Mitch Evans is only a year older than me, as he was born on 24 June 1994. GP3 drivers Robert Visoiu and Patrick Kujala are even younger than me.

Oh shiiit, I didn't realise Evans was younger than me...
I'm 19. And I feel old.

For the sake of New Zealand and all the beautiful kiwi girls I hope Mitch Evans will do well in GP2! I already posted last summer he is the one to seriously watch! Screw the da Costa bandwagon, I'm rolling on the Mitch Evans bandwagon all the way!
Talking about the Finns: I don't expect Kujala or Vainio to ever reach F1. Kujala has an outside shot since he is only 17 (or turning 17) so he has still some time on his side. However, his results in Junior categories have been less than stellar. Vainio, whose a year older than said Mitch Evans, is starting his 3rd year in GP3 so he has made not too apparent progression. Plus, as far as I know both of them aren't particularly well sponsored to boot.
So where is the next Finn god dammit! Hugo Häkkinen anyone?
Other great prospects. in WSR this season.

That's a pretty strong lineup, it has to be said. I guess that Mercedes and the rest of Bird's backers had a little bit more money than Frijns for the seat...
EDIT: It's also been suggested that Berthon and Ceccon will take the Trident seats, and Hilmer will opt for a Daly-Varhaug lineup.

It seems Caterham are trying for the worst driver line up in both GP2 and F1. Neither Ma Qinqhua or Sergio Canamasas have ever won a single seater race in there careers but here they are driving in arguably the 2nd highest level in single seat racing.
I mean I know money talks but I see 0 passion for actual racing in this team and this season is just going to be a giant waste of time for Caterham. I could be completely wrong here but with a team like Minardi I got the feeling they were passionate racing fans doing there best on a shoe string budget, with Caterham I just see a team trying to extort as much money as possible from useless paydrivers and generally just going through the motions. The EA of racing?
Will it be possible to watch the GP2 races on NBCSN? And will they be live or presented similar to how Speed did the replays?

Things I was wrong about: Kimi to Ferrari, Perez out of McLaren, Maldonado to Lotus, Kobash comes back, Gutierrez stays, Chilton stays, Boullier leaves Lotus.

I've just seen footage of it and my god that was a disgraceful piece of driving from Cecotto. The fact he only got his fastest time taken away as a result is probably one of the most farcical stewards decisions I have ever seen.
EDIT: Turns out I can't read and Cecotto has been sent to the back of the grid. But even that doesn't seen like enough to me.

Bird blocked Cecotto (apparently), in return Cecotto ran Bird off the road.

Evidently Reverend Maldolan has been spending the off-season giving advice to Cecotto...

What the heck? Why would you do that? I mean, yeah, if you think the guy blocked you, all power to you - but then you show him the middle finger while passing him or something like that and don't pull a stunt like this. My brain just tries its best to make sense of that action but it fails at doing so.
What a knob. Really, thats just petty behaviour, little more than you'd expect from a child in all honesty. I'm with Wizzie as well, he should be banend
I'd kick him out of GP2 for the whole season for that.

This is a poor poor excuse. "Oh, so I screwed up, and I'm sorry, but look, what the other guy did was worse and he could have killed me!"
Ridiculous...

I don't think the Bird impeding Cecotto has been on TV so can't comment on that, but Cecotto's behaviour was outrageous and fortunately was seen by everyone.
Should have been disqualified from the whole weekend at least, especially as he has had a number of incidents before in GP2.
Interesting grid, hope it is a clean race. Can't understand why Palmer is so far back though....

Opening few laps of the feature race done, Ericsson crashed out lap 1 for DAMS. The two MP cars crashed in to each other and Ceccotto went from last to 13th on the first lap.
Many drive through penalties for overtaking under yellow flags.
Will Buxton and Jerome d'Ambrosio make an awesome team.

Agreed, he isn't going to be in the top 4-5 at the end of the season but not 22nd given his experience and he has won in GP2 last season (plus Carlin are a decent team). A good drive in the race from him though!
Mitch Evans looks like a good prospect. He has been quick, has made some good overtaking moves and he is about to take a podium in the sprint race. Not bad from a guy who has been suffering from food poisoning!
Yeah, having just watched the race on YouTube, Evans was very impressive. Coletti drove a great race as well after his flying start - from 6th on the grid to the lead coming out of Turn 2. My other main observations are that Will Buxton has a serious soft spot for Felipe Nasr, and Jerome d'Ambrosio deserves to be some sort of cult hero for his bizarrely comic commentary style.

I do find the commentary team for GP2 really interesting, normally you get in a former racing driver to explain what's going on and why drivers do certain things but Will Buxton is no idiot and knows enough to make the former driver part of the role rather redundant. Instead Jerome chips in with really sharp sarcastic humor whilst working to verify things Buxton says and make sure Will does not get too excited.
To me it is a perfect commentary team and both of them really are a credit to GP2.

- amazing how he did the two drives of the weekend, 22nd to points in feature race, pit-lane start to 9th in sprint race.
What the heck happened to Marcus Ericsson?! I remember watching him live in 2007 in FBMW and 2008 in British F3, and he looked the class of the field back then. But now he's in his fourth season of GP2 and is still pretty much in no mans land. I don't know how to explain that...

Some say GP2 car is very different from F3/F1 category cars and certain types of drivers never nail them, and llok worse than they should because of that. I don't know how close to truth that theory is but we've had drivers like Kobayashi and now Bianchi who look significantly worse in GP2 than eventually in the top level...
