And here I was hoping that this would set in motion something that would eventually become Hype entering their own Formula One team, to rival their energy drink rivals Red Bull.

Yes, because getting rid of the driver who brings a ton of cash is a really sensible idea for a cash-strapped team...

While Lotterer is known best for his victories at Le Mans, he isn't exactly a stranger to single-seaters. He is, to be fair, a fairly recent champion in Formula Nippon and managed to come a close second last year in Super Formula despite driving two fewer points-scoring races than the eventual winner. I'd rather see Kobayashi in the other Caterham as opposed to Ericsson, with Kobayashi being one of my favourite drivers and a better, more experienced driver than Ericsson. Nevertheless, I don't expect Lotterer to completely disgrace himself, even if he hasn't got any recent experience in Formula One cars.

If that is the case, it will be all about publicity for Hype then. When was the last time you saw a can of Hype in a shop? I certainly can't remember. Maybe it's part of some sort of global launch or event they're planning, and a bit of attention around an F1 race will help generate a bit of buzz. It's certainly got us all talking in here!

BIG NEWS I'M USING UNDERLINE BOLD AND MASSIVE FONT SO YOU CAN TELL IT'S BIG

Chilton suspended, Rossi to race.
Marussia say the change is being made due to “contractual issues” with Chilton.

Team principal John Booth said: “Although it was not our intention to offer Alexander the possibility to race this season, in light of the circumstances we are pleased to be providing him with the opportunity to make his Grand Prix debut at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Franchorchamps.”

“Naturally we hope to resume normal service with respect to our established race driver line-up as soon as possible, but for now we wish Alexander well for the weekend ahead and we look forward to seeing him in action.”

Marussia try to outdo Caterham. Alexander Rossi will make his F1 debut this weekend. Who's he replacing?

Chilton

Excellent! Now we need some more test drivers to get their race debuts this weekend. Oliver Turvey at McLaren (because Gary Paffett will never enter a grand prix), Raffaele Marciello at Ferrari, Simona de Silvestro at Sauber, Daniel Juncadella at Force India, Nicolas Prost at Lotus, Sam Bird at Mercedes, António Félix da Costa at Red Bull, Carlos Sainz Jr. at Toro Rosso (to say sorry for the snub), and Felip Nasr at Williams.

As much as I like Chilton, I honestly hope the rumour that he's out of money is true, because this statement reads as "Marussia are up shite creek". :|

There has been some speculation about their finances due to the problems Marussia Motors have been experiencing, not to mention that Marussia recorded a pretty sizeable financial loss last year (around $50 million IIRC). They did attract a few additional sponsors, but their best hope is that they can hold onto 9th place in the WCC, because the potential financial windfall from the additional revenues from FOM might well be enough to keep the team alive.

Either way, we are now facing the prospect of a rather peculiar race in Spa...

I quite like it. Not only because its pretty true of BMW fanbois in real life, but it hopefully will bring that series back from the dead.

I choose this:

Its "American F1" related, but its Scott Speed in NASCAR, in a Red Bull. I can't think of three things more unpopular here. :D

So far the closest I have found (Still looking) is when Justin Wilson and Nicolas Kiesa started the 2003 German Grand Prix. However, it wasn't Wilson's first race, but it was his first race with Jaguar. Kiesa, meanwhile, was his replacement at Minardi.

Well it's going to be a fascinating battle for last between these two!

Rossi has some hope as at least he's had recent F1 testing experience, but it will be such a mammoth task for Lotterer. We can see from how slow Webber has been in the WEC how difficult it is to adapt between the two categories, and not just this but Lotterer was also slower than the regulars at the Spa 24 Hours. Of course, best example is Badoer, even with 10000s of kilometres of testing, he was still way off the pace ( :( ) in his appearance in 2009, so I really can't see any hope for Lotterer to be remotely competitive compared to Ericsson. I just hope that he isn't disgraced too much though as it unfairly reflects badly on Le Mans and the WEC.

Rossi's F1 debut in the same race as Lotterer's is just Virgin/Manor's way to steal publicity from Caterham's publicity stunt.
Now Sauber, please bring on Simona De Silvestro! ;-)

I mean Rossi would have had his race debut sooner or later anyway. It surely was Caterham who inspired this idea of the Virgin/Manor.

While this is money related there's no hiding that after his solid start to the year ever since Monaco where everything seemed to go against him Chilton has been thrashed by Bianchi since then and I think it's only right that he gets replaced instead. Note the lack of virtol against Rossi on other sites because he's replaced seemingly the guy everyone criticizes compared to Lotterer who's replaced a fan's favorite.

Besides maybe this 1 race break will give Maxie a boost similar to Alex Yoong in 2002 ;)

The trend this year seems to be races that we're not expecting much from or looking forward to (like Bahrain & Hungary) turn into classics, so I'm expecting the opposite to be true of this race and it's going to be a snooze-fest.

I hope I'm wrong though!
