Schumi trying the same tactics he used at the end of Q1.

Kamui 4th! Which becomes 3rd with Button's penalty.

Kobayashi's storming qualifying might have its wings clipped as he went green under yellows, if he can prove he slowed then fine, but I will not be surprised (but mighty angry) if he finds himself starting alongside Jenson Button

Vettel putting F1R to shame. Keep it up, boy. Get them mad.
It would suck if Kobayashi got demoted though. He deserves to start high up at his home GP, and demoting him would push Alonso higher up, which is always bad.

Caterham has dropped off the cliff this year. They are making progress backwards - if this keeps up, they'll be fighting with both HRTs as to who gets to the last row...

According to the BBC, Kobayashi might just get away with it - whilst he set his fastest middle sector time when yellow flags were being waived, they seem to think that he did slow down just enough where the yellow flags were being waived to avoid a penalty. The question may now be whether Vettel is penalised for allegedly blocking Alonso on the latter's qualifying lap - if so, then Kobayashi may be gaining rather than losing places.

Maybe he's still jealous of how well Hamilton and Massa "got along" last year, so he wants to 1-up them at his home GP. After all, Grosjean, his new-found lover, is right beside him...

OK I don't want to start a massive flame war here, but seriously why all the Vettel hate? On the SpeedTV Forums its because they're all (including the three announcers by their own admission) madly in love with Hammy, but on here I don't quite get it. Is it because he wins? Is it because he's German? I don't by the "he's arrogant" arguement as ALL drivers are arrogant and Vet's interviews on Letterman and Top Gear were actually really funny. And I don't buy the "he has the best car" arguement either as he scored points in a turd BMW as a bathplugging teenager, and he won in a Toro Rosso, which yes was in the rain, but doesn't rain show skill? Maybe I'm biased as I've been a fan of RBR since its days as Jaggggggg but I really don't understand all the anti-Vettel comments, not just here but in general. You'd swear he's Schumi or something.....

Vettel is just a very dislikeable person. Schumacher was far more genuine, and even when he was dominating he stayed focused and took the sport seriously. I don't mind people being arseholes as long as they don't try to hide it. Vettel is full of false modesty and yet you can clearly see he thinks highly of himself, despite the fact that Red Bull's bias towards him is evident and without Red Bull he'd be screwed. Other than that, the only human aspect is when he whinges, which makes my toes curl.
To be honest, I think Hamilton is the same. A lot of people think he's an arsehole too. But his driving style is, and I'm putting my head on the line here, at times the closest we've come to Senna's. Vettel is just car + preservation of tyres, never won a race from far back on the grid.
Overall, Vettel is devoid of any personality in both driving style and on a human level. He's a great F1 competitor, and yet as a racer I haven't really understood him that much.

It was a mistake by Petrov, although it seems that both drivers were struggling a little with their set ups in qualifying (Heikki mentioned that he had problems with his front tyre temperatures in qualifying). Petrov mentioned in his post qualifying comments that he was struggling with tyre warm up problems over a single lap, whilst he made an error in Turn 14 on his second flying lap that ruined his lap (he was around 0.7s up on his earlier time, which would have put him a lot closer to Heikki).

I wasn't insinuating a Hammy bias on here, although go on the Speed boards whooo boy. Even the announcers, who post occasionally, got called out on it and their response was "Well 3 of us are British", although they don't much care for Button......
![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)
Anyway back to Vettel, I think his rare moments of humanity make them genuinely funny especially Canada 2010 "Who has the fastest lap of the race?" "DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!". And yes RBR clearly favors him, but Mansell, Hamilton, Button, Schumi, and Mika were all in the same boat. Meh, different strokes for different folks, I don't think anyone is wrong to hate on anyone, I was just curious as no "one thing" stands out about Seb, at least to me anyway. Thanks for the insight though, it does help a bit.

I don't really get all the Vettel hate either, although the pointy finger winds me up a bit.
I think he is very mature for his age and if he has the odd moment of petulance, well, he is doing a lot of growing up in the public eye and handles himself pretty well on the whole.
I wish he'd get shot of Red Bull though, there are too many yes men there and I want to see him stretch his wings a bit in a team not built around him.

Re: 2012 Japanese Grand Prix Discussion Thread
One of the many reasons i don't like Vettel, is that i generally don't seem to like the people who tend to like him. The same thing i had with Schumacher back in his glory days, and Hamilton in his... eh, glory days.
But the Schumacher dislike has dissapeared now the general public sees he's human too, so i guess the Vettel dislike could dissapear too over time.
We rejects just seem to prefer people doing stupid things like Maldonado , or nice blokes like Webber. I guess it's just a case of who you can identify yourself with the most.
Also today we see quite a lot of different personalities on the grid, which makes likes/dislikes more pronounced.
Another reason is because Red Bull is full of annoying people (Marko, Horner), and we just dislike Red Bull, and by defenition we don't want any of their drivers to win (unless if they're Webber)
And don't underestimate this: his name just sounds incredibly boring![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

That is very wishful thinking because Kobash would most likely be swept up in whatever RMN GRJN or Maldolan cause if they wipe out the front row.
