Will cars run out of fuel again?
Will there be 3-4 second tyre stops again? Currently, the record for the fastest pitstop is the Benetton pitcrew at the 1993 Belgian GP servicing Ricardo Patrese, at 3.2 seconds, will that be beaten?

Will cars run out of fuel again?
It's probable that maybe one or two drivers will overdo it on race 1, but im sure the top teams have figured out how to manage their fuel levels during the race, they always have done since the turbo era.
Will there be 3-4 second tyre stops again? Currently, the record for the fastest pitstop is the Benetton pitcrew at the 1993? Now that refuelling will be out of the way, its likely, very likely. Also , the pitrcew may not need to wear fire overalls to do pitstops either.

Not at all sure the tyre stop record will be beaten, I think it's almost physically impossible to better 3 secs & I think there are more bits in the way now.

It also depends on the engines. Ferrari and mercedes might save fuel because the engine designs for the cars like weight power etc but cosworth teams might need to drive slower to save the fuel.

Yeah, there are hand-operated clips over the wheelnuts that didn't come in until about '96 or so, they add about a second to the wheel changing process.
I coined the term "Lewisteria". The irony is that I actually quite like Lewis Hamilton.

Well answered ADx_Wales - food for thought indeed. Looking at it, I might as well have a go myself.

I think that it is unlikely to happen regularly, although it is not impossible that somebody might run dry during the first one or two races when the teams are still a little uncertain about fuel consumption, and two drivers are running very close together on the road. But after that, the teams are going to have a much better idea of fuel consumption, and are likely to make sure that it doesn't happen again.

Certainly the teams will be pushing as hard as they can to ge the times into that bracket - Ferrari have already been working on quick release wheel nuts to gain a bit of time in the stops, and a few teams are experimenting with the traffic lights system. It'll probably take a bit of time for the crews to polish everything up, but I can see them getting close to those times later on in the season. But, I doubt that you would be able to get a stop below 3 seconds though - that time from 1993 will be the benchmark, but won't easily be bettered.

They will probably do as well as any other new team these days - they will struggle to keep up with the rest of the field (especially since the other teams have had much longer to perfect their DDD and aero packages, where the big time gains come from). Unless they can keep the money coming in, and the development up to speed, I can see the gap staying pretty static or even increasing as time goes on. As for who will beat who, I can see Lotus having the upper hand early on in the season, due to superior reliability (the VR-01 has been pretty weak in that regard during testing), but if the Virgin Racing team can sort out their hydraulics system, they might be able to finish ahead of the Lotus team. It'd be a bolder man then I to make a definite prediction at this stage, however, when we don't even know who is out front at the moment, let alone the rest of the grid.

If the Lotus team are right in estimating that (once they have their Bahrein package on) they are about 3.5 seconds/lap off the leaders (Virgin Racing are also bringing parts, so will probably be on a similar pace), and assuming that the leader doesn't push during the closing laps, I would hazard a guess at two laps down for Lotus and Virgin Racing. I expect the HRT entry to be further back - probably about a second a lap back - due to the lack of testing time, and probably end up 3 laps down.
How will Alonso, Button and Barrichello fare in their new teams?
With Alonso, it will depend strongly on both the car and Massa's pace - if the car is quick, and he can beat Massa, then it should be ok, but the car is uncompetitive or Massa challenges Alsonso (or starts beating him), we might see relations sour a bit (although I don't think that we'll see a repeat of 2007). Button will probably have a relatively quiet time by comparison - I can see him picking up a few good finishes, and beating Hamilton on occasion, but Button will probably aim to gain places through consistancy and being level headed. After all, he only DNF'd once last year - compare that to Vettel or Hamilton; arguably quicker drivers, but prone to poor judgement at times.
As for Rubens, I would really like to see him prosper at Williams, and perhaps he might. The Cosworth has got good grunt this year, it seems (joint second fastest at Barcelona on the straights), and this year Williams have learned from their mistakes and concentrated on their race performance, instead of showboating. He should also be a good mentor for Hulkenberg this year too.
How well will Schumacher do?
He certainly expects to be able to fight for points at the least from the outset, and for wins later on in the season. Assuming that the car is reasonably competitive, I think that he still has got a bit up his sleeve, and might pull out a few good races. However, whether the W01 will live up to expectations remains to be seen.
How well will Karun Chandok do?
He will probably fare no better or worse then most rookies - a few good races, tempered with a few silly mistakes when the pressure is on.
How fantastic will Kobayashi do?
Again, depends on whether the Sauber C29 is any good. I expect that there will be a few attacking and aggressive races from him as he seeks to impress the other teams. However, I exect that there might be a few times where his talent exceeds his adhesion, as Brundel says, when he pushes too hard. Equally, we're yet to see whether he can sustain a challenge throughout a season. So, the jury is still out on that one.

