At least your press isn't gone totally mad like the Belgian one. Now suddenly everybody thinks we can win the world cup. Of course, it's not unpossible, but let's keep our feet on the ground... The game against Wales showed that they're not invincible. (still, the press keeps telling 'that game didn't matter, no need to worry!') Funny thing is that the dutch press is getting very annoyed, because for the first time in history, we out-class them in overambition. I've got a feeling their only world cup ambition will be 'beat those bloody belgian bastards!' (whilst actually, they haven't exacly done bad themselves) In fact, even the French are getting a little bit nervous about their nothern neighbours. Mostly complaining about how unfair the qualifying system is

Well if the French didn't keep getting knocked out in the group stage of everything...
I love the fact that Belgium have qualified - it takes me back to the days when I was young and their team were always good, with players like Enzo Scifo, Frankie Vercauteren, Francois van der Elst (an ex-Hammer!) Eric Gerets, Jean-Marie Pfaff et al.
I honestly think that with a bit of luck in the draw, they could get to the semi-finals. They won't win it though!
Barbazza must be ecstatic! Fiorentina coming from 2-0 down at half-time to Juventus to sweep up all the points with a 4-2 win yesterday, all thanks to a 15 minute Giuseppe Rossi hattrick. Forza Montella!

You're not wrong! Shame I couldn't see any of it, assuming it was on BT Sport in the first place (our derby games were never usually on ESPN when I had it anyway) although I'm sure there are highlights to be found somewhere.
I was surprised that we hadn't beaten them at home for so long when I saw the stat though.

And I bet you loved Fredy Guarín's overhead kick yesterday. I had the game on since it was on BT Sport, second time i've watched them on there as your game against Roma was on there too.
According to the bookies, we're now fourth favourites for Championship relegation, which doesn't surprise me one bit. We were completely dicked by Leeds yesterday, and I can see the same happening at Pride Park against Derby on Saturday. I'm really going to regret going to that game by full time.

No mate, London is red and always will be! Spurs forever in our shadow!

Indeed, that was one sweet goal. Was absolutely galling to watch (I think) Gazzi get that equaliser on 89 minutes though.

New to the forums so I'm not up to speed on who follows whom.
I myself am a Wrexham fan (up the Town!). Also follow United, Fulham and a smattering of clubs on the continent due to my international, jet set lifestyle.
Anyone else keen on the English lower leagues though? I honestly think the English Championship to be one of the best leagues around to watch.
I support both Yeovil and Bath City, so I'm always keeping my attention towards the lower leagues!

Sadly Merseyside's 3rd club is not doing so well. It's hard to Believe that Tranmere Rovers led for so long last season and are now rooted into the Relegation Zone having just picked up from where they left off in the last 10 games of 12/13. There's no real change in the team so what has gone wrong?
Ataxia wrote:I support both Yeovil and Bath City, so I'm always keeping my attention towards the lower leagues!
I still remember a particularly famous upset about 11 years ago when Yeovil knocked Wrexham out of the FA Cup. Look at the direction of the two clubs since then... (I'd rather not!)
As for Tranmere, maybe the fact that there has been no change is the problem? Other teams around have caught up whereas Tranmere have stagnated a little bit.

It's been interesting watching the Serie A games on BT Sport's (not exactly highly publicised) free weekend.
The real revelation was the fact that Peter Drury managed to commentate on 2 games in a style so far removed from his overly hyper, cliched style that he uses on ITV that it took me a fair while to recognise that it was him! (Then again, did he used to commentate on Italian games for C4 years ago? I can't recall)
Unfortunately, the commentator on tonight's game appears to think that one of the teams playing is 'Calgary' and is utterly dreadful.
I note that they also have James Richardson on, though not presenting the Italian coverage particularly, which is odd. The fact that they have that pair of idiots Chris Hollins and (especially) Tim Lovejoy is not making me rush to take out a subscription, I'm afraid. And this in a week when I've been completely been dicked about by Sky.

