I think you very much have a point. I have only really experienced Schumacher domination, but I can tell you that I used to support every driver under the sun apart from him. Yes, even Jacques Villeneuve. But looking back on things, I have respect from Schumacher, and in the same way I have respect for Vettel now. Sometimes you just have to put up with the domination at the front and concentrate on the races elsewhere. Perhaps that's why I started coming to F1 Rejects in the first place.
Case in point, you could right off 2004 as a dud year. Schumacher won 12 of the first 13 races (take that crybabies!) and Ferrari won 16 out of 19 races. BUT, this season had:
- Jenson Button putting in some phenomenal performances in the BAR, including finishing 2nd at Hockenheim from 12th on the grid, driving a lot of the race one-handed
- Button-gate; Button saying he'd secured a move to Williams and then an almighty legal battle to get out of the contract and still at BAR
- Takuma Sato getting a podium at Indy and showing genuine pace throughout the season
- One of the most action packed Monaco GP's I've ever seen
- All sort of intrigue and disqualifications around the Canadian GP
- Spa churned out a very interesting race, full of safety cars
- Qualifying was rarely a foregone conclusion
- Ferrari might of won at China, but Schumacher was absolutely nowhere!
- Suzuka, with qualifying on a Sunday
- Fisichella being the effective perpetual IIDOTR, alongside Sato
- The McLaren and Williams cars looked awesome
And of course:
- A point for HWNSNBM!
Worth pointing out too that:
- Despite being Schumacher's most dominant season, it was also his last World Championship.
- 2004 is the last season in which Red Bull Racing didn't feature...
