Welcome Turobgirl! And for the record, your Women GT championship in the PMMF is very well run and organised! :)

Welcome turbogirl, I was also about to mention Dr Baker actually being lovely, but beaten to it! And 'The Vettel Debate' doesn't tend to rear its head too much here, though of course it's inevitable it does from time to time. You'll find the quality of debate here infinitely higher than places like F1Fanatic where I originally came from (and I hear autosport is even worse). So welcome :)

Thanks to all of you! I already met dr-baker (on this forum at least). He really seems like a nice guy. And how could I be scared by anybody? I'm female and I like motorsports. I think I've seen and heard everything by now.
I've been following this site for quite some time now - 2 years to be exact. I'm still impressed, that you actually have moderators who deserve to be called that. Compared to most other forums I've seen so far, this really IS a nice place to hang around. :D

That's why I've been here since I joined 10 months and some odd days ago, it is a nice place to hang around. Since I've joined, there have been a few rough patches, and probably have been some for 2 years in terms of forum behavior and such, but it's getting better. It's still much better than the Autosport forums or F1Fanatic. In fact, I originally joined just to do the Track Design Contest in the Black Stig forum when I found out there were much broader areas of the forum

I also kinda liked this place for the virtual racing series run in the PMMF. And when I first entered the new RTSS in the Sassetti forum, I just got hooked on to the team owner thing. It's probably where I make about 50% of my posts now, not that that matters. What matters is that it's a nice place to be, and has features that keep me coming back. So, by all means, contribute as much as you'd like! :)

There's been too much testosteron on this forum lately, but you're not only welcome because of the simple fact you are female, you also look nice enough as a person ;)
I was already fearing that i had to volunteer to take on the female role eventually. Eh forget that i ever said that, before i know it i'm on a date with dr. Baker

Re: Hello everyone! New members' check in desk

Post by More_Blue_Flags »

Having lurked here for a couple of months I thought it was about time to jump on board after following the Jerez testing comments - because F1 Rejects clearly doesn't have enough Aussies already. I first became a F1 fan as a ten year old in 1982 and throughout the 80s was always more interested in the drivers who would never quite be convincing challengers for the championship (think Watson, Patrese and Alboreto) or couldn't quite make it to the top step of the podium (say, Warwick, Cheever or de Cesaris) than either the legends or the rejects of the day. Crushing McLaren domination of the late 80s coincided with me discovering the usual interests of teenage boys (and shortly afterwards joining the army) and I lost interest in F1 (at what was probably the dawning of the great age of F1 rejects) until ....

... of all places, I was stuck at a shabby airfield during my last tour in Afghanistan in 2012, where the only entertainment while waiting for a flight from one side of the country to another was a tiny TV showing the Malaysian GP. My efforts at explaining what was going on to the American travelling with me were soon put right by the Italian and Spanish guys waiting for our flight (all tifosi and Alonso fans - who would have guessed?) and after a couple of hours of watching the race with blokes who knew what they were talking about I was pretty much hooked again.

After a bit of trial and error in re-educating myself, F1 Rejects looks a lot more whimsical, friendly and grown-up than most other options, and I look forward to occasionally throwing in my ill-informed two cents and occasionally sulking that things "aren't what they were back in my day". I might get around to having the occasional crack at track design or even entering a thoroughly rejectful driver somewhere in the PMMF (would love to roll a Trabant if the opportunity comes up) but my actual motorsport and gaming credentials are thoroughly rejectful - imagine a middle-aged man shouting "What part of MULTI 21 don't you understand??!!" to his eleven year old daughter as she effortlessly beats him on F1 2009 on the wii, and, well, you get the idea.

Looking forward to being brought up to speed on the Chilton Craze, the Wurz conspiracy, etc, etc, and rest assured I am all across the HWNSNBM/papaya expectations!

Thanks, pasta, I will take you up on that once I have had a good look around, along with any of the other youngsters who want to show an old duffer how it's done. It will have to be something simple and low-maintenance to start with as I don't have a lot of time on my hands - if I am going to end up as the Andrea Sassetti of a PMMF series I would rather it was for mutually-agreed comic effect rather than me wasting somebody else's time.

Oh, and favorite driver, as well… Jean-Denis Delétraz ;) From the current grid, Räikkönen, I think. I´m not following F1 very closely anymore (more interested in watching late-90s CART from YouTube :) .
