Kostas manages him now. The way it works is that the team the driver drivs for manages them, and if they are fired or leave and there are multiple offers for that driver's service, the driver's old team chooses where they go. :)

Lauda returns to Formula 1 with Audi!


Audi Sport are entering formula 1 for the first time in 1980! The German manufactor has had a sudden resurgance in Motorsport activities in recent years, along side their F1 project is a heavily rumoured return to the World Rally Championship using their new Audi Quattro - a technology that will be heavily advertised in Formula 1 also.

"Audi are proud to announce their return to racing, the first time the 4 rings will be seen in Grand Prix Racing since the days of Auto Union!" Said the Audi board "We will be running a design losely based off a Customer Chassis - we would like to thank Gordon Murray for his generosity and assistance for giving Audi a base line to start with - and would also like to stop any rumours going around about us finding his old note book in a bin! Our first year of Formula 1 will be focused on engine development, we feel that the chassis is a very good base line and engine development will be the major innovation in the forth coming years! We are proud to introduce a Straight 3 Turbo Charged unit as our engine for the forth coming year... We will also be supplying a customer engine to TAG engineering who will be doing their own development of the engine with one of our rival teams, it will be interesting to see who can bring out the best in the engine! Our plans are to use this small engine block so we will have more space to work inside the car to develop better turbo charged systems. The chassis is fairly large due to the base line of our car being used for a V12 unit and so we will have plenty of space to fit further systems to our car."

"We can also confirm today that 2 time world champion, Niki Lauda will become the lead driver of our team, we look forward to great success with Niki - his previous experience is of a great variety, where we have seen in the past where he has been able to develop chassis and a variety of engines to help bring the best potential out of the combination on track - we were very pleased to see that he was enthusiastic about the Turbo Package and are glad to have a highly experienced driver contribute to the development."

Niki Lauda was not present during the launch, apparently he was at another press conference regarding his new airline

Audi has come under much criticism since they announced their presence in F1, choosing drivers who as of last year were deemed "has-beens", requiring the services of drivers who on paper - are seen as champions, but in 1979... were driving at a reject worthy standard, being out-done by their rookie team-mates and ultinately, saked before the season was complete! 1978 champion Mario Andretti was the first of the "has-beens" who was picked by Audi, but this ended up coming to nothing as the Italian born American joined Mezario instead... over to Lauda who was seen as a "2nd choice" for Audi. Audi were also looking at obtaining the services of Stefan Bellof, a promising new German driver who was seen as the new face of German motorsport - a marketing ploy to help give Audi and Germany a better motorsport reputation.

"Audi cannot hide the disapointment of not being able to hire Bellof, however we respect his desission - we have several other candidates to fill the 2nd seat ranging from promising new talent, to highly experienced drivers who will be able to develop a car

We have not given up on Bellof joining us in the future and we hope that our performances can do the talking this year to help make him regret his decission"

Audi are expected to announce their second driver soon

Now the only seats left up for grabs are the second Shadow seat, and the Lukas still needs to name a replacement for Sedlak as he is injured

Well, you can have a DFV, or negiotiate for a Ford Turbo, a Ferrari , a Ferrari Turbo, a Volkswagen turbo, a Lamborghini, a Honda, a Peugeout/Talbot turbo, an Alfa, or a Renault. Or you can bring another manufacturer into the sport :)

If we look at the finishing stats:

Ferrari turbos finished 14 races out of a possible 30 (introduced at Kyalami)
Renaut turbos finished 13 races out of a possible 34
Honda turbos finished 3 races out of a possible 15 (introduced for 1 car at Germany, for two at Austria)
Ford turbos finished 10 races out of a possible 24 (introduced at Spain, 2 DNQs not counted)

No team slots free, sorry, we have reached the maximum entry of 20 teams. You can enter a fictional driver if you want though. There are two free seats left: One at Shadow Ford and one at Ensign.

Hmm, then I'm willing to join the waiting list and in the meantime I'll run the career of the first driver from the Eastern Block - Deyan Rangelov from Bulgaria. Anyone interested in hiring him?

Mass and Surer have already been signed, but pycku gets to decide where Rangelov will go.

Rangelov wishes to thank every team that appreciated him and offered him a contract. However, Rangelov accepts Ensign offer. He was very pleased with the Rostov offer, but he opted for a regular seat for this season. Maybe he will join Rostov in future, but it is too early to say so.

Yes, he can be the official priest for Williams :)

He can drive the italian GP for RAM if he can negotiate a deal with God to become technical director of the team! I'm not really sure if God has knowledge about downforce though, he's usually been seen flying. :lol:

Fuji may have hosted 1979 and 1977, but now it's 1980... ;) Anyway this is alternate F1 so I figured I can have a little creative liscence, and as Suzuka's the better track IMO (and no 70's Fuji exists for rFactor), F1s going to Suzuka :lol:
