No problem.

Williams sign Takuma Sato as their second driver, so the next choice goes to Force1USA.

Warning Long Post.

Staff in GPM2 come in 5 bands per department. Rated: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Average and Trainee. With the better staff being more expensive.
There are 4 departments: Design, Engineering, Mechanics and Commercial. The first 3 are for car development whilst the commercial side is for gaining and maintaining sponsors. The cost I have added by each department is the cost over the season. If you wish to hire/fire staff let me know, it will be easiest if you set a desired cost per department.

Season Preview

Force1USa - Cosworth
1.Jenson Button
2.Segio Perez
TD.Alex Rossi

The Reigning world champion is off to the mysterious Force1USA team, where the American outfit will run a works Cosworth engine.
Button will be joined by Telmex backed rookie Sergio Perez so on the driver and engine front the team is not bad at all, however Button's chances
at defending his title are slim to none!

The technical infrastructure is nearly non existent, however their key staff are not terrible, rated 3 stars out of 5.

Design: 4 (4E) 0.76 Million
Engineering: 4 (4E) 0.223 Million
Mechanics: 7 (7E) 0.298 Million
Commercial: 2 (2E) 0.240 Million

Mercedes
3.Kamui Kobayashi
4.Sakon Yamamoto
TD.TBC

The constructors champions from last season, though it looks like it may be a struggle to match that this season!
Mercedes have gone for a Japanese super team of sorts signing Kobayashi and Yamamoto. Kobayashi had an explosive debut last season but
to be promoted to team leader at Mercedes is a massive step, Sakon Yamamoto has a huge bank balance but does not have the driving talent to match, a curious choice.

Despite the success of BrawnGP they had to downsize rapidly, they begin the season with a skeleton crew.

Design: 7 (7E) 0.905 Million
Engineering: 8 (8E) 0.379 Million
Mechanics: 5 (5E) 0.224 Million
Commercial: 2 (2E) 0.228 Million
All Department heads are rated 3 out of 5.

Red Bull-Rotax
5.Sebastian Vettel
6.Michael Schumacher
TD.Adrian Sutil

One of the most striking driver pairings on the grid with master, pupil comparisons already being made.
Michael Schumacher holds all the records, but it is perhaps Vettel that is the driver to be feared. The Red Bull Renault package
is one to be feared, as any team featuring Adrian Newey should!

Red Bull boast a proffesional highly skilled workforce.

Design: 20 (10E 10VG) 1.82 Million
EngineeringL 10 (10E) 0.459 Million
Mechanics: 11 (10E 1VG) 0.429 Million
Commercial: 11 (10E 1VG) 0.656 Million

All department chiefs rated 5/5.

McLaren-BMW
7.Lewis Hamilton
8.Fellipe Massa
TD.TBC (Default Gary Paffet)

Lewis Hamilton partners a returning from injury Fellipe Massa for what should be an assault on both championships.
McLaren having taken a gamble by ditching Mercedes and running BMW engines, it remains to be seen if this is the right call.

Mclaren feature a large wealth of talented designers and engineers:

Design: 31(10E 10VG 10G 1A) 2.627 Million
Engineering: 48 (10E 10VG 10G 10A 8T) 1.525 Million
Mechanics: 31 (10E 10VG 10G 1A) 0.975 Million
Commercial: 12 (10E 2VG) 0.718 Million

All Department chiefs rated 4.5 out of 5.

Ferrari
9.Timo Glock
10.Jaime Alguersuari
TD.Charles PIc

Ferrari promise to all out attack this season, however there are some question marks over the driver line up.
Timo Glock is an odd choice of leader and Alguersuari only has half a season experience.
Though Ferrari believe they have picked up some hidden gems and with the weight of Marranello behind them should be a serious threat.

Nobody can match the strength of Ferrari's factory as they boost the largest starting staff numbers!

Design: 46 (10E 10VG 10G 10A 6T) 3.446 Million
Engineering: 48 (10E 10VG 10G 10A 8T) 1.525 Million
Mechanics: 44 (10E 10VG 10G 10A 4T) 1.215 Million
Commercial:17 (10E 7VG) 0.938 Million

All department heads 5 stars!

Williams-Renault
11.Heikki Kovalainen
12.Takuma Sato
TD.Giorgio Pantano

Williams have found themselves with Renault Power and a solid pair of drivers to use it.
Though it may not be likely to be a return to the glory days, this is a team not to be underestimated, potential giant slayers.

