I didn't know Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and Hollywood Hogan were planning on conquering the world.

I sense that was a stereotyped message. Not meaning to be annoying, but are there Americans as stupid as Don Pentecost on this forum, may I ask?

I just had a look at Conservapedia's front page. Oh boy. Please tell me its actually a satrical wiki on how backwards/bigoted the far right is. I wanted to throw my laptop out my window reading some of the shite on there.

I'm genuinely not sure if it is or isn't. I do know that people on the right have taken it seriously and agree with some things on there...

dinizintheoven wrote:I used to call it The Onion Effect, until I found it was known on TV Tropes as Poe's Law. In short, it's where it becomes ever harder to distinguish between satirical articles written about extremist nutcases, and those extremist nutcases themselves.
I called it the Onion Effect as I'd seen an Onion article entitled "Christian Right Lobbies To Overturn Second Law Of Thermodynamics" - where you'd think that even the craziest of nutcases with the thinnest of grip on scientific principles wouldn't be that stupid. Wouldn't you? And yet, I got the dreadful sense of foreboding that somewhere, out there, there is someone who believes that the Second Law of Thermodynaics should be overturned, for exactly the reasons given in the article (plus a complete ignorance of what "law" means in a scientific instead of a legal sense), and it doesn't take much to figure out where in the world that person lives.
Take Conservapedia as a massive and very alarming example of The Onion Effect, Poe's Law, whatever you want to call it. There are people who will take every single word of it as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, even when edits are made on the page that contradict what it said before, and even when the parodists mentioned above get their way.
Who still wants to live on this planet?

Another problem with America is that people follow their beliefs, like we're supposed to. But this gets in the way with the voting system. People should take into consideration how well they think people can do in an office. Ever since Barack took office, I hear friends calling him names and saying that he is a crap president, and call him names like "Barack Osama," which is just wrong and they need to bugger off. Not to bring serious politics into this, I apologize for that, but Americans don't use common sense. They follow their beliefs and they base their decisions off of that, which doesn't do us any good. Plus, I don't see some Americans following the laws half the dang time because they think the law doesn't apply to them because we are a "free country." Texting while driving is illegal in Pennsylvania, yet I saw someone doing it today
These days, BBC is the best news source that I use. I will look at CNN and MSNBC, only to get the hilarity out of the political crap they talk about, because half of it is nonsense.
The thing about the PETA members burning Hummers and other whatnot need to zark off. Yeah, you might be joking (or not...) The point is, they are making themselves look silly. What's the point? Just because Obama's a black guy doesn't mean we were racist when we didn't vote for him. Bull paddies. Complete and utter bull paddies. I completely understand why 20% of Americans vote. The way Americans think is just nonsense. Not that the American members here or others think nonsense, but I'd think over half of the American population do. It's sad, and these reasons pointed out are why I want to leave this place and move to a place like Monaco. Or France, my dream place to live.*
*I can dream.
