Just cleaned up the Tassie Racing page a bit; added a nice new logo there too.

Re: Another wiki!

Post by DemocalypseNow »

I have been thinking once again about the much needed redesign for the wiki front page. The main problem is resolution - what looks good on one person's screen, may look horrible on another. Mediawiki makes the page container fluid width, but AFAIK there is no way to make individual elements (i.e. tables) fluid width. This is quite a big flaw with MediaWiki, imo its biggest flaw. Whenever I look at the wiki at University, where I'm often on screens that are 2560x1440 in resolution, it looks horrible, with a gaping white space down the middle of the homepage. But as soon as I switch to a 4:3 screen, it also looks horrible, as with not enough width for tables to be displayed side by side, everything gets awkwardly stacked.

I guess my point here is - is my assumption about fixed width in MediaWiki incorrect, and there actually is a way to code fluid width tables in wiki markup language? Or does MediaWiki allow for HTML that would facilitiate fluid width tables?

Fluid width tables aren't that difficult to code, the question is, can you edit the html code on MediaWiki?

Much HTML code I've tried in the past in MediaWiki hasn't worked, but I understand certain HTML elements are valid. Which of these I'm not sure of.

I'd imagine it's only the extremely basic elements you can edit in MediaWiki tbh

Making tables and the like in MediaWiki aren't that hard, but the main question should be what it should look like. I think there's a few too many series for the TMPedia main page layout to be ideal.

Honestly, I think what's there is fine, but it's begging to be reorganized and reordered a little bit.

Hey guys,

I need some advice on how to structrure my team and it's many fingers in pies on the wiki. I could end up with one extremely long page, lots of small pages, or something inbetween.

The basic structure of the team is as follows;

IL BARONE RAMPANTE
The overall group responsible for all ventures in all canon series (and some non-canon!). Think of it as an umbrella where everything is contained within it.
Or is it? Because the Life GP team operated as only "Il Barone Rampante" and is historically linked to both Merzario GP and the real Il Barone Rampante.

SCUDERIA ALITALIA
The main team under the IBR group. F1RWRS, F2RWRS, formerly F3RWRS (2014) and Rejects of LFS (2014), F1RDS, Rallycross, GTRWC

Now, watch it get really tricky...

PARMA CORSE
Now defunct. Previously F3RWRS in 2015 only.

MASTERCARD LANCIA
Now defunct. Previously Rejects of LFS in 2015 only.

MASTERCARD LOLA
IndyCar team 2015 & 2016.

LAVEZZI IBR
2016 F3RWRS, IFRC & SARS.

ALSTOM GPE
2001 Prost GP as a totally seperate entity to Il Barone Rampante. Merged with IBR in 2002 to form Alstom IBR CART team.

MARTINI LANCIA RACING
2015/16 Super Touring Cup Team.

MARTINI NISSAN RACING
Works Nissan 1998 RTCC Team.

IBR ALSTOM ALFA ROMEO
Works Alfa Romeo 2015 & 2016 RTCC Team.

MERZARIO
1979 onwards rFAF1 team. Essentially the Genesis of IBR.

*Non-Canon*
SCUDERIA ALITALIA
REECCS...with Carsten Jancker, who is canon! Oh lawd...

SCUDERIA ALITALIA ANDREA COLONI
F1RMGP Team...which is 50% owned by Il Barone Rampante. Even though it isn't canon. Whut?

MARTINI RACING
Warped Touring Cars series...with Frederic-Maxime Voeckler and Alessandro Lucarelli, who are canon! Christ, what have I done?!

As you can see, this is a total bloody mess. How do I split up all this information in a clear and consice manner?!

I'd say merge Parma Corse, Mastercard Lancia, and Mastercard Lola into the history of the Lavezzi page, while the Martini Lancia Racing, Martini Nissan Racing, and IBR Alfa Romeo could be merged to form some bastard lovechild of a omnipresent Touring Car conglomerate. As for the rest, I'd say leave it as it is for now.

I think I might split into three main sections then;

Il Barone Rampante (organisation)
Scuderia Alitalia
Il Barone Rampante (constructor)

IBR (constructor) is essentially "Lavezzi" but without any sponsorship attached to it. Because every time "Lavezzi IBR" enters a series, the constructor name is "Il Barone Rampante". Whereas with Scuderia Alitalia, the constructor name is actually "Alitalia". So, if someday I were to end the IBR-Alitalia relationship in favour of a new sponsor, the Scuderia Alitalia page would rename to the new constructor name. Or something.

And the wiki is down, conveniently enough when I was editing some of my Prost GP-related pages and probably have to do everything again. :| The problem seems to affect Shoutwiki as a whole, because it's impossible to connect to their main page either.

Wiki undergoing maintenance

Post by ryangregg12345 »

Hello I want to report a big problem with the wiki. ShoutWiki has been undergoing a maintenance since yesterday morning and I'm getting irritated since I can't access it.

I think it's affecting everybody.

I was bored and got down on virtual paper the idea I've had for ta revamp of the wiki front page.

The old design simply wont do anymore, now we've got a canon system in place for virtual series, it feels wrong that F1, F2, and F3RWRS get a lovely big box at the top of the page while all the other canon championships are at the bottom of the page.

Here's what I've come up with

Thoughts, opinions, and constructive criticism are all welcomed. Also, it is not a final, polished idea, and my wiki formatting may not be the best, but hopefully it's enough to express my ideas.

And for the eagle eyed EFR guys (hey that rhymes...) I did kinda get the idea from Cynon's TM Wiki.

I'm starting to not like having the GTR banner in the calendar page and your test page being this deep red. (and no, I don't have a colour suggestion) I am imaging that there will be another series graph-overview-thing for non-modern canon and non-canon series. Otherwise, perhaps have the year by year overview in the centre rather than the left, and it looks good ta me! :D

I'll be honest and say I don't like it. Full width does not look nice. But it's tricky to format a wiki in a manner that's not ugly because of the limitations presented by the markup languague.

I have been pondering for a very long time now how to do it. And I still haven't come up with a concrete idea, something that is concise in its display of information but also makes both current and previous seasons easily accessible. A lot of my times I have to abandon my ideas because MediaWiki simply doesn't support it.

What exactly would you do with the Portal pages? And for the 2016 F1RICS season row, black backgrounds never really worked for anybody. The rest of the background colours looks good though. The formatting for the "Did you Know" Column is wrong, though - Do I have your permission to fix it up?

Yes, anybody has my permission to change things. Any errors on the page are down to my limited knowledge of wiki ormatting.

As for the portal pages, it would work like the portal pages on wikipedia - with links to all past seasons, selected articles, an overview of the next event, a list of categories, etc :)

Thanks even I though ask for someone to help with the Multiple Series race template, cause I am only going to try and create articles when the F2RWRS and F3RWRS are both at the same place. Much like GP2 and GP3. So you will see this template at

Australian Grand Prix
British Grand Prix
Italian Grand Prix
German Grand Prix
North Sea Grand Prix ?
Belgian Grand Prix ?
Japanese Grand Prix

? meaning I have no clue on the spilt weeks even they are at the same venue.
