Cameron calls for longer pre-qualifying

Prospec boss Gary Cameron made his loudest call yet for an overhaul the F1RWRS pre-qualifying system after watching his team record their third consecutive DNPQ of the season at the Japanese Grand Prix. "It's ridiculous really," said Cameron, "we get 15 minutes for 18 cars to go out and do a representative lap with slow guys and muppets getting in the way all over the place and no time to recover from even the smallest mistake. It reduces it to a lottery which isn't fair on the guys back at the factory and the guys at the circuit who work really hard and do a great job only to get sent home on Friday morning. F1RWRS should be about the best drivers in the best cars doing the best job they can and getting their rewards, but pre-qualifying as it is rewards mediocrity and blind luck."

When asked how he would resolve the problem, Cameron replied, "Simple - it's too f***ing short! Extend it to 45 minutes, give everybody the chance to get a couple of runs in, and then maybe we might see the people who do the best job reaping the rewards, instead of who has the most luck."

Jones backs Cameron's calls for Pre-Qualifying overhaul

Sammy Jones has publicly backed Prospec team owner Gary Cameron's calls for an overhaul of the pre-qualifying system for the F1RWRS. Whilst Jones' Castrol Jones Racing team haven't had to contend pre-qualifying since early 2013, the recently retired former driver believes the session is far too short and is choking some of the better teams in the paddock.

"It's an absolute disgrace", blasted Jones, "look at the teams that we have in pre-qualifying at the moment, top teams like Gillet, HRT and Prospec, all of which have long, distinguished histories in the championship and which are now being threatened by a lottery of a system where the only factor in determining those who pass into the main qualifying session is luck. The sessions need to be longer to allow those teams who actually do a decent job of competing to be allowed to have a proper chance of making the race on Sunday. At the moment any clown can turn up with two cars and expect to clear pre-qualifying at some point during the year - look at Autodynamics for crying out loud a crap Finnish pay driver and Damon Cannon who has been sat on his arse for two years. Why the hell they're allowed to go through and then to no-one's surprise rack up a double DNQ when Prospec, Gillet, HRT and others are forced to sit out is beyond me. It's no surprise the future of these well-loved teams is in doubt when they couldn't even buy their way into main qualifying if they wanted to. The Commission needs to pull their heads out of the sand and make some changes for next year, otherwise they might as well just pull names out of a hat to decide who goes through."

Kingfisher Racing spent every session last year in pre-qualifying when the team was formerly known as Mitie Aviation, but feels a little unsympathetic towards Prospec. "It's true the pre-qualifying session is a little bit of a lottery these days, but that enables smaller teams like Autodynamics and Dofasco to have their moment in the sun. My argument against Prospec is to not have a car that is stuck in pre-qualifying in the first place! Sammy Jones also says top teams like HRT and Gillet shouldn't be in pre-qualifying. But surely these are not 'top teams' if they're not good enough to escape falling into the pre-qualifying session in the first place. Build a good car with a good engine and you'll have no problems."

It was a tale of two stories for us in qualifying. Pippa was stellar as always and planted the car on the front row but Stig seems to still have issues with the car when it rains. We must help him get over that, and we'll work hard before the race with him to help him get a set-up that enables him to claw his way up the field, even more so since heavy rain is expected for tomorrow. The circuit has a long straight that should suit our engine well, but with the inclement wather it won't matter as much. Our priority is to score as many points as possible to overhaul DGN for third in the Constructors Championship, so here's hoping the car will last the distance and our drivers will be on top form as they've often been this season! And congratulations to Mark Dagnall for his pole position, it must feel great after the struggles he had with qualifying this year. Lastly, about those claims asking for prequalifying to be extended in time, I have nothing against it, but word to the wise: when we had to attend prequalifying at San Marino we still managed to clear it without problems just because our car was way superior to the other contenders. The same goes for DGN at the Austrian GP. That Gillet failed to make it through is an absolute shocker.

Damon, given that our pre-qualifying misfortunes are not down to bad luck but mostly Fredo deciding to only work on Saturdays and Sundays, Gary calling for a change in pre-qualifying regulations is a simple distraction tactic. Just ignore him.

The Fox: Pre-Qualifying is OK
After numerous teams have complained about the lack of time in he Pre-Qualifying session, ArrowTech leader The Fox has defended the F1RWRS executives in the decision. "We can't have people going around in Pre-Q for an hour, it would simply be impractical. Instead, maybe two sessions of fifteen minutes each would do better. Also, giving the excuse "we were stuck behind backmarkers" doesn't cut it either."

