I knew that third car was linked to Marussia in some way as it's covered in Quantel and Bifold logos, both of which sponsor the F1 team! It all makes sense!

If it means that lunatic won't be on the grid any more, I can live with that very comfortably.
I'd love to see your face if Andy Neate is driving in 2014.
Rejectdom is fun as long as the driver in question isn't a danger to others on the track, and unfortunately that's exactly what Neate is. It's why people aren't that fond of Yuji Ide, either.

Really? They didn't put Tom Ingram in the 3rd car? I thought they'd have gone with a KX driver or will they pay for him to go somewhere else. It would be an absolute travesty if Ingram didn't get to graduate to the BTCC this year, or Josh Files.
Reading between the lines in the news reports, it sounds as if Sam Tordoff may be driving elsewhere in 2014, which would open up the second seat for Ingram (Files would presumably have to look elsewhere as he isn't in the KX Akademy, unless the scheme has been changed) - like how SEAT Sport UK spent several years in the mid-2000s using its second seat (also alongside Plato!) as a prize drive and spingboard for greater things rather than a long-term seat, before finally sticking with Darren Turner for the last few years of its BTCC campaign.

Josh Files did test for Motorbase at the end of October, I'd be surprised if they had an opening for him though. It would be a shame if Tordoff lost his MG drive, hope he lands somewhere decent if he does.
And Alex MacDowell just completed a test for WSR, would be an interesting fit but I won't hold my breath at this point. Heck we've even had Newsham and Turkington test for Gilham of all teams. http://www.btcccrazy.co.uk/btcc/macdowa ... -ebay-bmw/
Bad news - apparently Chris James has an "exciting announcement" due for today. I have this horrible feeling he managed to get a TOCA licence now.
But there are rumours which will please at least one of our members on here, and that is James may have signed a female driver.

Why Alan Gow? Why? Still if he hires a female driver and that female driver turns out to be say, Louise Richardson. Reckon she'd destroy him on the track.

Hmm, Tony Hughes entered 80% the number of races that Chris James did, yet scored less than 80% the points... But I see your point of him scoring less than many part-times entrants.

WTCC is in a whole world of trouble when the Cruze becomes ineligible for competition.

That would be a total travesty if true. Tordoff last year showed that he's certainly no mug behind the wheel, and there aren't many other quick drivers in the sport who are willing to support their teammate in the way Tordoff did last year. In the long run as well, Tordoff could well learn from Plato, who although I strongly dislike, he is one of the top drivers in the BTCC, and Triple 8 could well benefit- Plato's not getting any younger, and Tordoff could well have another 20 years left in him. From my point of view, it would make more sense to open the third seat up as a prize seat, or alternatively just shunt Ingram off into one of Tony Gilham's many cars.
On a side note, having watched some BTCC from the early noughties, anyone else think the careers of Paul O'Neill and Tom Onslow-Cole have some startling parallels?

In what way?
Well, both of them drove for Triple 8 (when they were the works Vauxhall team) early in their career after great debut seasons, but unfortunately for reasons, their careers never took off (O'Neill had a illness which cost him his Vauxhall seat IIRC, whilst it's money issues for TOC), and they've ended up constantly changing between midfield teams, or not even being able to get drives. Although TOC could have won the 2010 title had Team Aon given him their full support.

And it also appears that Motorbase are building a 4th Focus to replace the one they sold. Hopefully they've got the cash to keep Jackson, Smith and TOC for 2014.

BTC Racing has a grid slot for 2014 despite failing to turn up all last season. Looks like their chassis is complete, I hope they manage to get the funding to actually run. http://www.btcccrazy.co.uk/btcc/btc-rac ... ficulties/
Bad news of the day is that Rob Austin has lost his title sponsor Wix for 2014, hopefully they still make the grid.
But the BTCC will race on the International layout at Oulton Park for the first time in ages which is great! I love that blast down to Shell Oils corner past the water! http://www.btcc.net/html/generalnews_detail.php?id=3645
Jose Maria Lopez, he who was suppose to drive for USF1, has secured the third Factory Citroen seat for the WTCC. Great news coming off of the heels one of of the best debuts in the WTCC, winning race 2 of his home race in Argentina in the shitebox BMW. Citroen also confirmed a fourth car is on the way for the Asian races.
ROAL also has confirmed that they are running 2 new-spec Cruzes for Tom Chilton and Tom Coronel, expect them to be a real force once the season starts. We got a real battle on our hands come Marrakech in April, if you had any doubts that the season was going to be good consider them questionable at best!
Barbazza wrote:That kind of depends on whether you *really* like Citroens or Chevys. I very much don't unfortunately.
Have to agree, two rather bland and uninspiring brands with not much of a racing heritage (outside of the US for Chevy and WRC in recent times for Citroen, and that's been down to one bloke anyway). Add to that Honda (the only decent one there), Lada for crying out loud and a bunch of customer SEATs and I'd hardly call that an accurate representation of the global car industry. At least Honda and Citroen are attempting a decent effort but I can't quite believe the series is sanctioned by the FIA, it doesn't deserve it.
I'll be interested to see how Loeb does, and how the Citroen goes in comparison to the Honda, but otherwise I have no interest in it I'm afraid.
I follow Chris James on Twitter, and it does indeed appear that "ES Rhino Racing" will be on the BTCC grid come Brands Hatch. I'd wager a guess he's either found the cash to buy the Dynamics Civics (assuming that Dynamics haven't scrapped them for parts for the estates they're building), or he's bought two of the Gilham cars, probably the Insignias.

I'd be surprised if TGR were selling any of their cars, especially after how well Goff did in the Insignia at Brands.
I love reading Chris James's deluded horseshit, however it is a bad reflection on the BTCC though if he is allowed on the grid. (Although I wouldn't be that surprised if he starts anyway, Hans Heyer style)

I read elsewhere on Twitter that apparently the team is essentially the remains of the Arena team which Earle himself was also a part of. So really I think it's just going to be the same team with a different name and a few different backers, but still! Onyx are back!

AndreaModa wrote:So really I think it's just going to be the same team with a different name and a few different backers, but still!
Actually, Onyx has been around since 1999, branded as Arena. So basically, this 'new' Onyx is actually the original Onyx and Arena was the team with the different name.
Although I suppose it is good news, as it keeps Jordan on the grid for a fair while longer, so we don't end up with another farce like that in 2010, where Turkington couldn't defend his title, and WSR had to sign Andy Neate to replace him...

Yes that's what I assumed, because both were owned by Mike Earle correct? But this revival of the Onyx name coincides with a partnership between Earle and Arlington Industries Group which wasn't the case when the Arena name was being used, at least that's how I understand it.

Correct, they're only now called Onyx, until now it was Arena. Technically, Earle just bought his old equipment which has been sold to a Chinese company in between. All a bit messy, but it's still Onyx.
