Dreaming F1 races
Have any of you ever had dreams about completely imaginary F1 races?
I ask as I had one this morning. I don't remember all of the details, but it must have been a race somewhere in Asia as it was in the middle of the night and I was very annoyed with myself because I had overslept and missed it. I think I may even have been surprised to learn there had been a race on that night. Anyway, in the dream I went to the BBC Sport website to find out what had happened in the race, and there was a picture of Jenson Button in his Brawn GP gear, standing in parc ferme, arms aloft in triumph, with the headline "Button takes eighth win of the year" above, or something similar.
It was after Button had clinched the title, I definitely had that impression, but I was still surprised he'd managed to win a race again. The report I dreamed made it sound quite exciting - he "chased down" the two Jordan cars which had been running 1st and 2nd until the final few laps of the race, after they had started 2nd and 3rd on the grid behind Giancarlo Fisichella in a Sauber.
Shame I missed it, even in a dream, as it sounds quite good! So, have any of you guys ever dreamed a race? What sort of stuff did your subconscious make up?

Re: Dreaming F1 races
My subconscious F1 races were so bizarre they had Erin Crocker (and if anyone doesn't know who she is, look her up) winning the inaugural "Prussian GP" in a "Sauber Dodge" (decked out in an awesome red and black colorscheme) after an epic battle with Kamui Kobayashi in a car that changed colorschemes every time I 'saw' it and Sebastien Bourdais's car from 2006 in third...
For whatever reason, Al Unser, Jr.'s Galmer from 1992 was in the field as well. There were also two "Hendrick Chevrolet" cars starting at the back being driven by Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, though I seem to remember Johnson causing Christijan Albers in a Midland to barrel roll at three different points in the race and Jeff Gordon rocketing through the field... I remember one car being disqualified for "hacking".
...keep in mind that this dream occurred with me asleep in my chair and the audio from one of the GPs that Speed broadcasted playing over my headphones...

Re: Dreaming F1 races
I had a dream in march/april ish of 2001 about a race at the 'new' hockenhem - at which time the changes had been announced but not made yet. My dream-version of the new layout was correct, though on a much smaller scale - the new hairpin at the bottom looked a bit like the island haipin at Oulton park, for those that know it.
However, the side-effects of some medication I was on that time included an occasional confusion of dreams and genuine memories, so it wasn't until the German GP actually happened that year that I realised the changes to the circuit hadn't actually been made yet.

I coined the term "Lewisteria". The irony is that I actually quite like Lewis Hamilton.

Re: Dreaming F1 races
Yeah, all the time, but usually I'm competing in them
For example, in Silverstone 2010 Paul Stoddart has bought back STR and named it Minardi again. The car is unfortunately utter crap so I only manage 23rd on the grid. But I push like hell at the start and in in the first lap alone I jump all the way up to 7th
This is followed by an insane overtake at Copse with a similar outcome to this against Bertrand Baguette's Renault, followed by me getting pissed at Schumi's blocking tactics and ramming him off the road at Stowe. Another insane move, this time around the outside of Kobayashi's Sauber at Bridge and 4th appears to be the best I can do. Until it starts to rain like hell with 9 laps remaining. Hamilton and Button collide with each other thus promoting me to second, and pushing like hell on the last lap I pass Alonso for the lead similarly to this.

Re: Dreaming F1 races
More tha imaginary races, I have my own imaginary championship with 40 cars (including some reject teams like Larrousse, Coloni, Zakspeed and Dallara, and classics like Lotus, Ligier and Jordan), no pre-qualifying, dream circuits like Nordschleife, Zandvoort, Suzuka...and reject drivers in competent teams (Giovanna Amati driving for Lotus for instance), but also real drivers. The cars are turbocharged and Honda is very competitive suplying engines to McLaren, with Porsche supplying to Lotus and Williams. With Ferrari they form the frontrunners.

Re: Dreaming F1 races
I've had quite a few of these. The most memorable of these - the one I had prior to the British Grand Prix this year - you've probably read before, but it might not count for this because the grid was identical to the grid established that day in qualifying.
The most recent F1 race dream I had entailed a race at a circuit which was completely round, except for a pair of short straights and a heavily-banked hairpin (the latter being the first corner of the circuit). Cue predictable first-corner pile-up, involving someone in a white car (moving too quickly for me to identify which team or driver) going up said banking, vaulting the (oddly low) barrier and landing in the car park. At which point the driver dusted himself down and decided to drive home in his F1 car instead of returning to the pits for a debrief...
About half the field made the restart... ...whereupon the driver's team-mate (by this point I could see it was the BMW team) repeated the trick all by himself, landed in the same place as his team-mate, got a towrope out of the boot of his car and used the F1 car to tow his road car home. It has to be said that Mario Theissen was looking slightly scary by this point...
The second re-start, which was an hour later due to a higher barrier being erected at the hairpin, was won by a Ferrari followed by another BMW. Nobody could work out why until the driver removed his plain white helmet at the end of the race. It turned out that one of the Ferrari testers had "borrowed" the spare chassis while everyone else was waiting for the re-start, bolted some Ferrari bits to make it a running vehicle with the help of some Ferrari mechanics (plus a few BMW drivers who were completely frustrated with their regular drivers) and sneaked onto the back of the grid without anyone noticing...

Whereas the dream does.
It's his own little joke.
He even said it to Clarkson.

I once had a rather confusing dream of a Canadian GP where Mazda had entered an all-female team using the classic RENOWN green-and-orange livery, and Susie Stoddart and Danica Patrick took a dominant 1-2 in the team's first ever race. And then stuff happened on the podium with champagne and undone race suits that can't possibly be repeated.

