Without wishing to sound like a total wazzock, I can upgrade my own car right? I don't have to wait for Walkinshaws approval or anything?

Yeah, teams can upgrade their own car. And Jacques Villeneuve just called. It's 70k or bust.

Does that mean i could take one of those teams and join the series

Indeed you can. I just need which team you want to take, a car number and some drivers so we'll be good to go.

How many events are part time entries allowed to enter

Christian Klien will cost you $65k.

Part-time entries can enter a maximum of ten events, but by default, they are entered in the following races from here-on in:

Townsville
Eastern Creek
Sandown
Bathurst
Gold Coast
Phillip Island
Oran Park

Of course, you can enter other events as well, but the full-time teams won't be impressed if you knock one of their cars out of the field.

EDIT: Having just read through the thread again, you'll be in a bidding war with Stone Brothers for Moffat's services, as they currently have an offer on the table to him. They haven't confirmed the amount yet, but it'll be around $30k for starters.

And with that, upgrades for this round are now closed, but not before Triple F bought a $150k engine power upgrade in the chatroom. Meanwhile, here are the test results for Greg Murphy Racing at Phillip Island:

Day 1:
P. Dumbrell - 1:33.008

Day 2:
D. Besnard - 1:31.827
P. Dumbrell - 1:33.963

For whatever reason, the track was just plain slow in day 1, while in typical Dumbrell fashion, PD crashed the car early on in day two which explains his slow lap time. PD learnt nothing from either day, so he doesn't get any stat bonuses, while Besnard had a productive second day, and thus will get a dry race stat boost.

One got the feeling that after the weirdness at Ruapuna, most of the V8 field were still suffering from the aftershock as they arrived at Hidden Valley. Craig Lowndes was having no such issues however, as he continued his ominous form to score pole position for race 1, with Steven Richards in the Castrol FPR car the only driver to get anywhere near his time. With just a few minutes to go, it looked like David Reynolds would score his first career pole before late flyers demoted him to row two alongside another championship contender in the form of Garth Tander. Dick Johnson Racing meanwhile had a shocker of a session however, with James Courtney down in 9th and Steven Johnson in the other car stranded in 15th, while Will Davison was another disappointment down in 25th. But all that was overshadowed by the problems that befell Jamie Whincup, as a gearbox change had to be done just as the session started when it was discovered that the car didn't want to select a gear. The change eventually proved to be costly for JDub, as he didn't set a time in qualifying and will now have to start race 1 at the back of the field.

SkyCity Triple Crown Race 1

Race 1 was a fairly sedate race for Craig Lowndes, as he simply drove away from the field to take what was, in the end, a fairly comfortable win, the action behind was intense as many front-runners fell by the wayside. Tim Slade retired early with an engine failure, but the first big name to hit trouble was Garth Tander, who flew off the road at the final corner never to be seen again. Tony D'Alberto followed Slade's example a few laps later, but was soon overshadowed by Steven Johnson being punted off the road at turn 1, rejoining in the lower midfield from which he would never recover.

In all the jostling for position in the midfield, Todd Kelly and James Thompson had made some fantastic progress up the field, with Thompson knocking on the door of his first top 10 finish in a long time in the AutoBahn car. Meanwhile, David Reynolds fell off the track at the final corner whilst battling for a podium position and rejoined behind teammate Jason Bright, just as James Courtney in the second DJR car was having similar issues to his teammate which ended his afternoon early.

With the racing in the midfield as tight as ever, Thompson eventually worked his way into the top 10 with classy moves on both Bright and Jorg Bergmeister, as Lee Holdsworth was also making progress from his poor qualifying position to be well inside the top 20. Not that Russell Ingall cared too much for it though, as the Enforcer's race came to an early end with an accident on lap 36, before the heartbreak story of the day came in the form of James Thompson whose engine blew up with three laps to go while on track for 9th place.

In the end, Lowndes took a comfortable win from Steven Richards and Alex Davies. Michael Caruso and Paul Dumbrell finished right behind them in 4th and 5th, in what were season-best runs for both their drivers, with Shane van Gisbergen, Fabian Coulthard, Reynolds, Bergmeister and Bright rounding out the top 10. Of the major runners at the back of the field, Jamie Whincup made little progress as he finished in 20th, Steven Johnson ended up P23, and Will Davison was simply awful as he finished 26th and last of the cars still running.

