The newly christened TH-L Motorsport are interested in funding a second Ford Focus for our team, but any prospective driver would have to cough up at least $620 000 for that to happen? Our preferences would be Richard Marsh and Erkut Kizilirmark but we're open to other offers. The offers to Larkham, Dumbreck and Albers for the first car still stand but we're dropping our offer for Greg Ritter.

There were 73 drivers classified in the 1988 BTCC, and 9 non-classified. 30 isn't really breaking new boundaries here.
But the majority only showed up for one and two rounds. Old BTCC was strange anyway, somebody finished 2nd with only 2 tenth places due to the class system

Yeah 'back in the day' the overall champion often came from the lower classes - Just look at Andy Rouse's sierras in the late '80s; often stupidly quicker than everyone else (apart from Steve Soper/Rob Gravett) yet struggled to win the championship from the top class.

I hate title sponsors, so no team's named after sponsors please. In fact I'd like to stay away from full renamings of teams. Things like TH-Larkham are okay though.
Unless every team deposits £25,000 each in Tech-Speed's account within the next 24 Hours, Andy Neate will be driving in the BTCC this season. For the entire season. I would recommend you cough up the cash from somewhere, otherwise you may meet a very unpleasant end.
He is coming to get you. Pay up before it's too late.

In contrast to many of the other teams, Proton would be very happy to have Neate on the BTCC grid in 2004, as it increases the number of drivers we may be able to beat. We therefore refuse to give Tech-Speed their protection money.

You will regret this when the Cosa Nostra turn up at your door! We expect our pizzo and we expect it now.

Does this mean that Neate is now your first choice?

Has offers from Team Dynamics, Tech-Speed and Edenbridge, all of which require him to come up with £800,000. ARKAS are willing to back him. Team Dynamics has the best car out of the three so is the team of preference for Erkut. However there is also the Turkish Touring Car Championship back home in Turkey where he'd more than likely be a front runner.
Has a 100K offer from Edenbridge. Mike has been considering a return to the BTCC but he'd also like to try and win the British GT first.
1-60 Sign with Edenbridge 61-100 Stay in British GT
16 Jordan signs with Edenbridge, he'll also bring with him £150,000 from John Guest.
Tim Coronel
Has offers from John Batchelor and Tech-Speed. The former doesn't require him to pay but Tim is also concerned about driving for a man who legally changed his name to 'John B&Q'.
1-40 JBR 41-80 Tech-Speed 81-100 Continue racing in the Netherlands
83 Coronel is scared off by John B&Q and will remain in his homeland.
Gordon Shedden
2003 SEAT Cupra Cup UK runner up looking to make the move up to the BTCC. Tech-Speed will give him a drive provided he can come up with £800,000. The Scottish Sun will support him for 500K so he needs to find the rest himself.
1-60 Finds the money 61-100 Fails and hopes that Tech-Speed will take him for the 500K instead.
90 Shedden couldn't come up with the money and will look elsewhere with the money he does have.
Oh COME ON. Bachelor you t***, ruining my plans like that. Coronel would have been a great third driver for us! And now look what you did. Just for that, your team owes us protection money, or we will destroy all your equipment with a Homebase-purchased sledgehammer.
Novitopoli wrote:Everytime someone orders at Pizza Hut, an Italian dies.
Has offers to stay with JBR for free or move to TH-Larkham for 620K. He has the money for the latter and its a potentially better team, though that's not saying much.
1-70 JBR 71-100 TH-L
29 Marsh will stick with John 'Andrea Moda' Batchelor.
Mark Larkham
Has somehow been convinced to invest into TH Motorsport despite being on the opposite side to the world. However he has retired from full time driving in the V8 Supercars after last season and may be interested in trying British racing out for one final year of racing, provided of course that he can still race at Bathurst one last time.
1-50 Britain 51-100 Australia
36 Mark Larkham makes the surprise decision to move to Britain for one last season of racing.
Forgot to give Erkut the choice of TH-Larkham.
Erkut Kizilimak
1-50 Buy 2nd TH-Larkham drive with ARKAS money. 51-100 Stay in Turkey.
87 Erkut will stay in Turkey after all.
Honorary Northerner are you interested in any other drivers for the 3rd Dynamics seat? If so then I'll provide a list of interested drivers and their sponsorship money.
Sorry Pastor, you are too late to make more offers for this group.
Motorsport News wrote:Tech-Speed predicting best ever season
Tech-Speed Motorsport are predicting a breakout season in 2004, with new cars and new drivers brought in for the upcoming season. With three brand new drivers and three newly purchased chassis, new team principal Alexander Lindsay is ecstatic about the year ahead.
"This will be a great season for us," he said. "We have the same cars VX Racing used to win the championship last year, plus another third car that's a little bit older but still top notch machinery. It gives us a very good base to work from."
"It also gives me great pleasure to say that we have a twice BTCC champion driving for us. Alain Menu is nothing less than a touring car legend, and to secure a driver of his calibre for a non-works team is simply amazing. With this car and driver combination, I think we can really go places."
"Gavin Smith is also a talented young lad, and it will be really interesting to see how he progresses over the year. He made the switch from single seaters to tin-tops last season really well, and I think he's got potential to do well here. John Geroge, yes, we can't pretend money was not a decision, but he is EERC Endurance champion, so he is a proven winner. It's still early days in his touring car career, and with some more miles under his belt he can get properly stuck in."
The Astra Coupe and Alain Menu combination is certainly an intriguing one. Can he really mount a title challenge for a small indie team though? With George's financial credentials added to Menu's driving credentials, it might well just happen.

pasta_maldonado wrote:Can B&Q sponsor John Batchlor racing? And we will use number 00
For the reason of preventing people from just claiming that a company will sponsor them for several millions the team's will just stick to their real-life counterpart's sponsors and I'll base the annual sponsor revenues from those. The exception being if a driver happens to bring a sponsor with them.

I guess this means Tech-Speed will be sponsored by JAG Communications this year then...that and Thurlby Vauxhall. Picked the right car I guess.

FloProAct wrote:I think John Batchelor fielding a Peugeot 406 Coupe for Richard Marsh may well be the worst Team/Car/Driver combination in BTCC history...
EDIT: I've just realised that for two rounds in 2004 Batchelor put Marsh in a 307 so I take back this statement.
That actually turned out better than Marsh in a Honda Civic for the rest of the rounds. The Civic looked suspiciously like the one they used in the production cup the year before to me, which would explain why they were always something like 8 seconds off the pace!

Yuji Ide or Sakon Yamamoto with a shed load of Honda cash? André Couto with Macau backers? I'm looking for £800,000 to £1,000,000 plus.
If none signs then I'll stick with what I got.

Interesting. £1,000,000 and the drive is Couto's.
If not we'll offer it to Hines for £800,000
Then Leason, Doble, Stockton and Shedden. If none of those 6 bites then we'll stick to 2 cars and get this show on the road!
