Should F1 have a new logo?

Post by The Chicane »

Now that Formula 1 has new owners it makes sense for things to be changed just like the ownership, I think its about time F1 debuts a new logo to represent the sport in its new era as F1 has used the same old bland logo since the 90's.

What do you think and do you have any possible ideas for a new logo?

I see no issue with the logo F1 currently has. It's simple (always a plus where logos are concerned) and does the job well when it comes to communicating the nature of the sport.

Actually, unless I'm very much mistaken the current F1 logo is even older than that. I recall seeing some photos from either the very late 80s or early 90s (basically the era from which I've seached photos for GPM2 mods...) where the current logo (or a variant of it) is already visible in the background. It just wasn't used much until the older "FIA Formula One World Championship" logo (which most of us are probably familiar with) was phased out.

As for the logo itself, I don't see a reason why it should be changed. The current one, while being fairly simple, gets its job done and has enough "action" going on it. Also, it contains a nice optical trick. :deletraz:

Indeed. Took me years to notice that the 1 wasn't exactly where I thought it was :chilton:

No. I like what we have now. And there's no obvious reason to change it.

Rebrands for the sake of rebrands have always been notoriously disastrous. UnlessF1 fundamentally changes its identity, a new logo is not needed. It has good brand recognition as is, changing it would erase that and require them to start over.

Besides, all they'd do is spend a million pounds or so on design consultancy and eventually decide on a white-on-black "FORMULA 1" with a registered-trade-mark sign, in Helvetica. After three months.

And after spending another million pounds and another three months, decide it should be in bold.