SkyCity Triple Crown Race 2

The first of the two Sunday races was a rather sedate and predictable affair, with Craig Lowndes romping away to another victory, and pole position for race three. Steven Richards finished second for the second time this weekend, with Shane van Gisbergen scoring third place for the Walkinshaw team. Further back, and the two Britek cars were having their most competitive run all season, with team owner Jason Bright leading David Reynolds home in 5th and 6th, while Jonathon Webb scored a season-best result in 9th. At the back of the field however were several tales of woe, as the two works Walkinshaw cars of Garth Tander and Will Davison continued to struggle, with Davo eventually finishing a lap down in 29th, while Jamie Whincup and the two DJR Falcons of Steven Johnson and James Courtney didn't have it any better. In all, there were two retirements from the race, as Kayne Scott had a scary brake failure heading into turn 1 on the second lap, while Paul Dumbrell's gearbox packed up while on track for a solid top 10 finish.

Skycity Triple Crown Race 3

The rolling starts have provided many talking points so far this year, and the third race at Darwin was no exception as Craig Lowndes got swamped heading into turn 1, a position from which he would never fully recover. Early on, it was Steven Richards at the pointy end of the field as he set about securing FPR's first round win of 2009, with Alex Davison right behind him. At the back of the pack meanwhile, a full-scale civil war was breaking out between HRT, DJR, Tasman, Ingall, Dumbrell, Whincup, Slade, Perkins Thompson, with much paint swapping and barging occurring between them over the course of the race, once and for all proving the general consensus in the paddock that the most action always occurs in the lower half of the field.

Not that the top of the field wasn't devoid of action either mind you, as Lowndes was getting impatience with David Reynolds ahead of him. Eventually, he had enough of the flouro-green car ahead of him, and dived down the inside at turn 1 to take 3rd place from him. Davison meanwhile was also showing little patience meanwhile, as he took the lead from Richards on lap 10, which he would never relinquish from that point on, leaving Richards to fight off the rampaging Lowndes behind. While there were no retirements in the race, there were many incidents throughout the field, many of which centered around Lowndes' teammate Whincup, whose car looked like it had been in a demolition derby having to barge his way through the lower midfield, but it was HRT and DJR that got the worst of it, as their miserable weekends continued unabated.

In the end, Davison comfortably held on to score his first career V8 Supercar victory, and the first of the year for Stone Brothers Racing. Richards held on to second place ahead of Craig Lowndes, as the Team Vodafone driver took home yet another round victory. David Reynolds capped off his fine weekend with 4th place ahead of the second FPR car of Jorg Bergmeister and Fabian Coulthard in the sister SBR machine. Jonathon Webb bettered his career best from race 2 with a credible 7th place finish, ahead of Dean Canto, Michael Caruso and Todd Kelly. Jamie Whincup managed to work his way up to P16 by race end, while the two HRTs and DJR cars were still well outside the top 10 by weekend's end.

As always, standings and budgets can be found here.

The next round at Townsville will be in about two weeks time, so remember to get your upgrades in before then. And as a final note, if the owner of Kelly Racing does not show up in the thread by Townsville, they will be replaced, and it won't be pretty.

Finally some good results for Webb. A 7th place is a nice success for the smallest permanent entry.

Engine upgrades have been added. I assume the car mass upgrade is for WR 008, correct?

In that case, Kelly Racing is now available, with priority given to those with part-time teams and RRR, who has previously expressed interest in entering the series.

Finally, there are 38 cars entered for the Townsville event so far, but with only 36 spots, there will be a pre-qualifying session before qualifying. The 32 full-time entries are guaranteed race starts, being owners of the 32 permanent RECs, so the following cars will have to compete for the final four spots in pre-qualifying:

#28 - Christian Klien (Sonic Motor Racing Services)
#35 - Allan Simonsen (Garry Rogers Motorsport)
#47 - John McIntyre (James Rosenberg Racing)
#77 - Mark McNally (Team IntaRacing)
#88 - David Thexton (Thexton Motor Sport)
#222 - Mark Skaife (HSV Racing)

Confirming here that I will be taking control of Kelly Racing.

And since the Kellys got Millions of Dollars, time for upgrades.

