Seeing as its been 2 weeks...

Best

=1. dr-baker (10 points)
=1. More_Blue_Flags (10 points)
=1. pi314159 (10 points)
=1. watka (10 points)

Obviously a real mix of preferences! I think its fair to give it to dr-baker seeing as he didn't get any negative votes whereas the rest of us did. Looking forward to your theme dr-baker?

Worst

1. UgncreativeUsergname (16 points)
2. peteroli34 (8 points)
=3. pi314159 (6 points)
=3. watka (6 points)
4. More_Blue_Flags (4 points)

A clear winner (all rejects are winners here!), we voted UU's J-shaped circuit to be as about as appealing as a used J-cloth.

Roll on the next round!

Well, a four-way equal first? Makes me think of... the '69 Eurovision Song Contest! And thanks watka for nominating me as a winner. Only my second win here...

My last one was particularly hard, so this time, it'll be easier, as promised. So the next challenge is based on the following press release, on April Fool's Day 2006:

01/04/2006 - Taking racing to the people wherever they may be is the key to the second series of A1 Grand Prix, starting at the A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Circuit Park Zandvoort, Netherlands at the start of October. And so is breaking new ground as the A1GP circus sets its sights on a series of venues that have never been used for motor racing before.

Many of these new venues will require specific regulations to draw the most from the 550bhp racers. For the Venice street race, crew catering will serve only Cornettos. For the hill climb in Tibet, half the field will start the course from the bottom, the other half from the top. For the night race in Lapland, huskies are to be used in place of scooters for moving items around the paddock. Cars will arrive flatpacked for the Ikea Cup race in Narnia, so extra time will be required for their assembly. Sniffer dogs will be used in place of marshals for the race in Baghdad to find any explosives in the cargo. Should any freight issues arise from the event in the Falklands, the event will be moved to Ascension Island. No one with hairy ears will start the races in Middle Earth until their ears have been plucked. Finally, fireproof overalls will be replaced by water wings for the Bikini Atoll extravaganza.

So, remember, A1 Grand Prix takes you places you've never been before.

A1 GRAND PRIX SERIES TWO DATES

29 September-1 October A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Circuit Park Zandvoort, Netherlands
13-15 October Venice street race (this replaces the round at Laguna Seca)
27-29 October Tibetan hill climb
3-5 November Kabul
24-26 December Lapland (night race)
5-7 January Narnia (for the Ikea Cup)
19-21 January A1 Grand Prix of Nations, USA - to be held in Baghdad (or Teheran)
26-28 January Canvey Island
12-14 February The Latvian round - to be held on the Isle of Dog (innit!)
26-28 February Falkland Islands
23-25 March Middle Earth 'the Ring'
6-8 April Bikini Atoll
20-22 April South Central LA (drive-by penalties will be enforced)

Date of release: April 1, 2006, Shanghai, China

Obviously, Zandvoort is a pre-existing circuit, so you can't design that. And for some reason, I doubt that Narnia and Middle Earth can be found on gmaps-pedometer, but Bikini Atoll definitely is. So, design a race track for any of the other rounds that were mentioned, ie:

Code: Select all

13-15 October Venice street race (this replaces the round at Laguna Seca)
27-29 October Tibetan hill climb
3-5 November Kabul
24-26 December Lapland (night race)
19-21 January A1 Grand Prix of Nations, USA - to be held in Baghdad (or Teheran)
26-28 January Canvey Island
12-14 February The Latvian round - to be held on the Isle of Dog (innit!)
26-28 February Falkland Islands
6-8 April Bikini Atoll
20-22 April South Central LA (drive-by penalties will be enforced)

Clarification: the January USA round MUST be in either Baghdad or Tehran. The Latvian round MUST be on the Isle of Dogs. No minimum or maximum distance - just to keep it fair for those choosing the Bikini Atoll!

So, remember, A1 Grand Prix takes you places you've never been before. :D 8-)

I have actually been to a surprising number of these venues - especially if you count the New Zealand national park where 'The Lord of the Rings' was filmed as a middle-earth substitute.

Anyway, I decided that a potential meeting of minds between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Bernie Ecclestone (with so much in common, especially attitudes to, er, unconventional financial incentives and transactions) was too good an opportunity to pass up, so here's the proposed Kabul A1 GP circuit. At 5.33 km it takes in just about every scenic attraction of downtown Kabul, and as the coalition military effort draws down this year there should be plenty of space for pit lane in the old ISAF headquarters opposite the start/finish line. Just like every road in Afghanistan, resurfacing will be required, but the good news is that there are already plenty of T-walls around the Presidential Palace, embassies and various government departments to line the track.

Well, this is nearly dead, so I'm going to declare the results.

Winners

Watka 30
Ataxia 28
Ugncreative 6

Losers

Benetton 26
Peteroli34 20
Go-Rubens 18

So watka, go ahead and set the next challenge. This last one is now in the history books, I reckon.

I know I'n not Watka, but I'm gonna try and resurrect this thread.
So I'm going to make my own category thing. And Watka can overturn this if he wants :P

So, the catergory is:

Recreate/butcher your favourite F1 Street Circuits. They don't have to be on the calendar right now, but the circuits you can choose have to have had a World Championship status (or to more simply put it, you can get points from this circuit). And they should have no more than 1km of non-street circuit stuff. And the track must be 3.5km-8km long.
Here is a list of circuits you can use :)

Adelaide
Albert Park
Boavista
Detroit
Dallas
Long Beach
Singapore
Monsanto
Montjuic
Pedralbes
Pescara (Should be around the Main Straight)
Pheonix
Valencia
Sochi
New Jersey
Baku (Around Azadliq Avenue, as the F1 race will be run around there)

Also, I made my own one, to give a little bit of a heads-up. This will not count towards point scoring.

Ima give you guys 2 weeks. Good Luck! And may the best (and most rejectful) track win!

Yes I think there should be a break of sometime before the next round or the next round as a new series in a seperate thread.

Okay, new challenge. This is completely independent of the "chain" we had going. Since no one cares about voting, I'll be the sole judge, and rank everyone. I won't just make a plain list, I'll try to explain why I've put tracks so highly and lowly.

Pointless Grand Prix
Use only existing roads, except going in the middle of a divided road or roundabout is allowed.
At some point, the circuit must be within ten kilometres of an already existing permanent circuit at least three kilometres long.
Don't worry about pit lane, roads being too narrow, escape roads, or any of those buzzkills. Just put some cool corners in!

The two days rule continues to apply.

I was thinking about this thread recently, and I thought that 1 person alone being the judge would be the solution. Maybe the ongoing winner could be the sole judge of the following round?

Anyway, my entry. Maybe call it the Dan Wheldon Commemorative Circuit? (See nearby town for where I got the 'inspiration', despite difference in spelling)

I tried doing one for the Korean International Circuit, but for some reason it just would not draw a route (North Korean hackers, I suspect). Luckily, I found an even better prospect in the Salzburgring: http://www.mappedometer.com/?maproute=374482
