2014 US of A Grand Prix Discussion Thread

Post by Londoner »

Whilst most of us already know Vettel is likely to be taking his sixth engine of the year this weekend, another penalty has just been announced, for Jenson Button, as he's taking a gearbox change.

Image

Penalties galore for this weekend and for the final two races of the season? I sure hope so, we need something suitably rejectful to happen after the week we've had here.

I believe Lotus are still running the twin-tusk nose until the end of the year - this is just testing for 2015.

I bet Lotus would trade that new nose for an early run with their new Mercedes engines. It wouldn't matter much since they are still one of the worst Renault teams.

Balls to this contrived, artificial and unrealistic F1 racing, ITV4 is showing Driven! (UK only)

Now that's proper racing, that is.

That is correct - they are using this as an opportunity to test a potential 2015 spec nose in the practise sessions given that they can then correlate the data against a known benchmark (the 2014 spec nose), but there are currently no plans to make a switch this year.

Williams IIRC had bad-handling car in 2013, but one that worked well in low grip/high downforce conditions (Bottas made Q3 in the wet in Canada and on the slippery COTA track). Ironically this year it is the other way round, Williams struggle in races with high downforce but I think there will another podium finish for one of the drivers, most likely Bottas after that drive last year.

A titbit of good news for Caterham and Marussia - they won't be penalised for missing the race

I can see Todt being a complete anus about this though, now that he's been informed by the stewards. :|

Well they arent. The playing field isnt level among Marussia, Caterham and Sauber. Sauber will spend a lot of money on racing, logistics and transportation not to mention incur wear and tear on limited components. Suppose in a madcap double-points finale Caterham score a 10th or 9th place? That would be fair enough vs. Marussia but it would be unfair to Sauber. Esp. if they had to take a penalty or suffered retirements due to worn out machinery?

Crippling to normal human beings anyway, and Lemmy is pretty feckin' far from normal. Come to think of it, anyone who plays Rickenbacker basses are pretty damn badass. Les Claypool, Cliff Burton, Jesse F. Keeler, Mani, Nick Oliveri, Scott Reeder, I could go on.

This thread is about Lemmy now.

Earlier, Benie said there may be 14 cars on the grid in 2015. Now, there could be 12 cars on the grid in Austin, as Lotus, Force India and Sauber are threatening to boycott the race. Why? Because the sport's too bathplugging expensive. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/n ... out-threat

2005 ruined F1 in the US so hopefully another farcical race this weekend will do similar and kill it dead. Not because I dont want F1 to race in the US, quite the opposite, but I think its just about the only thing that could make Bernie and co. sit up and pay attention. They dont care about teams going under but they may just care about the PR damage to their sport such an occurrence may cause.

Please don't kill F1 in the USA, I like COTA, and I think there's a market for it, especially with Haas joining in 2016.

Threaten to boycott the Abu Dhabi GP, that will make Bernie do something.
