MRT Announce Indianapolis Plans

Earlier today, Melrose Racing Team became the first F1RWRS team to formally announce their intention to enter the season-ending Bud Light World 800 at the end of the season. As per tradition for MRT, their lineup will consist of a mixture of both experience and youth as incumbent Phillippe Nicolas has been entered alongside Jason Hamilton and Alessandro Marchesi. Interestingly though, MRT are yet to confirm whether their latest signing Mark Dagnall will participate in the event, leaving it up to father and manager Chris Dagnall to decide on the matter.

"The Bud 800 has always been a great opportunity for us to compare our top young guns under our control with our F1RWRS drivers and this year is no exception." said MRT owner Daniel Melrose at the press-conference held just days before the Dutch Grand Prix. "This year, our two young gun entries will be Jason Hamilton and Alessandro Marchesi, both of whom have impressed in their respective categories this year. Phillippe Nicolas will also be entered as either our lead or second entry, depending on what Mark Dagnall and his father Chris want to do for this event." Neither Dagnalls were available for comment but if Mark does enter the event, it'll be the first time he'd return to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway since his enormous first lap crash back in the 2013 edition of the race.

Well if there is a grid cap then I demand a rules change! There are enough F1RWRS teams as it is trying to get into races, we don't need EVEN MORE people failing to qualify!

Pretty sure that isn't true, I remember it filling up within 24 hours and thinking "christ, this nonsense again? Bloody hell". So no, it isn't. Much like the RTCC, I turned up 12 hours after the thread was created and the series I was originally in got bloody full without me! So, yeah, no, not gonna have you pawning off the blame on me!

JASON, KIBBUTZ TO RACE FOR AERORACING AT 800

Aeroracing Engineering have just confirmed that neither official driver will participate with the team for the non-championship Bud 800, to be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The drivers Phoenix McAllister has selected for this duty are instead Tanner Jason, fresh from finishing in 4th place at the F2RWRS Monza round in what is understood to be his last F2RWRS appearance for some time, and Brucie Kibbutz, who drives for Aeroracing in the ROLFS series.

About his choice of Jason and Kibbutz, McAllister explained: "Since this is a non-championship round, I want to give them [Jason and Kibbutz] the chance to drive an F1RWRS machine, and I hope they'll be competitive".

"Tanner has a lot of potential in the races as you could see at Monza last week but he just needs to work on his qualifying pace. Brucie meanwhile has done a very good job at ROLFS in what is an average car, winning a feature race".

Tanner Jason has expressed his excitement about this chance "because it's my home race and I am very eager to repay Phoenix's faith by scoring a mega result and making my fans happy".

Brucie Kibbutz declared that "that's how we roll, baby, number one, I'm going to show these idiots who's the leader, genetically different, YES!!!!" when queried about the chance and his prospects for the race.

Also, Simpson Motorsports will enter two cars for the Indy 800, though the drivers have not been confirmed yet. Current F1RWRS drivers Mitchell Macklin and Saeed Al Faisal, team boss Dave Simpson and Indy Car driver/Simpson F2RWRS driver Dave Anderson are the drivers in the running for the two seats.

Gauthier, Fighting Mongooses bids bought out
The question of which team will replace DGNgineering for 2016 seems to be resolving itself quickly. Today, Guillaume Gauthier announced that his bid had been bought out by a mystery investor, soon after Jimmy McJimmerson of The Fighting Mongooses announced a similar thing. Whether or not these buyouts are from the same person is unknown at this point, but it seems likely given that both bosses will be attending a presss conference to be held after the North Sea GP.

Van der Maeyede given a chance in Indy 800
It seems Mr.Alexander has seen a bright future for F2 driver Martin van der Maeyede, as he has been selected to take one of the Kingfisher seats for the non-championship Indy 800. The one stumbling block will be Martin's lack of a superlicense, although Kingfisher are hoping for a special dispensation. "Martin proved in the first half of 2015 that he had he pace to compete at the front in F3, and since his switch to our F2 team, has again proved he has the pace to compete for regular points if we could qualify. We know he doesn't have a superlicense but are asking the commission for a 'special' licence to see him compete. We know he has the pace, so I don't think there will be too many problems in obtaining one."
It seems a good performance by Martin may see him take a seat with Kingfisher for 2016. Martin has already expressed his happiness with Kingfisher and has made it clear he wants to remain with the team for 2016. "Hea a nice lad with a high amount of potential", said Mr.Alexander. "But we don't want to rush him. To go from F3 to F2 in one season is tough on any driver, but he has adapted well. But to go into F1 so soon may see his performances suffer. But hopefully the 800 will show his early potential and we can make a decision after that."

Since it's a non-championship race, one technically doesn't need a reject license to compete. Just ask Damon Cannon, who somehow qualified for one this year through sheer dumb luck alone thanks to his result in the second non-championship race last year.