I already have BT Sport thanks to the Virgin Media package I had before, so it's the opposite for me being in no rush to subscribe to Sky, plus i'm actually at the game more often than not on a Saturday, being a ST holder and the fact that I go to a few away games a season.
May as well just give Monaco the title then. Can't see any player in Ligue 1 turning down a transfer offer from them if they come knocking (mind you, Monaco are probably looking to buy their players from outside France).
I guess nobody wants to win the title here in Belgium...
Meanwhile: the only really rejectful things that are happening are Mpenza's rejectful exploits. As he isn't allowed to play because his ex-team Neftchi Baku is acting difficult. Also he is on a performance based contract.
This wrote:I guess nobody wants to win the title here in Belgium...
You forget they are essentially playing for 1.5 points a win instead of 3.
As much as I'd like Standard to maintain the solid start, I think Genk are easily the best team in Belgium. Vossen and Mboyo are PL standard.
With the Play offs you never know though. But Genk always have an advantage in Play offs due to the fact that they are never seen as a grudge-team in a derby game. It's usually their supporters that have to do the hatin'. All the other Top 6 teams basically have massive games like the Vlaams Derby where a useless Gent still manage to bathplug Club Brugge over cause it's Brugge.
Pantilimon is a good keeper but you hope that this isn't a start of a terminal decline for Hart. I've seen it happen at AFC Wimbledon. We have a young keeper called Seb Brown who was an excellent shot-stopper (particularly good at saving penalties) but had questionable decision making. He made a few bad mistakes and was taken out the side. That shook his confidence so much that supposedly he just went to pieces and was no good in training. He's had a few loan spells but these haven't helped. He's still on the books but hasn't played for us for about 2 years.

Begovic scoring in under 15 seconds, Manchester City winning 7-0, Newcastle United beating Chelsea, and Sheffield Wednesday winning a game.
A day full of surprises, and we unsurprisingly lose at home to Charlton. I genuinely fear relegation now, travelling to places like Stevenage and Oldham seems like it'll become a reality next season.

Not everything was a surprise. We played a 4-6-0 formation and got a tedious 0-0 draw again.
It's always gaffes galore on Tyneside whenever Joe Kinnear is involved. Apparently, Kinnear went to watch Birmingham a month ago and went back to Newcastle raving about a certain player he'd seen. Talking to the Birmingham executives, he asked about signing this particular player and was laughed out of the room.
Why? The player who'd impressed him was Shane Ferguson, who is on loan at Birmingham...from Newcastle.
Mitch Hedberg wrote:I want to be a race car passenger: just a guy who bugs the driver. Say man, can I turn on the radio? You should slow down. Why do we gotta keep going in circles? Man, you really like Tide...
Also, I'm glad Joe Hart was dropped. It's not like he'll suddenly be playing for Cheadle FC in the Manchester Sunday League. He's well out of form and deserves to be dropped. It will be a test of his own character whether he can apply himself more in training and come back a better player.
The problem is, for a Captain Obvious medal, is that he has had no competition since establishing himself as City and England's #1. Usually there would be competition for at least one of those positions.
Pantilimon deserves a shot, but the underdog (and goalkeeper) in me wants to see a weekend where Carlo Nash plays for Norwich, and Richard Wright plays for Manchester City. Amazingly, those veterans are still on the books at those clubs. Carlo Nash in particular has 'played' for Everton 2008-10, Stoke 2010-13 and moved to Norwich this summer.
I would have also said Andy Marshall playing for Aston Villa, but after four years, he's finally moved back to Millwall to play second fiddle there instead of third fiddle in the Prem.
Liquid wrote:Even for Joe Kinnear, that cannot be true!
I can see why you think that, since the only person who plays for us that is anywhere near good enough to play for a Premier League team is Chris Burke, and that's at a push.

That does not surprise me in the slightest, what a wazzock.

Fulham will survive. They are a nothing team, but there's always someone worse than them. Funny thing is, they are worse than ever this season despite having a relatively strong squad (if a bit old) on paper - possibly suffering from QPR-syndrome.
I keep saying that we're going down, but no-one believes me. Such is the mystifying awe that most people seem to have for the stupid, coarse, tactically inept manager we are currently saddled with.

To give him credit where its due, he appears to have a decent sense of humour. I mean, sending Carlton Cole on in search of an equaliser; no way would someone do that if they weren't looking to cheer the fans up.
