Man, I thought Bourdais had a shot to win. Not a bad race from him. I like seeing him do well.

The only chance of Bourdais is to put Dixon in the wall.

I just closed the streaming when Dixon overtakes Bourdais. I don't see what happened for Power finishing so low.

Also, I see this today: Sato is on probation. WTF!?

Well, his collision with Hunter-Reay back at Pocono was kind of ridiculous...

What happened with Power was Franchitti left just enough space for Power to have a go at 3rd on the last lap, Power clipped Franchitti and the wall and wound up in the tyre wall.

Briscoe's out for the second race with a wrist injury, and has been replaced by Indy 500 hero Carlos Munoz. As much of a tough break it is for Ryan, I'm very okay with this development

Here's to a good/ entertaining second race today, I'm enjoying Steve Matchett as guest commentator, his use of F1 terminology in an indycar race seems a little out of place though (e.g. Safety Car instead of Pace Car).

Looks like they're going to attempt the standing start again. Hopefully with no hiccups like yesterday.

I'm happy that Franchitti got his 3rd place reinstated, that would have have been a diabolical situation had it the stewards left the penalty to stand.

Hinchcliffe is stuck in the pits with the front wing being replaced.

Hinch has a stuck throttle. Oh dear, not good for the home hero.

The standing start gets going. Away we go!!!

Carpenter has stalled! ROTR for him. But no caution.

Dixon leads Castroneves, Power, Hunter-Reay, Bourdais and Kanaan. Franchitti is in to change the front wing.

Viso is in to 8th past di Silvestro. Sato is into 10th from 14th on the grid. But Hinchcliffe is 3 laps down on the leaders.

Bourdais is 5th by the way. Franchitti is down to 22nd and is 20 seconds behind Carlos Munoz.

Dixon's lead over championship leader Castroneves is 2 seconds. Conway has gained 10 places, from 23rd to 13th.

Viso is 6th. Franchitti is still in 22nd place. Kanaan is the first of the frontrunners to pit.

Hinchcliffe may be in last, but the other Canadian, Tagliani is in the top 10 and has pitted.

From now I will be only using the timing screens for reference as I am watching the Hunt/Lauda documentary on BBC2.

Dixon pits and falls to 21s behind his main rival Castroneves.

The majority of the field has pitted and Dixon retains the lead. Wilson and Munoz are 2nd and 5th respectively but are yet to stop.

Franchitti is past Munoz for 5th. Wilson is like a mobile chicane because Castroneves is more than 7s behind Dixon.

Having pitted at the start, Franchitti is now third. After pitting Munoz is back in 21st.

Franchitti comes in for his first real stop. He has dropped to 13th.

Castroneves is closing on Dixon at a rate of a few tenths of a lap.

Kanaan has fallen a lap down. Not good. By the way, no caution yet. That's surprising.

Tony Kanaan has retired due to 'contact'. Hinchcliffe is elevated from 27th.

Sato is 7th and Tagliani is 8th on home soil. Nice to see rookie Vautier in 9th, which would be his best finish yet.

Vautier pits. Dixon still has a comfortable lead ahead of Castroneves.

Castroneves and Dixon pit in succession. Dixon still leads and 2nd is Viso who is yet to pit again.

With his second stop looming, Franchitti is third behind the leading two drivers. When he pits, he leaves in 6th place.

Caution is out for the first time and James Jakes is out due to contact.

Hinchcliffe is in pits. On red tyres in the top 10 are Wilson and Kimball.

The restart is go and Hunter-Reay is 3rd now with 14 to go.

Bourdais is in 4th but is repassed by Power. He then gets past RHR who is down to 5th.

Lapped backmarkers are helping Scott Dixon escape again. The gap to Helio is 5s and increasing by 0.5s a lap.

Caution! It's Carpenter at turn 5. He's out of the race.

Bourdais is in third! Two consecutive podiums? Sato has been involved in an incident and caution is out. The race will finish that way too.

Sato and Hunter-Reay are out again! And Power also.

Dixon is a winner for the 32nd time in his career and it his third straight win. Castroneves and Bourdais complete the podium.

I don't see what he could've done to avoid that - he was right up alongside Power when Power went into full choke mode.

Will Power for Reject of the Weekend. What a bathplugging joke this guy has turned into. I can't bring myself to support him anymore when he keeps making stupid mistakes like this.

Scott Dixon needs to given number 1 status in the Ganassi squad immediately because ever since we switched to the DW12 he has blown Dario Franchitti into the weeds. Franchitti apart from that Indy 500 win in 2012 and a couple of podiums has been absolutely useless since winning the 2011 title.

As for Will Power what a difference a year makes. 1 podium all season. This is on a par with Gary Paffett's 2011 DTM season

Dixon is now 2nd in the championship, 29 points behind Castroneves. Pagenaud's only top 3 result of 2013 has been in Detroit but he has been so consistent he is 5th.
Takuma Sato hasn't scored a podium since that near-miss in Sao Paulo and having led the championship after that race, he has now slumped to 13th. His season in IndyCar is becoming a nightmare. It reminds me of Jarno Trulli's 2004 season.

UPDATE ON THE INTERNSHIP CONTEST:
as I expected, there were some last minute submissions Sunday night and also this morning (6/15).
I have received word that mine was the longest and most descriptive, which is a good thing.
I hope mine wins out over the others on Thursday, when the two finalists are selected.

Mid-Ohio is the Hungaroring of Indycar. I don't waste my time in watching this race. Yes, the track is pretty cool, but the races are extremely boring.

The race in Ohio will be underway shortly.

Green flag! Polesitter Hunter-Reay leads and Filippi got past Carpenter for his first ever IndyCar start.

Filippi is also past Graham Rahal as well! The only real gainer in the top 10 is di Silvestro for once.

Charlie Kimball is into 4th past Andretti and Filippi is now 21st out of 24 cars!

Andretti is from 4th down to 8th. de Silvestro is 7th.

Takuma Sato is down to 21st place. Servia has spun but recovers.

Sato is in a really bad moment for a driver that was the leader of the championship. Also, Kannan started to follow Sato too.

The race isn't over, but Kannan ROTR is pretty safe.

I don't agree with this. Indy is a rather unique open wheel series compared to most others, and it should partly stay unique with rolling starts. Let the Europeans gobble up the standing starts. A few standing starts is good for IndyCar, one might say, but not every road course.

If some of you find my lap-by-lap update annoying I'll stop (which I did as soon as RealRacingRoots posted to me). I just find it fun to post updates and also if some of you forgot what happened you could read my updates.

As for the race, nice to see Charlie Kimball score his maiden IndyCar win. Good drive from Castroneves and di Silvestro also. But then Sato scored his 5th consecutive out-of-the-teens finish and he has had no luck whatsoever since Sao Paulo. Did Enoch write somewhere after Brazil that Sato would be a real title contender this year or what?

I was surprised that debutant Filippi came as he did 16th but he appeared to have a problem in the final laps as he slipped from 14th to 16th and his last lap was at least 6 seconds off the pace. But the fact that he charged through the field a bit was impressive and if he qualifies better next time out, who knows what he can do?

Castroneves crashed pretty hard in Free Practice of Brazilian StockCar due a brake failure. He's ok, but could miss the race (Depending of Doctor's decision) and its unknown if this force him to miss the next Indycar race.
