In other news, Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed has finally released for PC... and MY GOD IT IS THE BEST KART GAME EVER. Seriously, I have not had this much fun with a racing game for years.

Yeah, I finally got a stable internet connection (even though I had to learn that my PC's network card had died over the last months of not being used) and that means my PS3 is ready to go: aside from Heavy Rain I have everything I want in games and am going to have fun for the rest of the night.

Speaking of Heavy Rain, I found a video of a hilarious glitch right at the end of the game where the main character (I assume) is just shouting Shaun over and over, even when he's not in the scene anymore. This is at the end of the game though, so yeah, spoilers.

Mostly through sheer dumb luck, I've managed to acquire a copy of both Omerta and Tropico 4 Gold Edition today. I'll let you guys know what the former is like later on but if the demo's anything to go by, it should be a really good game.

If Tropico 4 goes well, you could start a thread about the Mad El Presidente's exploits running the country when he isn't busy racing.

Thanks to Amazon.co.uk also delivering to Germany, I finally got my hands on Football Manager 2013. And boy, that's quite a challenging game. So, does anyone have some advice for me? Especially with regards to tactics, since I seem to screw them up quite a bit. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Considering i'm one of the football experts of this forum, i'm terrible at Football Manager. That's why I didn't get 2013, I knew i'd rage too much.
My only achievement was getting to the knockout stages of the Europa League on FM12 by beating Shamrock Rovers in the qualifying, and going through with AZ in the groups, knocking out Roma and APOEL in the process. I then lost to PSG in the last 32.

Race 07 has Formula 3000 included in the 'base' content (along with WTCC, Mini Challenge, Caterhams and Radicals) and is very cheap on Steam, if you just get the base game without any of the DLC.

As far as footy managers go,I have had my ChampMan 07 game with Liverpool going quite good.First season got runner-up in the Premier League and League cup winners, then got a quadruple the next.Shame the game crashes after that certain season. Right now,I'm starting a new game with Nottingham Forest purely for shires and giggles, though I am starting to get slightly seriously involved in it.

I haven't bought FM since the 2011 edition, but damn, I built a sweet team as Inter manager. I sold off/released all the dead wood (Julio Cesar, Castellazzi, Orlandoni, Chivu, Lucio, Samuel, Jonathan, Stankovic, Mariga, Pazzini, Suazo) and totally rebuilt the squad.
So, I stopped having a crap team, and decided to be awesome instead;
GK Manuel Neuer, Emiliano Viviano Juan Pablo Carrizo, Cristiano Lupatelli, Simone David (a 19yo regen who looks like he'll be boss eventually)
DF Davide Santon, Maicon, Javier Zanetti, Mateo Musacchio, Mats Hummels, Andrea Ranocchia, Raphaël Varane, Sebastien Bassong, Ivan Cordoba, Luca Caldirola,
MF Matias Ezequiel Schelotto (Serie A MVP in his debut season with Inter), Esteban Cambiasso, Fernando Gago, Thiago Motta, Mahamadou Diarra, Marouane Fellaini, Park Ji-Sung, Ibrahim Affelay, Dirk Kuyt, Wesley Sneijder, Coutinho
FW Luis Suarez, Fernando Llorente, Diego Milito, Giuseppe Rossi, Mattia Desto, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Salvatore Foti
I play a very attacking style of football. Not Zeman attacking, but still, quite risky and aggressive. But in Suarez, Milito, Rossi and Llorente I have the firepower to make it work. And Musacchio-Hummels is an incredible CB pairing, to the point that Ranocchia and Varane hardly get any game time. Maicon didn't decline in FM like he did in real life, so I still instruct him to attack down the wing and he has countless assists as a result. He was league MVP the season before Schelotto was. I play a 4-2-3-1 so the formation usually looks something like this;
Neuer
Maicon Musacchio Hummels Santon
Motta Cambiasso
Schelotto Sneijder Suarez
Milito
Usually Santon doesn't attack as much as Maicon and is instructed to counterattack only. Cambiasso covers Motta who acts as a DLP for the rest of the team. Sneijder is the trequartista and moves wherever he likes. Suarez acts as an inside forward which means he scores as often as he assists. Schelotto is strange one, because despite instructing him to stick to the wing, he scored more than 10 goals in his first season. And Milito, well...he's simply a goal machine. 18 goals in 19 appearances so far this season. Thanks to an injury lay-off last season he only managed 17 appearances last season and still scored 15 times. Incredible. Every team needs a stirker like him. Rossi and Llorente have been sitting twiddling their thumbs on the bench because it turns out, Milito didn't hit a decline at all as I'd expected.
In two and a half seasons, I have 2x Serie A titles, 1x Coppa Italia, 1x Supercoppa Italia, 1x Champions League, 1x Europa League, 2x European Supercups, 1x Club World Cup. Not a bad record I think!