He's still in good standing at Simpson, despite a 'nightmare' last few races for the entire F2RWRS team. It's just that Anderson has Indy Car experience that would be very helpful at Indianapolis.

Actually, I'll add Cameron to the potential line-up - he could get to race if one of the regular drivers decide not to race in the 800, given that Anderson will probably race for Mecha if they enter (he is their test driver, and is managed by FMecha) and Dave Simpson would only race if he couldn't hire anyone else (as he's not a huge fan of ovals).

Scuderia Alitalia have entered two cars for the end-of-season F1RWRS Indy 800, but have so fair failed to name any drivers for the non-championship event. Young hotshots Andrej Kremnicy and Bastiaan van Nieuwenhuijzen are widely tipped to secure a place, but there are also rumours circulating that recent IndyCar champion Salvatore Miccoli might get his first taste of F1RWRS machinery at the long-distance race. There are rumours too that Ron Mignolet might make the switch from ArrowTech to Alitalia sooner than expected. It is expected however that Ben Fleet will have returned to parent team Foxdale by this point in the year.

This news about Ben Fleet is very close to the truth.

And Foxdale have an interest in entering the 800 as well, even though they haven't seen any official confirmation of the sign-up process yet. Martin McFry seems certain to race, while Douglas Mann and Ben Fleet are both pestering their sister/girlfriend Pippa Mann for a seat as well.

Jones sets post-season plans out

In the wake of other teams announcing their line-ups for the upcoming F1RWRS non-championship races of 2015, Sammy Jones has declared that his team will run four cars for the Bud 800 race, where traditionally his team has excelled, with former test driver Jack Christopherson having won the Dan Wheldon Cup for the last two years. This year, Jones has revealed that his four car team will consist of main drivers Rhys Davies and Rosco Vantini, with a third car for F2RWRS driver Terry Hawkin, and the final slot filled by Jones himself, in what he describes as a "final farewell to the sport".

For the second race in Finland, where teams are likely to enter just two cars, Jones stated that in that event he would run Davies and Vantini.

Acuri Autosport to return at Budweiser 800
A press conference has come out today that Andrea Acuri will run a team which will take the old name of the team which ran in the 2014 season in the non-championship Budweiser 800. The team will run three cars using what will be the old ArrowTech AT-05, which is currently being used for the 2015 season. Acuri himself has already ruled himself out for racing in the 800, saying that his best racing days are "finished." It's highly rumoured that Ron Mignolet will be signed to one of the seats - other considerations circulated around the media are James Davies, Rhys Davies, Phillippe Nicolas, and Kay Lon. Acuri has said that he would like to sign a big name in the series to the team for the Budweiser 800.

RACE

It's funny to see how things change in F1RWRS from one week to another. All of a sudden Rhys Davies decided to abandon MRT to start his adventure with Jones early (in a critical moment where he's fighting the championship) in the quest for extra reliability; and in his first race for the team neither him or Vantini managed to finish the race, while MRT secured an impressive 1-2, lead by Mark Dagnall, who decided to leave DGN as Chris Dagnall interest is turning into Formula One quickly and decided to bring Nicolas Steele as an interim driver while giving Hansuke Shioya extra miles in the car. Not that the Japanese made the most of his chance (or yes he did as a few acid observer pointed out) when he went off track 5 laps into the race only to find Rhys Davies sitting in the gravel trap, waiting to rejoin the track; both drivers had to abandon the race and Davies gained a visit to the hospital. But back to the championship fight, Dagnall saw a golden opportunity to drive a better car than the DGN is and won the race not after fighting with Nicolas and making a few overtakes in the beggining of the race, and in the end left Zandvoort with a very serious chance of winning this championship. Meanwhile, Vantini suffered a weird case of unrelaibility from the Jones car; not that the 6th place he was running for was too meaningful in an uninspired weekend for the italian; result ROTR for Jones. Fair and square.
The podium was completed by the impressive Mirko Bosevic; he's been pretty much in & out all season, but when he's in, the croatian drives really fast and took advantage of Arrowtech's adaptation to slower tracks. Daniel Martins also drove a great race to places we never thought he wuld be able to reach in the Sunshine. The car has been pretty inconsistent but the Portuguese drove very well; Aurelien Moll had yet another of his anonymous performances, only this time fast enough to make the points, 6th ended Barii Mori after having to stop on first lap in yet another good performance by the Japanese, who share DOTR award with Jean Luc Schiller; the swiss driver was driving the Tropico to its absolute limit and he was on the verge of a podium place when the Tropico stopped yet once again; the car has speed, but it should be better taken care of in reliability terms. Also kudos to Saeed Al Faisal, who was able to qualify the Simpson for the very first time, and to Du Lei, who raised eyebrows by making it to the first row and then kept the car into the points until it stopped.
Nobody else did have a really bad weekend except for Aeroracing; the problems stroke back badly and both drivers had to retire.
