and not to stray off topic: Why is everyone hailing Button as some sorta great driver? He had hte best bathplug car in the field for half a year, and was nowhere near the top the rest, managing to keep his lead due to Brawns ingenious strategical mind, Mercedes' awesome engine and Red Bull's misfortunes. (And Brawn's favoring him over Rubens. I highly doubt Rubinhos tiretroubles were caused by any flaw on Bridgestone's end.)

Hell, even Keke Rosberg, who won a single race in his championship season is more deserving than Jenson. Granted, Keke won only cause Pironi got injured... But all year, he was right up there fighting with the renaults, ferraris and brabhams, on a car that gave away at least 50, most likely more Horsepower to the competition.

He's actually worse than Mansell. Atleast Nige managed to snatch several wins on weaker machinery. Jenson on the other hand... Well, yeah.

Because Lewis was driving a McLaren, had a history of successful racing and was widely tipped to do well. And that was nearly three years ago - didn't you notice the hero's welcome at the time? That big, tedious, all-pervading hero's welcome across all the news and coverage for the next two years? You can't expect KK to pull off an exciting passing move and everyone to go "yay for Lewis!"

And because, generally speaking, the new drivers this year have been wet blankets and trundled around like cannon fodder. KK was widely expected to be the wettest of the lot, having only managed 16th in GP2, yet seemed to be the only one who'd actually routinely attack and defend positions, even against the new world champion, and looked like he might be a bit of a star of the future. Yes, Button was heavier, but so often you see cars coming out a little way in front from pit stops who manage to successfully defend their position.

Anyone else sick of the fact that the manufacturers all complained that cost cutting in F1 was bad, then they all leave citing spiralling costs as the reason for quitting? Don't say its because they had too many members of staff to ditch to cut the costs because in leaving F1 they are effectively sacking the lot of them.

It's all a conspiracy really. The Ferrari management decided to embarrass themselves on purpose in order to keep the Ferrari-haters happy(a small compensation for almost completely dominating the first 10 years of the 21st century...) :mrgreen:

Disagree with Badoer. Luca has had sod all racing expereince since his Minardi seat, whereas Gene won this year's Le Mans 24 Hours third time of asking.
So yeah, its only sportscar racing, but at least he has been racing this season...

I can give you the definitive answer: the regulations state that a team is only allowed to field four drivers during a season.

Thinking it more seriously, perhaps Fisichella received orders to only stay on the track, bring the car home and don't disturb Raikkonen. It usually happens with subbing drivers...

Yeap, that's a nice note, many people do believe that was the reason Schumi backed out: to keep his reputation intact... which (again) puts Raikkonen's talent in a completely different light...

I don't think that would be the case anymore. Gone are the days of only showing Silverstone, Monza and Monaco. F1 is too popular just to ditch from the schedules simply because none of the races happen to take place on British soil. The other 16 races were given equally thorough coverage this year, and there's no reason that it should be any different without the British GP. You don't see any less enthusiastic coverage of England's away games.

But, like I say, they have no reason to. They clearly wanted F1 in the first place, otherwise they wouldn't have bid for it - and there's more to British interest in Formula 1 than the mere fact it happens to take place in Northamptonshire once a year. Not least the fact that the last two world champions have been British.

The people not attending Silverstone won't notice much difference, and the people attending Silverstone wouldn't have been watching the race on the BBC anyway.

What happened to CART??? I'm spending the offseason watching CART races from the mid 1990's and the races are great, Cleveland 1995 is one of the best ever races in open wheel motorsport.

The infamous CART/IRL split happened, unfortunately. CART became ChampCars, eventually went bust and merged with the IRL, which was a damn shame.
