Meanwhile in Belgium.
The main happening is relevant to me in particular, since it happened 3km away from where I live. Sprimont-Comblain, through a miracle of nature, are in the third division this season, and last week, they faced La Louvière, which was a previously very successful team with a rivalry against Standard de Liège. Of course, a few Standard "supporters" decided to come over to Sprimont before the match and break some stuff. Cars were damaged and three policemen went to the hospital. I'm ashamaed to be represented by these guys as a Standard supporter.
Oh, and by the way, Sprimont won 3-1
Also, Mons are continuing to make Derby County's 2007-08 season look like title-contending form, with now 3 points from 15 matches. Not a single victory so far at the halfway point of the season.
Mons are really looking troublesome, they're the only JPL team that got eliminated in the cup. (altough it was against Westerlo, who are currently leading second division, but still it tells some things)
But like Watka said... Thing with Mons is that they can't manage to get consistent results over the years, usually lasting a period of 3 years before getting relegated again. This team gives me the feeling that whenever they have a good season, it's more a case of being a bit lucky with their transfers, rather than really doing a good job.
Well these things happen a lot in Liege, i know from some friend who's supporting Eendracht Aalst, that a few years back RFCL-fans were supporting Aalst in their game against Visé, so i suppose these 'hardcore' fans are also at the other side of Liège, and each of them have their own little rivals. It's a shame these things are happening, but it's always been like that that the 'hooligans' have their own rivalries that don't have much to do with the actual fans.
A little bit of meanwhile, also involving Standard, is that now Racing Genk has publicly declared war against Roland Duchatelet. Now despite disliking Genk, i kind of understand their frustrations, as Duchatelet has gained himself the reputation as a man who thinks everything in football is for sale.
I wish you good luck with Sprimont-Comblain. Promotion will probably be a curse for such a small team, but i hope they remain long in third, which is a good place for them. My local team, Hades (also 3 km from me), isn't doing bad either, being in the top 5 in Division 4C, i do hope they get promoted, because a derby within the city of Hasselt (against Sporting) would be a good excuse to go and actually see a game of them. And it might be the pressure that Sporting needs to actually get their act together, and start to become a more professional team. And if they don't, then Hades will gladly take over the role of being Hasselts best performing team. (altough i can't see them ever doing better than 3rd division) Also they're named after the Greek god of the underworld, how cool is that, really? The only more epic name i can think of would be something like 'FC Satan La Roche'n Roll' with matricule 666, their stadium being called 'Hell' but sadly that team does only exist in my fantasy, and i wouldn't really descibe La Roche as hell...
