I'm supposed to be good at maths, but after having an absolute shocker of a Mechanics M1 exam last month, I'm not so sure anymore. Why did I take Maths as an A-level?

Which is what I was thinking, pasta!

In fact, I came up with my username because my family was a bunch of hooligans who were fans of the famous Ferrari No. 2 driver Rubens Barrichello and we always chanted "Go Rubens!" when he was in contention for a win or was in a Williams crapbox.

Doing Maths for A-Level was a huge regret of mine. And I had a shocker with M1 too.

Doing Maths for A-Level was a huge regret of mine. And I had a shocker with M1 too.

Its compulsory until Leaving Cert here, which suits me down to the ground as I'm unreal at it

Just out of curiosity, how much flexibility do you have with regards to the modules that you can take? I assume that it would be C1 to C4, M1 and S1 that you are doing (assuming that the course has not changed too much in recent years). From what I can recall, oddly I found that I had a slightly worse mark in M1 than I did in my M2 module (I found the M2 module a little more intuitive as it was, in some ways, closer to what you might do in Physics).

Not directed at me, but I did C1-4, M1 and S1 at A-Level. The people who did Further Maths at my Sixth Form did something called "Decision 1", and I was never really sure what that module entailed. Anyway, I'm not sure how interchangeable the non-Core maths modules are; I don't know if it's possible to do, say, both M1 and M2 for the standard A-Level Maths...

I ended up getting a B in the end...which is alright, I guess, but I still had to go through "clearing" to pick up a place at university. Not the easiest thing to do when you're on holiday in France with no internet. :lol:

I'm already dreading the notion that I'll have to go through clearing next month, or even have to stay on for another year at sixth form.

Sounds like the fairly common mixture of modules then. I'm sure, though, that your results in the C3 and C4 units will be fine and that you'll pull through (I assume that you did well at AS level?).

Sounds like the fairly common mixture of modules then. I'm sure, though, that your results in the C3 and C4 units will be fine and that you'll pull through (I assume that you did well at AS level?).

The thing is, I'm not too confident with how the C3 and C4 exams went last month. They were better than M1, but they weren't brilliant exams. I'm currently on a low C for AS Maths, but I retook C1 and C2 in May, and I felt those exams went well (C1 was lovely), so hopefully I might have a high C/low B for AS come August.

My other A2 subjects, English Language and Politics, I'm pretty much at the grades I need, and I felt the exams I did for those subjects last month went very well. If only this was the case with Maths.

At least the UEA is understood to be quite lenient when it comes to letting people in, and much fewer people have applied to university this year, so I should get in barring some major disaster with my results.
