And I missed qualifying because NBC Sports decided to air Arsenal and Fulham instead of quali (and I overslept). Awesome result for Caterham and Marussia.

Also have to praise the TV director. Caterham and Marussia, as deserved for the gamble they took, got a fair share of TV time - and their sponsors must love that

Van Der Garde in particular did a very good job out there, especially considering his monster shunt in practice. Will be interesting to see if he can come home ahead of one of the established teams.

I thought Rosberg was going to nab pole, I think his lap that was 0.5 seconds slower than Di Resta was probably the best of the day alongside VDG's 3rd place lap in Q1. As it was, Hamilton got a deserved pole and stole his thunder. I also thought Button was impressive throughout qualifying, consistently outperforming his car.

Yeah. Its rare to see Marussia and Caterham showing in the screen. We saw an entire lap with Van Der Garde. Well Done TV director.

In other side, I can't say the same for Marshalls, who are showing blue flags for Marussia and Caterham in your flying laps.

The Marussias were massively holding Hamilton up at times though, I was quite surprised Lewis wasn't on the radio to complain.

No! I saw a sponsor in their car today. PDVSA has splastered their logo onto the nose.

(ermm......then, who exactly could that hint for the Marussia seat then...?)

I'm sorry, but are you now asking us to stand up?
Is Hamilton really just a clone of JPM? Created in 06/07 so that JPM's genes would carry on inside the F1 paddock, even
though the original JPM went stateside to race with roofs instead.

Sutil's driving like a dick AGAIN. Nearly pushed Gutierrez off at Eau Rouge because he disgracefully didn't jump out of his way. Then caused the crash at the hairpin by driving into Maldonado. Then waves his arm at Gutierrez because he disgracefully tried to race him down to Eau Rouge again. What is wrong with him?

Kimi out, the RB by far the fastest car, and countless DRS overtakes.

Interesting from Hamilton, that he let Alonso past to have DRS. I always did that on F1 2012, didn't think they'd be at that!

And to add insult to injury Maldonado and Gutierrez received penalties for that incident to boot - I feel the penalty to Maldonado was harsh as it looked more like he was trying to avoid Sutil and wandered into di Resta's path.

SgtPepper wrote:Kimi out, the RB by far the fastest car, and countless DRS overtakes.

Well, that was disappointing.

I'm not entirely surprised that Kimi's brakes burned out so quickly in the end - he seemed to have high brake wear in the practise sessions and even during the brief bit of dry running in qualifying, and the amount of brake dust coming out of the ducts was unusually high given that the amount of time spent on the brakes around Spa is fairly low. Add to that the fact he was running for so long in the slipsteam of other cars, and it sounds as if Lotus were simply too aggressive on their cooling and paid the price.
In fact, it has to be said that it was a poor race for Lotus - the one stop strategy didn't work for Grosjean as he lost far too much time in his first stint, so it has to be said that they made poor decisions with both cars. It looks like the decision by Lotus and Mercedes to go for a slightly higher downforce package this weekend worked reasonably well in the wetter part of qualifying but, with other cars able to use their straight line speed advantage, it didn't work so well in the race for either of them.

shinji wrote:Interesting from Hamilton, that he let Alonso past to have DRS. I always did that on F1 2012, didn't think they'd be at that!

There was one point in their battle in Canada where Hamilton and Alonso were trying not to cross the DRS detection point first in an attempt to get DRS (with Hamilton briefly braking only for Alonso to clock what he was doing and immediately slowing down too). It shows how much of an advantage that it must have been in that race that Hamilton was prepared to sacrifice track position to get DRS, and I think that a few other drivers preferred not to attack into La Source and get the use of DRS down the Kemmel straight instead to make it easier to pass.

A big rant coming up.

As I said on the live chat, Vettel has won with the largest margin of the season (17 seconds at the finish), his 5th win of the season.
He also led every lap of the race.
There was no rain, no SCs and a main title contender out of the race.
The zig-zag trend I identified and predicted (Mercedes winning, Red Bull winning, Mercedes winning, Red Bull winning, Mercedes winning, Red Bull winning) very much continued. That was a madly boring, ordinary and disappointing race.
When a non-Vettel driver wins the race, you feel as though the title chase is still on. But whenever Vettel wins, like today, you think the championship battle is all but over. This race simply emphasized how poor this season has been.