As the season draws near, the staff are a shadow of what the team once was, the design heads are all rated 3 stars.

Design: 9 (9E) 1.015 Million
Engneers: 5 (5E) 0.257 Million
Mechanics: 9 (9E) 0.362 Million
Commercial: 4 (4E) 0.318 Million

Tsunami-Welsh
14.Fernando Alonso
15.Jacques Villeneuve
TD.Giancarlo Fisichella

Tsunami, the former Renault team, boosts a very interesting and expensive pairing of World Champions Alonso and Villeneuve.
Alonso should feel comfortable here and is a superb leader, Villeneuve is a bigger gamble though should it not work out Fisichella would be more then capable to step in.
With rebadged Ferrari engines behind them they could very well trouble the parent Ferrari team, expect Alonso to get everything from the car.

Tsunami boosts quite a large team with talented department heads all of which are 4 stars.

Design: 28 (10E 10VG 10G) 2.404 Million
Engineering: 21 (10E 10VG 1G) 0.843 Million
Mechanics: 21 (10E 10VG 1G) 0.728 Million
Commercial:6 (6E) 0.432 Million

DSR-Mercedes
16.Mark Webber
17.Nico Rosberg
TD.Karun Chandhok

The former Jordan team is once again rebranded, this time as DSR. However the owners are very much on the right track,
Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg seem to excellent captures for the team, if a little costly. Mercedes have also given them powerful engines
so there is no reason not to expect the team to be consistently in the points.

DSR have a small but dedicated crew at their disposal, all department chiefs are rated 3.5/5 which is a good platform to work from.

Design: 8 (8E) 0.9 Million
Engineering: 9 (9E) 0.375 Million
Mechanics: 9 (9E) 0.360 Million
Commercial: 1 (1E) 0.168 Million

Minardi-Ferrari
18.Robert Kubica
19.Jarno Trulli
TD.Giedo van der Garde

Minardi are back in F1 and by the looks of things mean serious business! Robert Kubica and Jarno Trulli are two excellent drivers and
they have Ferrari backing! This could well be Minardi's best season ever, the only thing holding them back is a pretty basic car to begin with.

Minardi have a very modest technical team with 3 star department heads.

Design: 7 (7E) 0.865 Million
Engineering: 6 (6E) 0.297 Million
Mechanics: 7 (7E) 0.292 Million
Commercial: 4 (4E) 0.318 Million

Rapax-Ferrari
20.Nick Heidfeld
21.Luca Filippi
TD.Davide Valsecchi

Brand new team Rapax appear to have gone for a sensible conservative approach,
choosing Nick Heidfeld as their lead driver for example as frankly there is no safer pair of hands.
Luca Fillipi is a rather inexpensive rookie driver who seems a very solid choice too means the team will have plenty of money to spare.
Rapax have also gone for the tried and tested solid Ferrari engine. This is a team looking for consistency.

Rapax actually boost a decent staff size for a fresh new team with key staff rated at 2.5 out of 5, average.

Design:24 (10E, 10VG, 4G) 2,072 Million
Engineering: 23 (10E, 10VG, 4G) 0.899 Million
Mechanics: 12 (10E, 2VG) 0.459 Million
Commercial: 22 (10E, 10VG, 2G) 1.132 Million

Campos-Toyota
22.Vitaly Petrov
23.Marc Gene
TD.Sebastien Buemi

Founded by Spaniard Adrian Campos, the Campos team have thrown their hat in to the ring, they have decided to make use of Toyota's
engines and have gone for a mix of old and new with the drivers. Vitaly Petrov becomes Russia's first F1 driver and he offers the team
a big sum of money to drive, but he does have talent to go with it! Whilst a real blast from the past, Spanish former Ferrari tester and Minardi man
Marc Gene makes a return to racing. Just being on the grid is victory enough for this team. This team will be ai controlled!

Tristan-Ferrari
24.Rubens Barrichello
25.Nico Hulkenberg
TD.TBC (Default Esteban Gutierrez)

Rising from the collapse of BMW, the Tristan team has appeared in partnership with Sauber. They have hired Rubens Barrichello to help steady the ship
and Nico Hulkenberg seems to be a very promising rookie indeed, whilst a deal to run Ferrari engines looks a good one.
Sauber had a reputation for being a midfield squad, I expect this to continue.

Perhaps surprisingly, Sauber boost a very large team, all dep.heads are 3 stars.