Fifth is good, it's a good place to be at the start. Definitely a good chance for a podium. I'm still looming for drives for 2016, with Dagnall's team moving to F1, so far, nobody's called back.

Gauthier against pre-qualifying change
Following the recent calls from Gary Cameron and Sammy Jones for an overhaul of the pre-qualifying system in F1RWRS, Guillaume Gauthier, whose team will be joining the grid in 2016 and therefore going through pre-qualifying, has come out as being against such a change.

"Frankly, to me, it seems like Mr. Cameron and Mr. Jones are just deciding to have a bit of a whine," the Frenchman stated, "The way I see it, is that 15 minutes is plenty of time to get two cars out and have each do one clean, flying lap. Yes, there will be traffic. There is no denying this. It is therefore up to the teams to pinpoint the optimal time to send a car out. If Gary Cameron is unable to do this, then that is entirely his problem. Boxtel, Revolution, and Autodynamics did not have this problem, and that is why they were in qualifying. It is true that it was very likely that Autodynamics would fail to qualify, and that perhaps Prospec would not have had such difficulty. This does not remove the burden on them to beat Autodynamics in pre-qualifying; you may have a better car, but you must still perform your best to ensure that you do not fail to pre-qualify, and Prospec did not do this."

"As for Mr. Jones' comments, well, I could not disagree more with him. History counts for precisely nothing in motorsport. Many teams rise and fall over the years, and just because a team was once great does not mean that it should not have keep proving it deserves to be on the grid like everyone else. If Prospec, HRT, and Gillet are unable to keep up with the times and keep producing competitive racecars, then again, it is their problem and no-one else's. Because if we just hand over the pre-qualifying seats to teams based on their glorious past as opposed to their competitiveness now, then you deny the opportunity for a team such as Revolution to perform as brilliantly as they have in qualifying [in Japan]. If F1RWRS is to continue growing, it must continually allow new blood into the sport, both in terms of drivers, and in teams. Making exceptions with the purpose of allowing more historic teams to have an easier time is counter-productive to this."

Gauthier-Mongooses Racing would be interested in signing Nicolas Steele, provided that we do not secure the services of Jesus Plaza.

HRT team principal John Zimmer has tady agreed with fellow principals Gary Cameron and Sammy Jones, who have called for Friday morning pre-qualifying sessions to be longer. "It's ridiculous that we get 15 minutes to try to do a lap," said Zimmer. "Yeah, sure, it gives the real backmarkers like Autodynamics and Simpson a chance at qualifying, but if they've both proven that making the race is a much more difficult proposition. I've saw teams like Alitalia celebrate when Autodynamics got through, because it meant there was no way they were going to DNQ." When asked whether he was trying to find a way to benefit HRT, Zimmer said "Well it's pointless this year, isn't it? We're not going to show up in Brasilia, so it doesn't matter about changes until next season, where hopefully we'll come out with a more competitive car.

Why the hell eez everybody moaning about ze pre-qualifying? They are only moaning because they cannot 'andle the fact zat they are shite now. You cannot expect to be at the front all the time. Perhaps the teams should look within themselves to actually sort out their own problems instead of blaming ze prequalifying. There is a reason why they are there now, and this is because they are managing themselves badly. Besides, this prequalifying gives everyone a chance. If you don't want to be in it, take measures to prevent it in future.

Or as usual you're just interpreting something that isn't actually there...DNQing both cars after making it past PreQ is always funny, it happened to Simpson and I laughed at them, it happened to Alitalia and I took it on the chin. I qualified only once in the whole of 2014 and you don't see me complaining...

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about! Along with my first F1 win and first world title, this has to be one of the best days of my racing career. This year has been an absolute rollercoaster for MRT this year which has ranged from the good with Rhys at the start of the year, the bad with the tragic loss of Nobushige, and the plain ugly with out falling out with that cretin Davies. But through all that, we've come through and won both titles this weekend and I can't ask for much more than that. Mark did a fantastic job this weekend with one of the most dominating drives I've seen in a long time and while Phillippe struggled with car balance this weekend, he has been a solid operator throughout the year with vital results that helped our constructors' campaign. It's been a long time coming, having worked with the same bunch of highly talented people behind the scenes since day 1 back in 2010, but through the highs and lows, it was all worth it in the end. Well done guys. And Nobushige, these titles are for you, my friend.
