Round of Italy - Race 2ProspecGreenlaw wasn't much quicker today, and this time Souto Maior didn't blow up for him to take the win. Cameron couldn't even get into the top 10.
AeroracingYesterday it was misfortune that took victory away from Souto Maior and handed it to Greenlaw. This time misfortune took victory away from Melville and handed it to Souto Maior, who comfortably won from Greenlaw and Davies. Pacer took 20th, a bit conservative today.
JonesMore bad luck for Swerts, a suspension failure taking a potential fourth place away from him on the penultimate lap. On the plus side, Roberto Dinella
finally pulled his finger out and took a fine 7th place finish to get off his duck.
West CliffJordan Davies had a quiet race, tailing Greenlaw for most of the time but unable to make a pass stick, still taking a solid podium. Port had a much more eventful day on his way to a last place finish. On lap 3, he was punted off the road by Soares at Rettifilo, but it was his own fault, having moved back across on Soares once he realised he wasn't going to pass Taki. He also caused a really big accident on the final lap. Tyler Buckley had a horrible run out of Ascari, and approaching Parabolica he drew level. As he turned in, his rear stepped out, and in correcting it he made contact with Buckley, launching the Gulf into a barrel roll. Again, the gravel trap didn't to its job, and Port hit the fence. He managed to limp to the finish line, then immediately parked the car. The fault was entirely his though, as there were yellow flags out at the time for McAllister's stopped car, and Port therefore made a pass under yellows.
TakagiDespite his awesome qualifying effort, Naufal was never going to score points, he simply wasn't good enough. He still managed to hold 11th thanks to problems ahead, so it was still a good day, but considering that, of the cars that started ahead of him, Swerts, Melville, Jantscher, Hannesson and Verbeeck all had problems, he should have scored at least one point. Tetsuya managed to make a fair bit of ground to end up in the top 20 as well.
OctanBainomugisha retired late in the race with an engine failure, but Lamberigts proved yesterday was a once, scoring 3 points in the weakest car on the grid, and very nearly snatching 5th from Desai at the death.
Porto WineSoares' part in the incident with Port was largely restricted to innocent bystander, but afterwards he seemed to back off a bit. Mondlane made a lot of grounf to get inside the top 20, finishing 6 seconds up the road from Soares.
KingfisherKingfisher had the biggest fail of the race, on lap 8. Brooks was defending from Davidson, when he moved across under braking for Ascari. There was contact and both cars went spinning way off, and had no time to make any place afterwards.
ZombieKartA quiet race for both cars, Walsh managing to score another point while Hershall retired from the top 20 on lap 8 when his gearbox seized up at Rettifilo.
Parma CorseA double DNF in their special livery, Lucarelli's suspension failing on lap 3 while Hannesson's Lancia went bang on lap 7, bringing an end to a potential point-scoring result.
ZimSportMelville should have won this race but unreliability problems cost him, a throttle problem on lap 6 forcing him into the pits. He was far enough ahead to still finish 13th. Zimmer had another early DNF, after spinning off at Parabolica his engine developed an oil leak.
FusionOnce again Jantscher's race was ruined early, a hit from Nurmester on lap 2 forcing him to wait for the field to go by. Enough drivers ahead failed to give him a top 20, ahead of Stefan Kuntz, who very nearly lost his spot to a Dofasco at the finish...
Gulf JCWThe Gulf cars seem to have a bad way of handling the Parabolica. Both cars had moments at the Parabolica at the same instant, Buckley sliding and Davidson spinning. A lap later Buckley went way off the track. Davidson parked there with a puncture on lap 7, and then there was Buckley's huge accident after hitting Port that saw him fly across the gravel trap, which will cost Dave a fair bit of money to fix.
Best In The WorldVerbeeck's race was ruined early when he moved across on and made contact with Travesen on lap 2 at Ascari, spearing off into the gravel trap and losing a lot of time. Half a lap later he collided with his teammate, although that was McAllister's fault for launching a dive from way too far back. McAllister later retired on the final lap, within sight of the finish line, having driven most of the lap with smoke pouring out of his engine.
Good CallPiscine's poor race came to an end when his rear suspension collapsed on lap 3, while Yorke had a fairly strong race to finish 12th.
Linton-SolindahlIt wasn't Travesen's fault he ended up in the gravel trap, but it was when he got beached trying to recover and couldn't get out again, becoming the first retirement of the race. Reatherson couldn't score any points, not able to catch Walsh or drop Fukuda in the final laps.
DofascoLike Kingfisher, both cars came together at Ascari, this time on lap 1, and with only car spinning, Samelko, after being chopped by Maylander. Maylander would later retire, like McAllister within sight of the finishing line, with an electrical problem.
Red BullWhen the BITWMs collided at Rettifilo, Taki was on the outside, and did a very good job of avoiding them. Unfortunately, a good run came to an end in the pit lane with a smoking engine. Dale Hamilton didn't have a good race at all - he seemed almost allergic to the racing line at the Parabolica, as he failed at getting it right every single time. And still managed to finish 15th...
HydookNeither car did anything of note, both cars finishing not far outside the top 20.
JLDMelrose was actually decent for once. While he was never going to win, he did a good job of staying in the points, gaining from Swerts and Melville's cars failing. Fukuda also did a good job, inside the top 10.
KamahaWhen Nurmester hit Jantscher on lap 2, it was because he locked his brakes, and a spin was inevitable, dropping him well down the order, and way off the back of the track and unable to make any gains. Desai was better, scoring her first major points in a while in 5th.
ShonanHarmsky had difficulties with Ascari all race, mostly becuase of everyone behind him forcing him off there almost every lap, preventing him from making any ground. This included Sokolov, who took a fine top 20 finish.
