Either France has a world class team, or Switzerland is rejectful. I suspect a bit of both, judging by Switzerlands poor qualifying. Yes that's right, poor. Winning a group where Iceland can become second really is not impressive. Most of their friendly games also have been against reasonable opponents. I expected Switzerland to dissapoint in this world cup. Group E and F really are unimpressive.

Italy and England: no comments

But well done on Costa Rica.

I don't give an uninspired Russia much of a chance against an Algeria like this, who gained a lot of confidence, and have faith in their own hand. They're most likely to play Germany, but it doesn't automatically mean they don't got a chance. They certainly got the spirit, and look to have a good physical condition (a lot of big teams look like they underestimated the physical side)

Well, going into the World Cup my team was, obviously, Australia - especially because they ticked all the underdog criteria and, particularly against the Netherlands, delivered a truly F1 Rejects-worthy performance.

My second team was Bosnia-Herzegovina, partly because I'm fond of the place having visited there a year ago, but again for the underdog factor and because I actually thought they might do something have scored 30 and conceded only 6 in qualifying. But they were disappointing, especially against Nigeria, and they're gone as well.

So yes, I'm now switching allegiances to my third underdog team that might have a chance of getting through ... step forward, Algeria!

FIFA needs to do something against repeated violent conduct, and ban Luiz Suarez from all forms of professional football for life.

He has done this too many times to just dole out a standard punishment like X games banned. This behaviour clearly cannot be taken out of his personality. It is here to stay. He will most certainly do it again. He knows that a few game bans aren't going to stop some teams offering him multi-million pound contracts after all the controversies.

It's time to put a stop to this type of conduct in football. Kick him out permanently, and make it clear anyone that follows his example will end up in the same situation.

I'm not certain how FIFA ban (anything he gets) can affect him in domestic leagues. Even though he was banned 10 games which included remainder of 2012-13 and early part of 2013-14, he was able to play in Confederations Cup last summer.

He should be certainly out from this tournament and next year's Copa America IMO. And that's just international matches.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ivory Coast could only score when Didier Drogba was on the field. The best example of that was in the game against Japan, when Drogba went on the field and within five or so minutes Ivory Coast turned their 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead. I'm not sure if it's either an extreme example of dependence on one player, or just a freaky coincidence, but it does raise a few questions. Either way, the team needs to learn how to play without superstars like Drogba.

They drew level against Greece once Drogba had left the field IIRC.
My point is that they qualified to 3 finals on the trot without ever making it through the group stage and I dont think theyll have enough to qualify for 2018. The train left the station and they were not in it.

For the love of Rejects, it's a nice thing to see Cercle Brugge - of all teams - could possibly have a player in the 1/8th finals! (Nigeria, and they have a player from Beveren too, not exactly much better)

One interesting thing when seeing which competitions the players come from, is that the Turkish competition easily makes the top 10, but their own players haven't been present at a major tournament for a while. Their clubs spend a lot of money, but their own talents don't seem to come trough (or choose for Germany and Switzerland instead).

I think the Dutch are worse than Costa Rica in the actual game.. still, they could wel go through on that one because of tactics. But I feel that Costa Rica is going to reach the semi's... and then it's over against Belgium.

Lads, bear in mind that Messi's only had to play against a fairly average Bosnia side, a poor Iran side and a very average Nigeria side. For a player of his standing, you'd be hoping he'd hit the net. I'm still curious as to how he'd fare against a team with more than two good players; same goes for Neymar.
