Prost and Senna really were rejectful, weren't they? They set new lows for driving standards... (·,/)

Yeah, he has disappointed in the virtual 1989 series. But I figured having a 3 time world champion should attract sponsors.

AGS wins three Grands Prix with a rookie! Olivier Grouillard and Gabriele Tarquini unrejectified! Coloni scores points! Rial wins a race! Larrousse on a double podium! Oh wait...
But yes, IRL it must've been the most rejectful season ever. I wonder why so many drivers and teams even bothered to show up when it was just about certain that they would record little more than a streak of DNPQs. And how did some of them keep so many sponsors aboard, if the only exposure they were going to get was on Friday morning? But, better for us as it gave us so many reject stories to read!

You could ask why they bothered, but 16 of them scored points. And out of the 4 that didnt, Osella were decent.

Re: 1989 vintage reject year
1994 - 21 drivers failed to score points (out of 46 drivers in total - only 1 or 2 fewer than 1989 with much shorter entry lists). A former world championship team fails to score and goes bust. Only 4 out of 14 teams keep both drivers all year without any driver changes (Tyrrell, Footwork, Minardi and, surprisingly, Pacific).
But no pre-qualifying, unlike 1989.

Re: 1989 vintage reject year
Was this thread started because the 1989 review was on Sky F1 last night by any chance?
I know because I was watching it until the storms made the picture go off. I was just laughing my head off at the random nature of the results, with someone different and rubbish finishing 3rd in practically every race. The best bit was seeing the 2 Colonis - that's 2 COLONIS - going round Monaco. Truly a special year, especially qualifying when once in a while Caffi, Martini, Larini or even bloody Grouillard would qualify quite high up. The Australian GP with its mental crashes just topped it all off really.

wasn't that the season with the most regular entries? I think 39 per weekend or so.

One thing that strikes me is Roberto Moreno's Q1 time in Canada - 47:24.470. I mean, that's an average speed of 5,56 kilometers per hour! Did he push the car on the track to achieve that? ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

I'm guessing his car failed on his only lap, and his car was towed back to the pits after sitting by the side of the track for a long time, so when it returned to the pits, his car crossed the timing beam, recording a time.

I think when the session started the clock started to run for everyone, even if they were staying in pits. Moreno left the pits and crossed the timing line first time after those 47 minutes, and then stopped on the next lap.
There are other similar situations, from 1990s, like Barrichello in Imola 1994 or Blundell in Suzuka 1995.

Yeah I think there were 39 entrants at some grand prix that year. Martin Brundle has said that at Rio the Brabham team were housed in a canvas toilet tent until one of the teams who had a garage failed to pre-qualify and vacated. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

UgncreativeUsergname, I think we can cut this guy some slack. He just joined today, and he may not know some of the rules here. Well, double posting is not forbidden, but it isn't necessary. It's okay if the posts are more than a few days apart, and some cases more than a few months. But 30 minutes apart is frowned upon a lot here. Just saying...

1989 was great, for so many reasons:
Stefan Johansson's 3rd place at Estoril
Christian Danner's 4th at Phoenix
2 Colonis in the race at Monaco
Pierre-Henri Raphanel qualifying 17th at Monaco
Roberto Moreno's Coloni almost flicking over with a little help from Eddie Cheever's Arrows at Estoril
Nicola Larini in the wet in Canada in the Osella
Gabriele Tarquini 6th in Mexico with the AGS
2 Minardis in the points at Silverstone

You'd probably be better off getting something like F1 Challenge or rFactor and downloading F1 season mods for that.

GP4 doesn't have a 1989 mod, at least I don't think so. Plus you can only run 11 teams at a time.

Rfactor has had an 89 mod in development for about 8 million years now, and I doubt it's ever going to see the light of day.

Yes it was.
He ran third for some laps, before being passed by Senna and then his electrics went. Given the chaos he could have scored his first podium in that race. As it was, de Cesaris scored a podium, Alliot ran 3rd for a few laps as well and Warwick could also have won without his retirement.