Weight: 5kg drop for both cars - $50k x 2 = $100k
Engine Reliability - Failure Chance: 100 point drop for both cars - $20k x 2 = $40k
Engine Power/Torque: One HP/NM Upgrade - $20k + $20K = $40k

Total Upgrades cost: $180k

The engine reliability applies to both cars by default, so the cost is only $20k, not $40k. Everything else is above board though

The reliability upgrade costs $24k, not $20k. By default, I put the full 120 points since you can afford it, but you can change it back to 100 points if you so desire

In addition, TKR have bought another 7bhp upgrade at the cost of $140k. They are now 4bhp away from the upper limit of 660bhp.

Upgrade Time: I will spend 100k on engine power, 100k on engine tourque and 50K on Fuel efficiency

Also, there is no way Zanardi should be allowed to race at the enduros, as to make the required modifications it would compromise the car for any normal driver he is sharing with. And it is totally unrealistic.

Dunlop Townsville 400 Race 1

With the grid as jumbled-up as it was, many were expecting plenty of fireworks for the first ever race at the brand-new Townsville Street Circuit. It didn't fail to disappoint, as while Rick Kelly skipped away to an early lead, much of the field were too busy fighting for sheep stations to care. The fight ended early for James Courtney with a suspension failure at the high-speed turn 9, before his stricken car got collected by the unsuspecting Shane van Gisbergen in a rather frightening incident, putting both cars out of the race, forcing others in the pits for damage and bringing out the first safety car of the afternoon.

The Townsville marshals were ruthlessly efficient in cleaning the mess and the 34 remaining runners were soon released to battle once more. Kelly remained in the lead, but this time, several runners went with him, most notably the likes of John McIntyre, Tim Slade and James Thompson, who had all got their cars working perfectly with the new circuit on a day where other big names had struggled. Kelly maintained the lead up front until lap 43, when Slade went for a cheeky move into turn 11 to take the lead while the leaders were scrambling around traffic. It was at this point that Allan Simonsen's race came to an end, as a suspension failure ground a potential top-ten run to an abrupt halt.

Once the pitstop phase came into session though, the action really started to kick off, with Mark Skaife running out of fuel on lap 51, setting the tone for the next few laps as Christian Klien and Dean Canto also ran out of fuel in quick succession. But that was all over-shadowed by the massive lap 53 pileup which collected several key runners and lapped cars on pit exit. It started when Kayne Scott was collected by the lapped Jason Richards on pit exit, and ended up spreading to take out several other runners including Lee Holdsworth, Tony D'Alberto, Kelly and championship leader Craig Lowndes, who had been having a miserable afternoon and was almost two laps down by that point. The resulting Safety Car picked up the second Jack Daniels machine of Todd Kelly as the leader of the race, but once he stopped under the SC, the order was corrected to Slade, McIntyre, Steven Johnson, Thompson, Jorg Bergmeister and Jason Bright rounding out the top 6.

As Tim Slade skipped away from the field at the restart, all eyes were on the battle for second, as we had Johnson trying to score as many points on his championship rivals Gisbergen and Lowndes as he possibly could, Bergmeister looking to score his first career podium for FPR, Thompson trying to save his V8 Supercar career at Walkinshaw, Bright trying to score BriTek's first podium as a team, and McIntyre having an incredible weekend for the part-time entry at James Rosenberg. Initially, it looked like Bright would have the pace to take second place, until Johnson set out on a charge to second place, and with Alex Davison closing in rapidly on the lot of them and many other cars struggling to the end with significant damage, it didn't look likely that this battle would be sorted until the final lap.

By the end, Slade had disappeared up the road to the tune of about 20 seconds by race end to score a surprise but well-deserved first career win, but the battle for second was still raging on. Johnson had managed to hold on to second until just a few laps to go, when he got punted out of the way by McIntyre, allowing Bergmeister to go through on both of them. Johnson's gearbox then gave up on him a few laps later, removing the DJR car from a potential top five result, but he had still done enough laps to be classified as a finisher. This left Jorg Bergmeister to drive home for his first career podium, with McIntyre and Thompson hounding him to the line. Alex Davison finished 5th after fading late in the race ahead of Bright, the Enforcer Russell Ingall, Todd Kelly, Ralph Firman and Jason Bargwanna.

1. T. Slade (Brad Jones Racing): 1h 38m 48.648
