Motorsport phone apps

We hardly (if ever) seem to discuss motorsport apps on here. I only got my first smart phone a year ago, and obtained my first Apple product capable of having apps a month ago. So what apps do people have, and enjoy using? Which are free and which are good value for money?

I already have the Formula E app, which is free. The one from the Amazon App store basically acts just as a link to the FE website, whereas the one from the Apple App store seems to have the news, videos and FanBoost voting all self-contained within the app. And I am looking forward to using Brands Hatch's live timing app on their free wifi connection at some point in 2016 (seems to be only in Apple's App Store and not in Amazon's at the moment).

Does anybody use an F1 app? Do any good ones exist for BTCC or IndyCar? (PS I think the BBC iPlayer is brilliant for downloading the race to watch at a later date. Do many series offer the chance to download races to watch offline at a later time?)

I'm on Android and have the free version of the official F1 app. Never use it though. I'm not too sure what the market is for stuff like this, aside from live timing if you can't watch the race on TV. I guess if you have wifi, being able to stream races would be cool, but, if you're on wifi, why would you be using your phone when you could use a laptop/PC with a much better screen?

I prefer what Formula E are doing with Snapchat. That's a really good way to get quick bits of behind the scenes stuff, and often some live action clips too. That's real mobile marketing there.

The paid version of the official F1 app, while ungodly expensive is actually quite worth it. You get news, videos, interviews, live timing, live weather, telemetry, a GPS map of cars on track, and running (text) commentary of each session.

I bought it last year and loved it. Couldn't justify the $50 this year, but maybe next year again.

iOS? Android? What is all this malarkey? Someone send me something I can use, like a ZX Spectrum tape with a newly-programmed Formula E game on it.

I know of apps on iOS for WTCC, WEC, WRC and NASCAR to give a small example. There was also a live timing app for Super GT this season and in English as well but that has since been removed from the app store.

I am writing out information on all of the ones can find on the iOS app store right now.

I only had the WEC app as I was preparing for the opening round at Silverstone this season and whilst it was free, the ability to watch the races on the app would have involved a cost of £22.99 for the season. The cost also includes full data timing and access to exclusive content with on-board cameras, The application itself is free and offers access to videos, photos, information about the drivers, teams and circuits, timetables, interviews, live timing and access to social media links. Each race pack to access the live coverage can be purchased separately for £3.99 apart from Le Mans which is £7.99

The WRC application is free to download and offers news about the series, live radio and text updates and timing for when the events are happening and also results. As well as this, there is also access to videos, pictures and audio podcasts in the media section, detailed information about the drivers, co-drivers manufacturers and teams in the facts section of the app and access to social media. The WRC plus subscription ranges from £3.99 for one month to £39.99 for one year and this brings access to live stages, live maps, on-board footage and full highlights.

The WTCC application features access to photos, videos, information about the teams and drivers
as well as news related to the series for free.

The NASCAR Mobile application is free to download and install but offers monthly subscriptions for £2.99 and yearly subscriptions for £18.99. The basic app itself offers updates on the grid for the chase, leaderboards for all series, news, video and social media feeds, customizable notifications, schedule, driver standings and manufacture standings. The subscription gives the user access to in-race highlights, live leaderboards, live driver audio, live in-car cameras, live broadcast radio and officials radio, live telemetry and real time track position updates.

The NASCAR Raceview application is free to download and install but offers monthly subscriptions for £3.99 and yearly subscriptions for £29.99. the free version of the application lets users drive a 3 lap race with the desired goal being to beat the 2014 pole winner for each weeks race, 2015 schedule and drivers pages, track info pages with the feature of guided tours for each of the race circuits, top 10 driver info pages and a free 5 minute demonstration of live features during sprint cup races. The subscription gives the user access to 3D virtualized races, in which the user can rotate the camera, zoom in and out and also pan the track, live leaderboard, live driver audio and live broadcast radio and officials radio.

The IMSA application is free and offers live video of the races, live audio from IMSA radio, which is provided by Radio Le Mans, live timing and scoring as well as news, photos, videos and information on the teams and drivers in the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship as well as all of the other series run by IMSA.

The Formula E application is free and offers users the usual plethora of news, media scheduling and driver and team information. It also give access to the fan boost which is where fans vote for their favourite driver and the 3 with the most votes get extra power in the race at the press of a button which is only usable once per car.

The MotoGP Live Experience 2016 application costs £15.99 and for that price, the user gets access to live 3D tracking, live timing and live audio commentary on every practice session, qualifying and race of the season. It also gives users access to the full gamut of news, pictures, video, photos, information on the riders and teams and a guide to what MotoGP is with information on the history of the sport, technical information on the bikes and information on the rules and regulations.

Am I the only one suffering issues with the formula E app?

I couldn't each live streaming of qulafying on it for some reason, the stream was nowhere to be found and when I attempt to load a race replay or any full session from the video section it comes up with a message saying error loading this video.

Now that the new seasons are getting underway, are there any good Indycar apps, apart from the IMS app? I want to follow the current season before going out to the Indy 500, but I don't have an ESPN TV subscription.

Currently just downloading the F1 app to try over the next few weeks and months (free version for now).

Guess there is no IndyCar app then. Will just have to watch each race several days later when somebody posts it to YouTube then! (Once I've already read the race report on Autosport...)

The Official INDYCAR app is free over here if you have Verizon. Its quite fun having live timing open at Pocono while being at the race and listening to the radios via scanner. A bit overwhelming, but a great info dump.

Is it available for a fee if you don't have Verizon? Is it only available in the US?