Design: 33 (10E 10VG 10G 3A) 2.701 Million
Engineering: 33 (10E 10VG 10G 3A) 1.118 Million
Mechanics: 30 (10E 10VG 10G) 0.953 Million
Commercial: 9 (9E) 0.576 Million

Virgin-Renault
26.Kimi Raikkonen
27.Pastor Maldonado
TD.Kazuki Nakajima

The small Virgin team produced one of the talking points of the preseason after nabbing Kimi Raikkonen as their lead driver and grabbing works Renault support!
The Finn is one of the fastest drivers on the planet with a massive price tag to match, this also explains the second signing of Pastor Maldonado.
The Venezuelan will offset some of Raikkonens cost and Maldonado himself does have a lot of potential, it is not all about money with him. This team will either
crash and burn or be one of the real surprises of the championship.

The technical infrastructure at Virgin is poor with key staff only rate 1.5 out of 5
Design: 6 (6E) 0.830 Million
Engineering: 6 (6E) 0.299 Million
Mechanics: 6 (6E) 0.259 Million
Commercial: 4 (4E) 0.324 Million

Right, time to spend some cash! Minardi would like to spend £1 million on design staff, looking for some good/ very good people. Same with engineering. £500 000 on mechanics.

A question; how does sponsorship work? Can we gain sponsor through the season which add to our budget? Or are budgets fixed from the start? Also how much did Van Der Garde bring in?

Good Questions.
Van Der Garde would bring in 2.5 million for the season if he was racing. As a test driver he does not bring anything however he has no cost, a test driver would have to be paid for non pay drivers.

Sponsorship works by targeting different brands that will pay different sums depending on their quality and where you place them on the car. This will be explained in further detail soon, I don't want to swamp everyone with information right away.

Not sure if you meant add 1 million/500 thousand to each department or make it up to that figure, under the former staff is now:

Design: 22 (6E 10VG 6G) 1.858 Million
Engineers: 33 (6E 19VG 8G) 1.202 Million
Mechanics: 23 (7E 12VG 4G) 0.752 Millon

Ok, that puts your department costs as:
Design: 1.885 Million
Engineering: 0.823 Million
Mechanics: 0.823 Million
Commercial: 1.2 Million

That is about 4.8 Million + 4.7 Million for drivers so that is just under 10 million in personnel. That is 10 million from your 50 budget and this is before even touching the race car.

Travel expense, cost of car parts, research and development are not considered and they can seriously mount up. You will get a better idea on what you spend after the first race as I will show everyone's updated budgets. There are 16 races so your financial shape after 1 race will be a good indication of how much you should spend/cut back.

Now one key development area will be driver aids:
Image
These are the nine available driver aids, all of which are legal.

To develop a driver aid you set a percentage of your designers, engineers and mechanics time working on it, it is possible to develop multiple driver aids at once

Time is divided between driver aids and working on the car, so it is best to use 100% of driver aid time.

Does listening to a dog licking its balls get you excited?

Minardi will focus 25% on assisted aero, 25% on traction control, 25% ABS and 25% Mass Dampers. £500,000 worth of commercial people will also be hired.

As we are a customer engine team, could we choose to accept Ferrari developments on powertrain components? I.E. can/do we develop our own Turbo?

Tristan GP would like to add five each to the design and engineering staff. We would also like to spend %68 of our time on Double Diffuser and %32 of our time on Turbo.

There is no reason not to use 100%. Using your ratio it is: 40% Turbo, 50% Aerobody 10% DDD.

You can either develop your own turbo, or break in to a team and either trade or steal someone elses. Ferrari can't specifically build you a turbo.

Sponsorship is fairly simple, you divide your time similar to how you develop driver aids. The wealthier the sponsor the more money you get, however they are harder to attract.

Once you have attracted one of the above sponsors you choose where about on the car you wish to place the sponsor: Image

Marlboro are willing to sponsor any team for all 16 races right away. However they only have 5 spots available (Most sponsors offer 5 locations) in total. There are not enough sponsors to fill every spot on a team! Marlboro are the (randomly selected) cheapest sponsor and for the red "most costly" zone offer 1/3rd of a million over the year.

If anyone wishes to take the marlboro sponsorship let me know and tell me where you want the logo's to be placed. Otherwise let me know how much attention you want to focus on a specific sponsor. Again there is no reason not to use 100% of the commercial time.
