I have to say the RAIN (since the race is over) wins this award for me despite Mercedes once again messing up big time. It came on the wrong day.
Saying that though Mercedes really were asking for the award since they managed to mess up a great quali. AGAIN

The weather - Teased us time and again, but sadly did not deliver.
Caterham - Had a chance of taking 10th in the constructors, and what did they do? VDG ignores blue flags, and Pic breaks his suspension.

But ROTR has to go to:

Everyone in the race bar Sebastian Vettel: At the writing of this post, I have been awake for 10 minutes. I missed the entire race, and as a Vettel fan, I'm pleased that he won, but I can't honestly say I was surprised.

Tempted to give it to Mercedes because of their high downforce set-up, but they'd have been mega in the traction zones had it rained so that's a team taking a strategic gamble that didn't pay off. Therefore, Hamilton for not using the (admittedly stupidly small) mirrors and ending Bottas' race.

And if anyone votes for Caterham, your a bit silly. It's hardly their fault they didn't get 13th today, blame their first three races

But gutted for GVDG, he deserved more. He's been one of my drivers-of-the-year.

Lewis Hamilton- Yep, turns out that moving across the track in the braking zone does result in accidents. Who would've thought it?

Honourable mentions

Mercedes- Poor pace, did their best to gift Ferrari 2nd in the Constructors.
Heikki Kovaleinen- The man signed to help Lotus catch Ferrari and Mercedes spent the whole race bumbling around outside the points, being anonymously slow, and can probably kiss goodbye to his career for good now.

I won't be surprised if this does happen, the FIA never likes drivers to take their helmets off on the cooldown lap. They fined Gerhard Berger after the 1989 Portuguese GP for taking his helmet off after winning the race.

Otherwise:

3. Grosjean's Renault engine. Ruined a potentially great race from him, even if he had a below par start.

2. Red Bull's pit stops. For the team that hasn't done almost anything wrong all year, to screw up 3 stops in one day is pretty reject worthy.

1. Mercedes AMG Petronas/Williams GP Engineering. For Merc, Lewis driving like a tool, the setup being wrong, but then again, they couldn't do anything, Rosberg taking the lead on lap 1 only to finish behind a McLaren, and just a bad day for them. For Williams, Bottas used as a battering ram, and Maldonado being useless and causing hilarity in the F1 Rejects chatroom. Overall, both performances were equally as bad in reality and for both of these teams being beaten up by McLaren (Merc in particular) is just sad.

Honorable mention for the weather forecast.

Hamilton: Did his best impression of Olivier Grouillard and knocked Bottas out of the race, and then claimed it wasn't his fault. Use your mirrors, Hambone!

Honorable mentions:
The pit entry: Everyone cuts into there; either put a brick wall there if people aren't allowed to cut it or redesign it. I know it is not easy, but to be honest I am surprised no one hasn't run into the pit wall there (to my knowledge). it's an accident waiting to happen, and aside from that, it's just poorly marked.

Kovalainen: Was absolutely nowhere.

I really can't nominate rain since well, you can't control weather.

This is a very good point to make and is certainly a low point for me during the race. The only issue with the pit entry before that I can recall was last year when Karthikeyan chopped off Grosjean right near the wall and half of RoGro's front wing went with it. But, why should they do squat about it? It's a stupid thing to doon the FIA's part, because the driver's won't care if there is a wall or not at the white line, they will get as close as they can to the white line.

He can be given slack for Austin as he had a KERS issue and a damaged front wing, but otherwise, I'd agree with you. It makes me wonder what Valsecchi would have done.

According to the Finnish broadcast, Lotus changed the floor design of Kovalainen's car between Friday and Saturday and he wasn't entirely happy about it.

In defence of Hamilton - Bottas was being LAPPED. Why was Bottas trying to unlap himself with DRS when he'd have only been getting blue flags again a few corners later? I can accept the penalty for Hamilton would have been fair enough had they been racing for position but they weren't - Bottas was being lapped and therefore should have get Hamilton go, and not put himself in that position.

Plus it was picked up on the Skypad that Hamilton DID leave a car's width on the right as there was still some space between Bottas and the edge of the track.

Coulthard came out with this - sorry to say this, but it is - excuse on the commentary. But would you want to slide onto the white line in the wet? It doesn't matter how much room there was, Lewis moved over on him, simple as that. If anyone looked like they were racing for position, to me it was Lewis. He'd been in one of his 'moods' all weekend so it's no surprise that something like that happened!

I was starting to think that I was the only one to see it that way. It would have been different had they been racing for position, as I initially assumed watching the replay - but later they showed a second one which showed Hamilton ahead and Bottas taking advantage of DRS to stay close to him. Too close, in the end.

I'm no Hamilton fan, but it seems as every time he's involved in a racing accident which people blame on him, I can't see it. Off the top of my mind I can remember his crash with Kobayashi at Spa and with Maldonado at Monaco as two examples of this. It puzzles me a little bit... But I don't remember him ever crashing with Alonso: battles between those two are always great, completely in the limit and yet they never seem to collide, and that's not because Alonso lifts off all the time, or anything. Granted, now the next race they will crash against each other and retire :lol:

but my point is that maybe Hamilton tends to expect from every other driver the same level of awareness that he has, and this is what from time to time causes these crashes, while he doesn't have this problem with racing someone of Alonso's skill.

Just because he's lapping a car does not mean he doesn't have to check his mirrors. If Bottas turned on Hamilton there would be some credence, but he didn't.
