This Vettel stuff;

I think in 2012 he earned his wins more than in the previous seasons, it isnt his fault if Ferrari lost the plot towards the end of the season (or rather that their luck ran out).

Yeah he says daft things from time to time, stick the word 'fricking' into his quotes and its not too far from some of the cringe-worthy stuff Hamilton on occasion spouts.

He only does the finger now because it pisses people off I reckon. Getting annoyed with it is giving him another victory!

Lastly, the arrogance; sorry, not seen any of it in any balanced interview he's given. In fact, compared to some drivers I can recall from the distant past and not so distant, I find him quite unassuming and down to earth. He reminds me of Damon Hill sometimes in the way he's earnest about his and the teams achievements and quietly pleased too.

Can I point out that I am not a Vettel fan. At. All. And his dominance of the sport in the last three season drove me to distraction.

Any chance we can now take it as read that some folk think all the above is nonsense and Vettel is a blah blah wanky bockwurst or whatever. Why not use your energy for following the guys at the back of the grid, supporting them and generally watching what they do.

Y'know. Like we're supposed to....

Daniil Move really annoys me, he has been in FR3.5 for ages without really showing much real talent. It's not that he is terrible, he is just meh. I am sure there are others doing the same thing but none of them come to mind atm.

It really annoys me when people say the back end of an F1 car is in a 'coke bottle' shape. It looks nothing of the sort! :x

I really don't like the back end of F1 cars these days. The coke bottle has been around for ages, but with the flap before the wheel arch it masked it. The way the side pod goes to nothing really looks horrible to me.

I disagree. The back-end is the best-looking part. You get to see many weird and wonderful thi gs moving about when the car is in motion.

It's certainly the area where the most development effort seems to be directed towards these days now that the teams are using the exhaust plume to modify the airflow at the rear of the car, so you're seeing more variety in terms of design work in that area compared to the rest of the car.

Either Rosberg or Hamilton has to drop the yellow helmet design. I can already here the reporters: "And Hamilton just overtook *whoever Mercedes is able to overtake*. Oh, no I think it's Rosberg. I'm not sure. Is it Rosberg? No, it is Hamilton."

Yes, I'm asking myself if all the exposed parts at the back don't disturb the aero? I mean the air passes the sidepods and then has to find a way between the suspension, gearbox and all the other bits back there.

This forum used to be so great, now it's just became a sad shadow of what it was. Whenever I log on I wonder what shitstorm has happened now as there is sort of a group of people here that can't seem to accept any different opinions. Not to mention the massive hypocrisy regarding people liking or disliking several drivers. Yet I doubt that anyone will notice until it's too late and the forum is almost dead.

This has been a problem for a while but imo it got a lot worse after Zyla went on hos attention whoring rant

I dont thinks its as black and white as different opinions causing shitstorms its the language that sometimes employed. However way you look at it, comparing a guy to cancer is wrong and ridiculous and its irrelevant who your favourite driver is. Jeez, even if Di Resta replaced your favourite driver (who happened to be your brother) you should still find Wankerovs comments offensive.

Where the forum is going wrong, in my opinion only, is that people are causing offense, seeing the offense its causing but continuing to cause that offense because 'its my opinion'. As if pulling the offensive language from their comments is an attack on their human rights or something. Do me a favour  .

I agree that that comment from Svenko was too far but it is far from the only time such a thing has happened. In fact there are two forum members that have said similar things a lot of times, thankfully neither of them have been on recently

No, dear friend, I was not implying that that or any other comment was better or worse. I apologise for not listing every offensive post but Id hoped the general gist of my post would make it obvious that theres no need for any of it.

Perhaps your response its a good example of how quickly things are polarised on this forum. You're either on one side or another.

Scary.

My point was that according to a large percentage of this forum hating on Bruno Senna or Sebastien Vettel is completely acceptable but people turn against you if you say something negative about any other driver.

You seem very keen to press the issue Eurobrun, which is especially interesting seeing as 12 months ago it was you going round slagging off Grosjean and then Bottas. If you have an issue with someone then PM them about it. Whining about it here will get you nowhere, especially when you just moan about the forum and how it was so much better "in the old days". If anything, doing that just makes the situation worse, you're just stirring up trouble, and provoking those that enjoy that sort of behaviour.

I agree that I was wrong on constantly hating on GRSJN and sometimes Bottas without giving proper justification in the past. My intention wasn't to stir up trouble, I was just trying to point out the double standard that I see. I will never understand why hate is encouraged with some drivers but condemned with others

You're creating a problem that isn't there. There is a certain section of people on the forum that are keen to defend or vilify drivers until the end of time, and by discussing this perceived "problem", all you do is engineer a situation where those nasty comments about drivers can thrive. You're effectively opening up an invitation for those members to defend themselves, and so the whole process starts over. The best thing to do is let it lie, and let the people who want to get their knickers in a twist about it do so, and it will all blow over once they've tired themselves out over arguing.

Having unintentionally helped spark some of this controversy off, I feel that first of all I should step in to offer an apology - thinking about things in the cold light of day rather than in the murkiness of the red mist of frustration, maybe I have not been as even handed as I have thought that I have been over the comments of some members, both in the past and the present.

Secondly, much as I appreciate that there are those figures, both past and present, that evoke extreme passions on both sides, I would urge all members to remember why many of us chose to come here - because of a love for motorsport and a fascination of those who battle on for the glory of victories (both small victories, like those who battle at the back for a point, to those fighting for the title at the front), sometimes in vain but occasionally rising to transform the sport.

Sadly, I have seen quite a few communities being driven apart by acrimonious bickering and would hate to see the same happen here - I hope that the recent problems we have been going through recently prove to be little more than a transitory phase.

To be honest, I'm at a loss as to why this discussion has been formed, or why mario is apologizing for not being even-handed when as far as I can tell he's done nothing wrong.

This is the deal: if someone crosses the line, just let him/her be. Don't try to argue, don't answer, just leave the offending poster alone. That's what moderators are for: it's our job to tell the guy to relax, not yours.

It was in part towards those who perhaps feel that I've been a bit lax in terms of moderation, particularly given the somewhat more acrimonious tone that has been cropping up from time to time.

eurobrun, if you are feeling quite frustrated, is there anything that you would like to take up with me via the PM function if you feel that it might help?