Football Manager - a game that is so great but completely unplayable for casual players. If only they could fix their "What's the matter? 2deep4u?" attitude towards new players and offer something like an in-game tutorial instead of forcing you to learn how to be a proper professional soccer manager in the first place.

Don't lose faith just yet. My first three-four months in the Inter job were an absolute nightmare, I was losing most of the time, got knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage despite them being reigning champions from the previous season, got knocked out of the Coppa Italia at the very first round by Palermo, lost the Supercoppa Italia to AC Milan at the very start of the season - it was so bad that Mr Moratti came close to firing me. But after reshuffling the team significantly in the January transfer window to bring in players that fitted my system better, the team couldn't stop winning and I charged up from midfield in the Serie A table to win the title by 5 points, and won the Europa League title after losing my CL place earlier on.

To be fair, Diego was missing due to injury, and my best defender Jores Okore (Which I bought from Nordsjaelland) was suspended after picking up a red card against Dortmund. Not to mention the superb offensive power of Bayern. Speaking of Dortmund, I would have almost won against them, but the referee kept screwing me. One goal wasn't awarded due to offside. Then the afromentioned red card against Okore.
Oddly enough, Wolfsburg also keeps losing money. Despite being owned by Volkswagen.

Are you talking about Diego Benaglio, the goalie and one of the best players at Wolfsburg, or the washed up old Brazilian playmaker? Because I thought the latter had moved to La Liga

EDIT: And now Wolfsburg has sacked me. I kept losing match after match, but I feel that the team didn't really bother to play some good football anyway. Other than that, FM13 is pretty hard, even in classic mode.

I think I'll wait for GT6 (or equivalent exclusive racing sim) to be released before upgrading to a PS4, hopefully by then the price has come down a fair bit - it'll most likely be quite expensive at launch. Though, I have to admit the one racing game that was shown, DriveClub, looks rather impressive, especially in terms of graphics and it seems like a PlayStation version of Project Gotham Racing, with similar social features to recent Forza games.
One thing that I found quite strange about the unveiling of the PS4 was that they never showed the console during the presentation - Sony's probably leaving that a surprise for E3 (hopefully along with some footage of GT6).

Re: The "You're Winner!" Gaming Thread
Gaming is dead.
Why does it need Facebook, Youtube, and a bloody share button? One reason I stopped playing Dirt 3 (besides the idoicy of Gymkahna) was the game being like "oh you logged on? Put it on Youtube! Dude you picked a car? Youtube it! You finished in 5th? Youtube that shite!" Are we that sad as a society that we have to post our non-exisant achievements to the internet? I don't post videos of me racing my REAL race car, why would I post one of me doing it in a fake car? Why social profiles? My friends know who I am, thats why they're my friends. Any people creeping on me online don't need to know shite about me. Its like the weridos who friend request you after one online game, the get pissy when you say no. Grow up. There's no need for it to be online only. I'd never be able to take it racing with me.
And what games exactly are there going to be? Will it play games? Because to me it seems like Sony has just built a computer. Which is fine, I like computers. But if I want a computer I'll buy one. I want a console, not a gaming PC. And really the "gaming" is clearly second thought on this thing. The trailers shown could easily be run on the PS3. Hell theres a rumor online that the Killzone trailer WAS on a PS3! And the random touchpad on the controller? Uhhhh ok, that wasn't an after thought or anything. And can it play used games? Yes or no? One person says yes, 5 say no, yadda yadda yadda. No backwards compatibility or PSN, because god forbid we carry something over. Sony's stock tumble today makes me think I'm right on all this.
But I'll say it again, Gaming is Dead. Atari, 3DO, and Sega have already perished, and it looks like Nintendo is on its way. The Wii U was a joke and never taken seriously (this from a Nintendo fanboi who has had every Nintendo system ever made up to the U including the bloody Virtual Boy) and it shows. The sales numbers for the first 2 1/2 months of the Wii U are less than just the first months figures of the Wii. Way less. Way Way less. Nintendo could realistically go handheld only in 5-6 years. Sony had a shot with the PS4, but nope, Myspace is more important for whatever reason. So God help us all Microsoft is now the last hope for gaming? Really? And considering the Xbox 720 is supposed to feature cell phone style contracts, we're doomed. Hopefully that new Android based system will actually work, but I'm skeptical of anything on Kickstarter. Meh, gaming has past my generation by I guess. Guess this another hobby I'll drop (admittedly my interest has been waning) So it Goes.

