This qualm saga is getting ridiculous. It's not like there's any other Motorsport series that I would like to follow instead, like BTCC, Indycar, FE, etc (has F1 considered FE's qually system? That works.)

The aggregate qualifying is quite a nonsensical idea. It would only make qualifying more confusing for casual viewers, not add any excitement. Mercedes, Ferrari and the other top teams would just do two flying laps rather than one, and nothing would change for the mid-grid teams and backmarkers. Still it's much better than the current system so if we can't have the old qualifying back, I'm supporting the aggregate system.

To be honest, though, this is just one more thing to show that Todt, Bernie and co. don't understand or care about what the drivers, teams or fans want. The worst thing about this, and the reason why I'm talking about the death of F1, is that you never know what terrible ideas they'll come up with next time. Perhaps the next change will ruin the races. Someone jokingly suggested Trump to take over from Ecclestone if he loses the election. I say bring him on! As crazy as he is, at least he knows how to do business.

I don't want to jinx anything, but - based on absolutely nothing whatsoever - I am optimistic that Hamilton won't win today. Admittedly, Rosberg repeatedly winning would quickly become as dull as Hamilton walking away with the title, but hopefully Ferrari can not shoot themselves in the foot this week and take the fight for the win right to the end of the race and make it exciting.

Why don't we do something like Bump Day in the US? That's almost always exciting isn't it? Everybody gets to set a first laptime that counts, and then you get a certain amount of time, or laps, to bump people down, where the driver in last gets eliminated after some amount of time. It would be better if they had 2 minutes instead of 1m30s to set a laptime though. 1m30s is not even enough to complete a lap on many tracks.

Alternatively, why not have one big hour-long knockout session, like the current system but without Q1, Q2, Q3, and with the condition that the last, say, 8 drivers have to be out on track continuously for the last 10 minutes until they get eliminated? That way we avoid people coming back in before the clock runs out.

It's funny how the whole ethos behind qualifying has gone from proving you're fast enough over one lap to compete in the race to creating some sort of drama on Saturday so the race on Sunday will be even more dramatic. Personally, I don't see the need for it; qualifying almost never results in the grid remaining the same from lights to flag. Sure, the drivers at the top of the field usually stay there, but they would still probably end up winning even if they started in the midfield.

The only discipline where aggregate qualifying makes any sense is sportscars where you have more than one driver. That makes sense, all of their times together equals their spot on the grid. Why is this being considering for individuals?
