My Virtual Formula 1 Career

Post by TheFlyingCaterham »

So today I started my Virtual F1 career with F1 2002 on the PS2. I start my career after Jarno Trulli is injured in a testing crash, and will miss out the rest of the season. I have taken his place as a driver for Bennetton/Renault and will debut at the 2001 US Grand Prix. How I drive for the rest of the season will determine whether I will keep my seat for the next season, or lose it and look for offers from Minardi, Arrows, and Toyota.

These are the qualifying results from the 2001 US Grand Prix, with a more in-depth introduction of my career in the description.

NOTES: I will have to change the difficulty up to hard for the next race. Only 12 cars made it inside the 107% time :?

These are my difficulty settings (as of 2001 US Grand Prix) -
Gears: Auto
Damage: On
Opposition Difficulty: Medium (will change to Hard for next GP)
Race Length: 16 Laps (Will change to 2 half distance races for 2002)
Interactive Pit Stops: On
Weather: Variable
Fuel Use: On
Tyre Wear: On
Failures: On
FIA Rules: On
Slip Steam: On
Game Breakers (Whatever those are): On

Finally, does anyone know how to change the driver/team names for this, if it is possible.
Also, I would also like to know if you can change the number of AI cars, if possible.

I hope you enjoy this,

2001 US Grand Prix @ Indianapolis

After a peculiar qualifying where only 12 cars qualify ex within the 107% time and new driver TFC claimed his first ever pole in his Bennetton, we head to the race, where everyone was cleared to race. Everyone got a good start, and it was a scrap between TFC and Juan Pablo Montoya for the lead, which was shortly won by TFC. Apart from Bernoldi spinning and a couple of cars DNF, nothing interesting happened for the first half of the race.

TFC came into the pits on Lap 8, thinking that his rivals would pit with him. He was wrong, and he came out in 9th. Some more cars DNFed with blown engines while TFC moved up to 7th, hoping that his rivals would pit. Then disaster struck on lap 14, where TFC got a penalty for cutting turn 8. This killed his chances of getting points in his debut, and finally relegated him to 8th place at the finish. Meanwhile, Montoya lead the field home, claiming his 2nd win of the season.

Results: [none anymore I've killed the link]

ROTR: Enrique Bernoldi - 2 spins and he made it very hard for me to pass him, even though I was clearly faster
RUROTR: Engines - 5 DNFs and most, if not all of then were due to engine failures

Notes: A good first race for me. If I can keep this pace in Suzuka, I should easily stay at Bennetton/Renault for next year

NEXT RACE - 2001 Japanese Grand Prix @ Suzuka
