52 year-old Chris Waddle, yes CHRIS WADDLE, has just signed for Northern Counties Division One side Hallam FC, who are also the second oldest club in the world, having been founded in 1860 (according to Wikipedia).

He's probably still practicing penalties...

I actually saw him play for us (maybe twice actually, thinking about it) A reasonable achievement given that he didn't clock up many appearances. You'll be unsurprised to hear that I can remember absolutely nothing about his performances. The only saving grace in the whole thing is that we didn't apparently pay £9m at all..

Yes, Sint-Trond, but we refer to it as STVV. I've stated it many times that i feel sorry for you, because i know what it's like to have Duchatelet as an owner. (well, technically, his 'girlfriend' just ownes the stadium, kind of creative solution indeed) And yet, it's better than Sporting Hasselt, they have bathplugging Stijn Stijnen as an owner. But one of the reasons i dislike Genk is because how they screwed their 'B-team's, ask supporters of Heusden-Zolder, Patro Eisden or Tongeren about Genk. Also i don't like Genk in general, and that's because i'm from Hasselt, and comparing Hasselt to Genk is like comparing Liège to Charleroi. A rivalry of two cities of roughly the same size, but with a very different character and history. Basically, Hasselt is the capital of Belgian-Limburg, and Genk is the capital of Sicily :lol:

Also, i'm not really laughing at you, i feel sorry for Standard-fans. STVV and Standard fans have always had a friendly rivalry, as far as i remember. In fact, all our local rivalries (Leuven, Lommel, Hasselt, Tongeren, Tienen, Beringen, RFCL, Standard, and the teams from Dutch-Holland are friendly, only not Genk... .but back in the days of Winterslag and Waterschei, this also was friendly, they weren't that arrogant yet back then)

This one had actually a good reason, namely both were very succesful, long, long times ago. There are very few people still alive who have expierienced their succes period, and both still exist in a way, in nothing resembling their former glory. One thing we do have, are exotic sounding team names that no foreigner can properly pronounce from relatively small towns, having their big day once in a while. Did you people know that the town of Beerschot doesn't even exist?

(it's named after a street that was named after a historic place, or something like that) They actually had to legally prove this town once existed to keep it in their name when they merged.
Winterslag and Waterschei were actually 2 out of 3 important coal mine towns within the city of Genk, so when these coal mines shut down in the eighties (the Zwartberg one has been shut down well in the sixties), both teams lost their biggest support, and also the rivalry faded. The only people who still care about it are the old retired miners. Ah nostalgia. Like Winterslag-fans still talking about 'that day we beat Arsenal'.
In fact, similar things happened in Wallonia when the lots of coal mines and steel factories shut down, and very few of these teams still exist. Ah, the former glory of the teams from the industrial era.
Thankfully, STVV has never been an industrial giant, but an agricultural centre, and as long as people keep eating apples and pears, their main source of income is still guaranteed :lol:

It was Jerome who scored the goal you're probably thinking of, Benitez did score in that game. Nobody else could have helped Cameron Jerome score more than 5 goals in a season.

I was absolutely gutted when I found out about this. We're supposed to be paying tribute on Saturday by clapping in the 11th minute. He deserves it for being part of our best league finish for over 50 years. I fondly remember us going over 3 months without losing a game.

RIP Chucho, thanks for an unforgettable season, you will be missed :'(

Well, Zulte Waregem's debut in the Champions League wasn't exactly impressive. Either PSV are a really good team, or Zulte overestimated theirselves. Time will tell.

I doubt this Tomlinson lad will actually play for the first team, unles he actually has a fair bit of talent. I expect for the first few games he'll be selected on the bench to get the 1D fans in (sad thing is, that'll work) and he won't come on. Interest will wane slightly once Doncaster's gate receipts for girls between the ages of 10-16 decrease and they'll stuff him in the reserves before being released at the end of next season.
