BUT:

Big story again in local swiss newspaper this morning: Aloson has finally signed at McLaren.

Roughly translated:

The two-time world champion Fernando Alonso left Ferrari to commit for two years at McLaren-Honda. He then has an option for another year, if he can win races at McLaren.
For GP-senior Jenson Button (soon 35) this means the end. The 2009 World Champion at Brawn is after 265 races and 15 wins on the blacklist, because McLaren opts for the youth of Kevin Magnussen (22).

Firstly, only people who lack imagination are still using A.O.I.D.H. so don't worry. Secondly, I think its a dead cert now.

Or reasonably close to being a done deal, at least - the BBC were claiming that nothing has actually been signed, but that talks between Alonso and McLaren have reached a fairly advanced state and the odds are strongly on a deal eventually being signed.

The swiss newspaper claims, that the deal has been signed right after Sochi. We will see, if it's true.

In other news:
Sauber, Lotus and Force India have been offered 150 million dollars out of the CVC fund, if they don't boycott the Abu Dhabi GP. Donald McKenzie, board of CVC Capital Partners is rumoured to have made the offer to Gerard Lopez (Lotus). Hard to believe, but not only the swiss newspaper is claiming this; I also found the news in the "Times".

I am now hoping that his career in F1 last a long time. We may have on our hands another Villeneuvesque musical foray.

Apparently, Josh Hill also quit F3 to focus on his music, therefore depriving us of the chance to see the first third-generation champion. Any idea what his music is like?

No idea. But I know Jaime Alguersuari's music wasn't bad in its context. Apparently the sort of music rejectness achieved by Villeneuve is only possible to the very few who were Formula 1 World Champions.

If that's true, I'd say Button won't have a drive next year. But what I don't get is why the car in the image has a pre-2014 style nose?

Because somebody has taken an image of the MP4/26 and repainted it with the livery they probably hope will appear on the car in 2015.

By the looks of things, they are more or less simply rehashing the BBS's article on Alonso and their claims that he is due to shortly sign a contract with McLaren on a "two plus one" contract (i.e. a two year contract with an option for a third year, which is one of the most popular contract forms in F1).

That livery is a concept made by this designer, so it's not official http://cdebdesign.blogspot.fr/ and there's some more concept liveries here http://www.f1colours.com/2014/09/30/fan ... love-them/

On a related note, Marussia using one of those 2 red/white/blue liveries would be beautiful if they make it to 2015.

It's funny, because at first the liveries look as sexy as a bathplug in a bath, but thinking about it if they were actually on the track there's way too much going on.

What these designers don't realise is that it has to look good at 200mph as well as stationary.

Well, I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing some (not all) of these cars on track. I think Formula One should have more teams who change liveries like Vettel changes helmet designs.

But that's because they have to, because they cannot net season long sponsorship deals. It would be cool, of course, but I don't think it would be a good sign for the sport or the teams.

Breaking news :o

http://globoesporte.globo.com/motor/for ... a-f-1.html

According with Globo and the Felipe Nasr (yes, he confirmed it in a interview), the Brazilian is going to race for Sauber in the next year, alongside with Ericsson. Nasr signed a two years contract with the Swiss team.

No official announcement yet, but I believe it's truth, since Nasr confirmed it (I don't think he is going to lie in TV). And yeah, I know the "autosport or didn't happen" meme.

According to Globo (so, maybe not 100% confirmed) Felipe Nasr's bagged himself the other Sauber alongside Ericsson.

I think I can support them again!

This is interesting for Williams - Banco do Brasil are on the cars this year, and I think that stems from having Nasr as the reserve driver. Not sure whether Petrobras is tied to him as well - I think there's been reports that there was meant to be a bigger partnership between Petrobras and Williams for next season. I suspect they've been ditched by Nasr for not giving him the opportunities to drive. When you consider that Massa has been pretty average this season, I wonder how much the decision to keep him on will hurt Williams in 2015 and not offer Nasr the drive.

Hopefully Williams now have the resources to not need to give up Bottas or Massa's FP1s regularly in 2015.

Anyway, very happy for Nasr, think he has good potential, but never managed to put it all together in a whole season in GP2. Was quite a bit faster than Magnussen in the same team in British F3.

Ericsson and Nasr bringing the money for 2015.

