The Marco Simoncelli MotoGP Thread
Re: The Marco Simoncelli MotoGP Thread
Nice to see Nico Rosberg in the paddock, visiting Valentino's box first and Jorge's second.
Great! race by Jack Miller in Moto3. I missed Moto2.
Race in thirteen minutes, hoping for a good one. MM goes for five in a row. Can he do it?
I hope VR takes another podium..

Re: The Marco Simoncelli MotoGP Thread
Have to say, old Valentino is in the prime time if Marquez ends up coming off and injuring himself - these consistent finishes have kept him in touch with Pedrosa, who himself, with Lorenzo so off-colour, stands his best chance at winning a title if Marquez does miss a few races.
Obviously Rossi doesn't have that last tenth that he used to have, but it's great to see him still be successful on a bike that clearly is no match for the Honda. It just shows how utterly awful the Ducati was (and still is).

And he's technically spent 1,5 decades in this class, which makes all this more of an achievement.

The Ducati engine is good, but he has mostly Rossi to thank for that.
It was a bit of a let-down that he didn't even mention Rossi's help during his press conference.

The amazing thing is that the numbers coming off the bike telemetry are even higher. If I remember correctly, Autosport reported last year the Hondas were hitting 223mph.

That must all be within 0.001 s! What were the official gaps/results?
And is anybody following the Manx TT on here? (I'm doing so purely through ITV4's 9 pm highlights show).

Jeez, that's awfully close! The numbers don't lie either...
1. Romano Fenati, KTM
2. Issac Vinales, KTM, +0.010
3. Alex Rins, Honda, +0.011
4. Miguel Oliveira, Mahindra, +0.121
5. Niklas Ajo, Husqvarna, +0.260
6. Alessandro Tonucci, Honda, +0.359
7. Juanfran Guevara, Mahindra, +0.597

I still remember when Elias beat Rossi by nothing and a bit;

2. Valentino ROSSI Camel Yamaha Team +0.002
Speaking of Rossi, nice way to celebrate 300 GP's today. From 10th to 4th in a little over two laps.
And three straight podiums.
But what can you say about Marc Marquez?
That little rascal rides beautifully. The way he was sliding his Honda those last two laps. Beautiful.

Has there ever been a closer gap between any two finishers in any race ever? It couldn't be any closer if you tried! It's closer than Schumi managed at Indy, isn't it?

I can remember lowest class having dead heat for the win twice. One was in Qatar with Lorenzo and Dovizioso and one might have been in Germany year or two ago.

It ended up being about 6/10s of an inch. Best part, it was on a holeshot.

Surprising news, or they-kind-of-have-to-say-that non-news?
http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2014/Suppo+Hondas+priority+is+to+keep+Pedrosa
I think everyone expects Dani to be replaced, but then again, what better options do they have? Dovi perhaps, though he's already had his chance and didn't do too well against Dani back then. Can't see Bradl as a factory rider.

Whoever they get will get kicked in the ass most likely by Marquez. So that other ride is a danger drive at the moment.

Impossible to hate Ant West, much like Mark Webber.
Marc Marquez is getting ridiculous now. Makes you wonder whether Lorenzo, Stoner and Pedrosa are/were that great at all.

Rossi gets another 2 years with Yamaha : http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2014/Yamaha+and+Valentino+Rossi+set+to+continue+with+twoyear+contract+extension
Will Honda stick with Pedrosa now, as we discussed a page or so ago? Though Lorenzo is not confirmed at Yamaha yet ...
Is there money for Jorge at Yamaha? Could Honda ditch Dani and get Jorge instead (though he seems very loyal to Yamaha, money looks like it will do the talking), I wonder?
Will Honda stick with Pedrosa now, as we discussed a page or so ago? Though Lorenzo is not confirmed at Yamaha yet ...
Lorenzo stated, “For this moment we have found some differences between us, but as I always say I would like to finish my career with Yamaha. It would be the most beautiful thing, to finish my career
with Yamaha without changing team. So hopefully we can find a solution.”
When pressed to expand on where those differences might be found, Lorenzo answered, “Mainly economically to be honest.”

Re: The Marco Simoncelli MotoGP Thread
To be honest, Honda should save money a ditch Pedrosa and replace him with... no-one. The team revolves around Marquez and he has many, many, many years left in MotoGP. The constructors cup means pretty much nothing in MotoGP, its all about the rider's title, so what's the point in running a 2nd bike in a discipline where it is so hard for one team mate to protect the other?

Also add the fact that only the best bike counts towards the results for the constructors cup, and the plan kinda makes sense. However, I think that there should still be a second Honda bike, mainly to get another great rider to compete in the series. Maybe he could bring some sponsor cash as well. Does the rules force both bikes to be the same livery? They could have different sponsors to advertise. Or they can circumvent this and have a satellite team with the factory's support run the sponsored bike.

Trying to push to find the next big thing so soon (if this is what you're suggesting) though would only serve to undermine Marquez and if anything cause him to lose his focus when right now the team should just be happy to sit as they are. If you're going to have a 2nd bike then may as well let Pedrosa keep the ride as he's solid but never going to be a threat to Marquez.
