Here's a video from 2007, recorded on this track. I would have linked a 2012 touring car race video, if YouTube didn't shite itself yet again, but that video didn't start for me at all. I don't know if that is even possible to have a race here without some huge improvements. The asphalt quality for example looks below par.

How much will the Venezuelan government cough up to have the race? That's the main question.
When Montoya was a title contender, no one saw a reason to have another race in South America, so Maldonado certainly isn't entitled to "have his own race". The race won't make any money in terms of boosting the automotive industry, so it would come down purely to the $$$ paid to hold the race.

True, not to mention the automotive industry is doing quite well on its own around these parts. Having a race in northern south america to boost the industry would be completely redundant and idiotic. Besides people are apprehensive enough of Brazil, they'd never agree to a race being held in Venezuela, or say, Colombia way back when.

Sorry, I stand corrected as I appear to have conflated two slightly different factors.
The FIA's regulations do in fact state that the minimum length for an F1 circuit should be 3.5km, although it appears that they have slightly relaxed their requirements now (it used to say that they "will" take into account a minimum length of 3.5km, but now they "may" take it into consideration instead). However, it appears to be the case that, with the exception of Monaco, the shortest circuits that have been used in practise in recent years have had a minimum length of 4.3km, with Interlagos being the shortest conventional circuit in use right now (4.309km).

Honestly, I think 22 is way too many races in a season - this needs to be an exclusive list of F1 tracks, not something that includes everyone wanting to have a race. Plus, it makes every race that much better. 18 is my ideal number, 20 is a realistic hope for me.

Are we expecting Long Beach to happen then? Because I'd say the odds of the NJ GP going ahead are higher.