Re: Dreaming F1 races
Once I had a dream in which I was driving for Minardi and - I don't remember this exactly, because it was a long time ago - there was an Italian GP coming up that I had to drive in and for some reason I was driving TO the circuit, on public roads, in the F1 car. I spent some time at a nice lady's house, I seem to remember she cooked for me, and I also seem to remember being late and having to hurry up to get to the circuit in time, but I don't remember whether that was because I stayed at that lady's place for too long or not, nor can I remember whether I was driving the F1 car because I had to hurry or if I was already driving it. Sadly, I woke up before I got to the circuit, so I can't tell you how the race went.
And nowadays I sometimes imagine myself driving and even winning races in a pink/purple and white car, but I can never recall these races or whom I drive against, sadly.
I suppose now with the return of Michael Schumacher I'll have more F1-related dreams. Once I dreamt (dreamed?) that he had died and he recieved a state funeral in a transparent coffin in his red Ferrari race suit. I remember it making me very sad and being very relieved upon waking up that it had only been a dream. Strangely enough, I also dreamed of Felipe Massa dying once, which gave me scary memories when he crashed in Hungary this year, as I already posted in the other thread. As you can see Ferrari is quite close to me emotionally. <3

Let's see...
Danica Patrick (okay, she doesn't want to drive in F1 so technically she doesn't count)
Sarah Fisher
Milka Duno
Katherine Legge
Susie Stoddart
Simona De Silvestro
Natacha Gachnang
Karline Stala
Shirley van der Lof
Vanina Ickx
Hmmm... that's 10, which is half of 20. Maybe someone else can think of any more female drivers?
Edit: Oh, oh, María de Villota! That makes 11.

Re: Dreaming F1 races
A slightly less intriguing one I had was where Ravenwest Motorsport (for those of you who play Race Driver: GRID) had entered McKane and Scott under cars #00 and #13. They weren't allowed to score championship points in the race, and were immune from penalities so they became the obstacles the other drivers had to negotiate. And one of the races they were in was at Monza where Kovalainen and Rosberg were working together to take down one of them, playing essentially Pong with McKane, knocking him back and forth between them before Rosberg and Kovalainen braked early for one of the chicanes, and sent the RW car into the gravel.

Re: Dreaming F1 races
I had a Can-Am / F1 crossover dream:
I was driving a "werks" Porsche 917/10 that was specially improved with 4 intermediate ramjets and ground effects. The others competition were driving random F1 turbo cars and the 92 Williamses. The first race was held in what looked like Mosport Park, but Murray Walker kept calling it "Albertson's Candyland'. I dominated, lapping every other car at least once every 3 laps, and had an average lap speed of Mach 4.3 (there was a Frank Williams type man with a radar gun type device measuring my speed, and he kept calling it out) , and obviously coming in first. The 92 Williamses and the Ferrari 156/85 came 2nd (apparently all three had the same exact time). I then won in the Targa Florio and in Spa, both of which were apparently on the Can-Am calendar, and connected to each other. The Frank Williams, who apparently was my team boss (I guess Enzo Ferrari and Ferdinand Piech were the bosses of the other teams?) told me that I had to get pole at Interlagos, or Gordon Murray (I guess he was the head of the Stewards Committee) would ban the ramjets. He also told me that the drivers group had started asking questions about "Mr Puddlifoote", and I would soon have to face questions about the legality of my ramjet system. I took pole at Interlagos, which was actually Watkins Glen, but I was black flagged as I led the race. Frank Williams gave me the first place trophy, but told me I had to face the Stewards Committee. The hearing composed of a Murray Walker - looking person telling me they knew how my ramjet system worked, and that they had seen under the diffuser of the car. It apparently worked by "transferring" the turbo-lag from my car to Mr Puddlifoote's car (my teammate). He said that inspite of my best efforts, Mr Puddlifoote had beaten my lap times at the "Monaco test", and that I had clearly tried to invoke the "hyper sonic shock", even though I was not really qualified to be team leader. The only alternative was to beat Mr Puddlifoote in equal cars at Kyalami, or face suspension from the sport. Kyalami, which now took place in the Himalayas (which apparently lined the outskirts of Johannesburg) was going well until I tried to overtake Mr Puddlifoote, and flipped over. Frank Williams told me that I had to develop a new ramjet system that worked under avalanche conditions, or I would never be accepted as having won "The Great Turbomonde" in equal cars....Then everything faded to blue.

And off we go. BTW: am I the only one who thinks that a Formula Venus (or some BS like that) could've marketing potential? I mean, it would be far better and more valuable than the Superleauge Formula.
Maybe it does, but I'm opposed to it because there's no reason to market female and male racing drivers separately. They can race against each other, so why would you have a separate series? Though I suppose the drivers themselves could think it would be fun.
MOTOR RACING IS DANGEROUS

The surname of she who finished 8th is amusing, while she who finished 2nd I believe was the sister of Ralph Firman...

Correct. I remember watching that series and she was definitely Ralph's sister - you could see the family resemblance as well. She later went on to do some endurance racing, but I don't know if she still does.

Most sports segregate men and women though - though I suppose motorsport is different to football or golf or something in that they'd both be driving cars of similar ability.
Better than 'Tour in a suit case' Takagi.

Yeah, and in football, they use footballs of similar ability, most golf clubs have similar abilities, all shuttlecocks and tennis racquets have similar abilities...