Van der Garde brought good money for 2014.
Sirotkin brought good money for 2014, but at the end not what Sauber was hoping for.
Sutil has a contract for 2015, as he said in the interview after the crash with Perez, and that the situation is quite clear for him. As we see, it's not anymore.
Gutierrez was so long at Sauber, as there was money to get from Mexico.
And De Silvestro was only there, because she paid big money for the two testdrives. Sauber talked about building her up for 2015, but everyone knew that it was only about the money for Sauber.

In swiss newspaper they claim that, Van der Garde was set to drive for Sauber.

Translated with google:

It was already midnight when in Europe the message came that the Hinwil Felipe Nasr (22) engage the GP2 Second overall in Brazil, 2015.

In Sao Paulo sat at that time, 21 clock, Blick.ch with Nico Hülkenberg and its manager Werner Heinz at dinner. "That may not be true," suddenly said the Force India driver, who had in 2013 Sauber still given great 51 championship points.

Hulkenberg: "On Tuesday I talked to Giedo van der Garde. And he was so happy that he is allowed to drive at Sauber next year. "

Thanks to his hard rich Dutch father (McGregor Fashion, newspapers), the approximately 20 million francs dowry were not a real problem. Van der Garde had already paid this year as Sauber reserve driver a few million into the Zurich Oberland.

And now this shock. What has happened since? Werner Heinz to Blick.ch: "It's unbelievable. On Sunday after the race in Austin, I have initiated with Van der Garde in the Amber Launch on his contract! "

It was said even that Giedos father had purchased the Sauber team. And now drives Felipe Nasr, the former Williams reserve driver, in SauberC34-Ferrari. (Founded in 1808) with the logo of the South African banking giant Banco do Brasil on the side pods and on the back of the rear wing.

The same company had Ayrton Senna (died on 1 May 1994 in Imola) accompanied over 25 years ago the legendary on his long career. Could the Felipe Nasr on offer attractive last-minute offer of the Dutchman Van der Garde to a few million?

The Swede Marcus Ericsson had incidentally half of its dowry of around 20 million euros, its environment, transfer ever to Hinwil. It has been there apparently pulled from the bad experiences (including with Simona de Silvestro) the lessons.

At Sauber, the first major use of two real pay-drivers is worthwhile financially secure. Whether it is sporting what depends on the new car.

And what happened with Sutil Gutiérrez? Sutil insists further on his contract and must be paid well! He hopes for 2015 at the Porsche seat in the World Endurance Championship (next to Mark Webber and Neel Jani).

Gutiérrez is after 36 Formula 1 race at the end. He can only hope that the crazy comeback plans of the bankrupt team of Marussia and Caterham have really success.

Then it could there possibly keep some Mexico-million back over water.

Yes, for 2015 Williams are due to engage in a joint development program with Petrobras, whereby they would become the official fuel and lubricant supplier to the team (they are currently using the standard formulation from Petronas in their cars). Now, at the moment that deal still seems to be in place, but it could be that Nasr's departure undermines that position slightly - it may be the case that Williams can hold onto that deal through Massa's presence in the team, which could play to the Brazilian home market.

Well, it does seem that Sauber is perhaps the only teams on the grid that Alonso hasn't been linked with in some way by the more fevered press speculation. Still, the number of "reserve" drivers that Sauber has racked up in recent months is a little disconcerting if they are having to sell off reserve driver slots so frequently in an attempt to stay afloat, and I can imagine that this trend is likely to continue into 2015 if their finances take a further battering as their funds from FOM are cut. That said, Nasr is certainly one of the better options they could have gone for in 2015 (though, to be honest, it isn't as if Sauber's line up could have got much worse).

This, I appreciate that this is a bit of a sidestep in the conversation, but, and I've been meaning to ask this for a while, why are you using an image of the Ferrari logo with the 'cavallino rampante' switched for a character from My Little Pony?

Is it a sly reference to an old quote from Jenkinson about Ferrari's engine claims in the past? I recall that Jenkinson made an old joke that, when hearing about Ferrari's claimed power output from their latest engine, that "Evidently they also make the horses smaller in Italy then". Or is this some sort of avatar challenge that I've missed out on?
Martin Brundle, on watching a replay of Grosjean spinning:
"The problem with Grosjean is that he want to take a look back at the corner he's just exited"
