOTR-worthy. We know the Lotus is decent, but if he can constantly keep this scoring, I might say he's an outside contender for the WDC.

1. Bruno Senna: Not only reached Q3 for the first time this season but also had a brilliant race. He will catch Maldonado in the championship very soon at this rate.
2. Kimi Räikkönen: After his mediocre qualifying, I didn't expect him to fight for the race win.

It is very much a race where the choices are by default - Bruno Senna's points finish is relatively remarkable considering his recent struggles, whilst Kimi's performance, albeit not exactly surprising given that he has also been consistently competitive throughout this weekend, was nevertheless impressive given his initial problems.

Overall, though, it was a fairly unremarkable race - most of the drivers finished pretty much where you'd expect them to, save for Bruno Senna and, to a lesser extent, Kimi.

1- Kimi Raikkonen - A great race from a relatively lowly grid position. Seriously expected the Iceman to get bored, but he kept in it, put in some stunning laps, and a great overtake on Grosjean, to seal my vote.

2-Senna - They say that when your seat is under pressure you drive better, and this was certainly true today for Senna

2) Senna - Better than Maldonado yet again, I didn't see him getting any points to be honest.

Kimi Raikkonen - made an absolute mockery of Grosjean.
Bruno Senna - admittedly, he had an easier time due to the nature of the circuit, but he, too, made a mockery of Button, Webber and Massa.

2. Kimi Raikkonen - Those laps before his second stop was the stuff of legends and hounded Hamilton all the way to the end.

It's going to be either Senna or Räikkönen at this point, as all the others (Pic, Hamilton, Grosjean and Massa) got one vote each only so far.

1. Senna - good finish for a driver who has spent the last several races looking like the most anonymous man in F1 not to have a Toro Rosso contract.
2. Raikkonen - not that improbable, but that tells you what the race was like. Great strategy and put Grosjean in his place.

Grosjean nearly took it off the road a couple of times, and generally didn't look as good as Raikkonen in the car. A 3rd is a great result for the young man. I can see him being a Trulli/Fisichella type though.

Another no brainer this week, this time in the form of Bruno Senna: outshined the Reverend almost all week (sans qualify only for a couple of places), fenomenal overtake of Checo in turn 2 and stood his ground against the big guns. Is he starting to finally answer his uncle's calling?

Honorable mention to Kimi Räikkonen: another so close yet so far. Maybe Spa will gave The Iceman that long awaited victory?

I will also go with the trend.

1. Senna - he was outracing his team-mate all weekend. He will need more of this mind you.
2. Raikkonen - He saved his tyres and put in some amazing laps to suddendly leave the pits second from what was a fifth before the pit round. A great job!

2. Pic (better than Glock in qualifying, better than Glock during the race)