That's a big rant.

Whilst I can somewhat agree on the rest of your rant, you're being melodramatic there. People tend to forget that the Wii had a record-breaking first month. Expecting the Wii U to top (or even come close to) those numbers is the kind of delusion of grandeur only CEO's and other leading managers are capable of. Not to mention that the Nintendo DS and Wii have printed so much money that Nintendo can probably afford ten failing console projects before they have to manage a success. There will be a eight- and ninth-generation console by Nintendo and there will be Mario and Zelda titles released for it. The only thing that could stop that would be Third Impact (... tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down ...).

Re: The "You're Winner!" Gaming Thread
I wrote a 5000-character article about it in my native language, but I have to say this is TRULY the next generation. There are two things that makes me worried:
1 - the used games' business might be entirely killed. That is sad. Who's poor can't afford new games every month. (Hell, I can't even afford a PS3, let alone new games for it!)
2 - the online services might be subscription-based, however, this is something acceptable, if the possibilites are maximalized. Not getting your PS3 rewards into PS4 is disappointing though.

Maybe, but remember that people said the same thing about Sega. The Genesis made a TON of money, then came the Saturn, and by the Dreamcast, which admittedly sold fairly well near the end (although only today is it being fully appreciated) Sega was dead. Also remember that the Wii U is the first console Nintendo's losing money on (Sony and Microsoft always sold systems at a loss, Nintendo never did) and remeber that the Xbox 360 which is 8 years old, is out selling the WII U! And Nintendo took a beating on th 3DS........
I hope I'm wrong, but I can realistically see Nintendo go the way of Sega (games only) by 2020.

I guess you are emphasising why "social gaming" gimmick(ery) is BS, right?
Social media isn't a gimmick by itself. It just has its place. I have Facebook, but why should I have to create a new Facebook type thing just to play Mass Effect or Gran Turismo? They're two totally different things. Some people may like it sure, and thats fine, but make it optional. Why do I have to be online 24/7 with it? Why can't I just play a match or two without checking friends or email? Will it make games better? And does anyone really want to see screenshots/video of some random dude playing a game? I doubt it. As I said, I currently take my PS3 (and sometimes still my PS2 and N64) with me in my motorhome when I race. If its online only, that's gone. A lot of my buddies hunt. Their cabins don't have internet. I just don't see it. But I guess I'm getting old. Get off my lawn!

The Playstation CEO said that used games should be ok. So, that's one worry gone.
I partly agree with Wallio, I don't want to have to log in to 1000 different things just to play stuff. The game world is a different one to the real world; please, keep them separate. I don't have any interest in telling people what I'm playing, because it doesn't aid the game in any way. It's just really unnecessary.

I was going to refute you, but if you want to run around like Chicken Little, be my guest. I'll just keep playing games on my PC as if nothing had ever changed. Because, you know, PC gaming is still totally a thing that exists.

This is true, PC gaming was around before consoles, and no doubt will be around after them, although I've never much been into PC gaming for whatever reason (none in particular, although I find USB controllers are generally clunky). I of course had Duke Nukem 3D and DOOM/DOOM II and the first 3 SimCities but after that only Starcraft and NHL 2002 ever really held my interest. Although Automation may very well change that.
I don't know how old you are, but I do think its an age thing. At the risk of generalizations, no one I know from my age bracket (admittedly not a huge number) play PC games. We were too invested in the console wars to care about PCs. On the playgrounds you had the Atari "hangers-on" versus the Nintendo crowd, then Nintendo vs. Sega (still the most viseral hatred ever) then Nintendo vs Sony, now Sony vs Microsoft. I've had 16 systems in my life (21 if you count handhelds) versus 5 computers. And i bought each of those computers for a purpose, none of which was gaming, although again DOOM kinda took over when it came out lol. I think my age group just veiws computers as tools, not toys. That being said, I may take PC gaming on some level if this is what consoles are coming too.......
