Re: Forum Facts
Okay, now we've all settled down somewhat - and as the actual wise leader before whom you should all be kneeling This - let me just say that the board has increased in size and frequency of posts that I honestly have no idea what's going on most of the time.
If there are people out there just mindlessly bashing drivers in post after post, or post about posting, then that should indeed stop before it gets unenjoyable for people to visit here.
This site is about a love of mediocrity above all else, and not taking yourself too seriously. If we have people not posting this this vein, they should get with the program, or head to another site.
If this means more moderators with the power to email someone a quiet word, then we might have to look into this. I'm not even sure our current moderators frequent all of the forums. Perhaps we should look into a moderator or two per forum.
Although I will say, after the goings on in Japan, bashing Grosjean cannot possibly grow old..... JOKE. JOKE. Calm down.

Does that mean mad Uncle Melrose can finally get the keys to the asylum?

Of our four user moderators only two are currently active (CarlosFerreira and thehemogoblin both having left the forums a long time ago), and Mario is unlikely to visit the PMMF so that leaves only Phoenix as someone who currently patrols all of the forums. With the forum having grown so large and featuring members from all across the world from different timezones, there's definitely a need for a few more trustworthy members to have the rights to correct wrongdoings before they escalate into bigger arguments.
Considering that I've got a few years of experience working with phpBB and regularly spend multiple hours per day here, I think I would be a quite good moderator. Especially the Perry McCarthy forum, which is 100% community-driven, needs someone to organize it.

If you need another mod to make up the numbers, I do spend an above average amount of time here, and look at pretty much every post.

I'd agree that you'd be a pretty decent moderator too, considering that you are pretty level headed and have some experience in dealing with web forums. I'll admit that it might be useful to have some additional support, especially since I am going to have limited internet access and free time over the next few weeks (if not longer) to help out around here.

Myself and Nuppiz? We could play the good cop/bad cop angle on any troublemakers
To be fair, I'm not suggesting I go around disciplining people - rather, I've got a complete understanding of phpBB software, and this place needs better technical maintenance. Jamie, this means giving different rights than "Basic Moderator", that doesn't give anyone enough tools to even deal with spam never mind rowdy members. Anyone who is designated to moderate the forms needs the tools to do so, and right now it sounds like no-one does.

Exactly, it's a lot easier to fend off spammers when you can actually ban them instead of just deleting their posts until they're banned by the higher-ups (not blaming you J & E, I know you have a lot of better, more important things to do than patrol the forums all the time). On the other hand, the current security measures seem to be good at fending off spambots - the most recent spammer was actually an old account that just activated itself months after registering. But you can never be too sure.
Speaking of moderating & administrating, I went through the member list and as it turns out, 1196 of the 1861 registered members (64,3%) have no posts to their name at all. A quick glance shows that about half of these are clearly spambots (advertising links in the profile etc.). Add to that that some of the one-time posters seem to be spammers as well, and you could easily cut the current member by almost half of what it currently is without deleting any human account. That could potentially decrease the workload on the forum's hosting service and through that improve its reliability (despite there not having been a crash as of late, I wouldn't be surprised if we would see at least some downtime before this year's end).

4000 posts in one year? Bloody hell.
I would have a higher post count, if it wasn't for the fact that I had a grand total of 19 posts in my first six months on the forum.

My first post came on the 26th June 2010. My second post was on the 21st March 2011. That's almost a Jan Lammers-esque gap between posts...

Re: Forum Facts
Anyway, back to more mods and spammers.
I propose a spammers subforum
I saw it on one forum I read tonight
Subforum: Spam.
Description: "If you're a spammer wanting to advertise Viagra, penis enlargement, handbags, sunglasses or just have $100M dollars to give us via a Nigerian scam, then post here!!"
Maybe they'll fall for it?
edit: Of course we would have to add shoes to that list.
Also one other forum had someone selling swim caps. It was really weird, posted like a normal person and their link was to a general guide on swimcaps and articles, not to a seller, and they even logged into chat and asked if anyone was online. Except for that activity, they never came back or were even banned, and it was a website about chillies, nothing to do with swimming. I could never work that one out.

Some people may remember when my sister was going to be on Hollyoaks, but then her scene got cut and she wasn't on. Then I would be nearly in GP3 (currently 79th, 77th would be the last GP3 cockpit)
BTW, would you use the order F1-GP2-GP3-Renault 3.5 or F1-GP2-Renault 3.5-GP3?
If we use the first one, I would have the second Tech1 car in Formula Renault 3.5, if we use the second one, I would get the first Lotus car in GP3.

I'd use F1, GP2, FRenault 3.5, GP3, F2 and FRenault 2.0 as the order. In my opinion that is pretty much accurate to the competitiveness of each class.