Simple - Carabantes has rather unceremoniously kicked Campos out of his own team, now that he has bought him out, and presumably intends to make his mark on the team.

About running out of fuel - I think some teams might start some races where there is a great chance of a safety car (like Canada) with a 90% or so filled up tank to make them lighter. So obviously if they take that gamble and a SC does not appear they might as well run out of fuel.

I would imagine 3-5 seconds off pace (maybe more for HRT) and Lotus will beat Virgin, unless Virgin get an equal car in terms of speed as they have arguably a better driver line up.

Alonso will have it tough against Massa who isn't exactly slow, but there'll be no repeat of 2007 as Alonso probably knows it'd wreck his reputation.
Button will do well against Hamilton I think but won't outright beat him. He'll certainly do better than Kovalainen.
Barrichello brings in the much needed experience Williams needed. Him and Hulkenberg make a good team in my opinion.

Most people ran their tanks dry for consumption figures in testing, so barring technical problems with the software, I can't see it happening a lot.

Alonso is one of my favourites for the Championship. I know the McLaren thing showed him as tempremental with a competitive team-mate, but he is a better all around driver than Massa, and I think he probably got some guarantees from Ferrari about his #1 status. All he has to do is stay ahead of Massa for the first few races to cement it. And I think he'll do just that.
Button will be demolished by Lewis.
Barrichello will be hard to guage. The minimum expectation is that he beats his rookie team mate. He'll fufill that, but we won't know how much of that is down to Rubens, and how much is down to Hulkenberg.
How well will Schumacher do?
He'll be the faster Mercedes, if it can challenge for wins, he'll win and he'll be in the Championship mixup.
How well will Karun Chandok do?
Probably slower than Senna. That will probably equate to last place.
How fantastic will Kobayashi do?
He'll pick up a smattering of points, but podiums might be beyond him and the car in such a competitive field.

I think the teams are wise enough not to cut it too fine. I'd imagine that they'd have to be an engine problem for this to happen.

The record will be challenged that's for sure. We've seen in recent years just how much practice the teams put into pit-stops, and the amount of times that cars have driven off with fuel hoses still attached or wheel-nuts loose in an attempt to shave off microseconds. I don't see why that will change for this year, the pit-stops will be lightning quick.

The 3 new teams will need a safety car race if they are to get any points. I will follow the general concensus that Lotus will do the better for the most part of the season as they seem reliable and have the more experienced drivers (Trulli is a real asset to Lotus)

Lotus and Virgin - about 3 times, maybe more though as they won't have consistent race pace as they'll be busy trying to make sure their cars can just get to the end of the race without breaking down. HRT - 5 times at least, they've had no testing, they'll be way off the pace if they make it at all.

All of these drivers will want to get the upper hand on their team-mates. It might not happen for any of them though. Alonso will most certainly be in the title hunt, but Massa will not give him an easy team. Button will be what he was brought in to be, a solid #2, more so than Kovalainen was. Barrichello will be steady in a kind of Heidfeld way I would guess, but I think Hulkenburg is capable of a few stellar performances here and there and this may unsettle Rubens.
How well will Schumacher do?
He's clearly team leader, so that will benefit him. The car doesn't seem fast enough yet, but he may nick a win or 2 based on pure cunning instinct, and making vital overtaking manoeuvres.
How well will Karun Chandok do?
Appallingly, but it won't be his fault, because he hasn't tested.
How fantastic will Kobayashi do?
Optimistically, he could lead Sauber to 5th place in the constructors, and grab a handful of top 5 finishes. Realistically, consistent lower end points finishes are more likely.

Because with him in change, there was no team. As Kolles said, they had nothing.

How will Alonso, Button and Barrichello fare in their new teams?
All of these drivers will want to get the upper hand on their team-mates. It might not happen for any of them though. Alonso will most certainly be in the title hunt, but Massa will not give him an easy team. Button will be what he was brought in to be, a solid #2, more so than Kovalainen was. Barrichello will be steady in a kind of Heidfeld way I would guess, but I think Hulkenburg is capable of a few stellar performances here and there and this may unsettle Rubens.
How well will Schumacher do?
He's clearly team leader, so that will benefit him. The car doesn't seem fast enough yet, but he may nick a win or 2 based on pure cunning instinct, and making vital overtaking manoeuvres.
How well will Karun Chandok do?
Appallingly, but it won't be his fault, because he hasn't tested.
How fantastic will Kobayashi do?
Optimistically, he could lead Sauber to 5th place in the constructors, and grab a handful of top 5 finishes. Realistically, consistent lower end points finishes are more likely.
Why isn't Adrian Campos running his team any more?
Because with him in change, there was no team. As Kolles said, they had nothing.

Couple of opinions
Will cars run out of fuel again?
Nah. We may see drivers slowing down in the last laps, though. Cosworth, I remind you, has the big advantage of not having had their development frozen yet, they'll be able to benchmark and improve over and above the rest.
The record for the fastest pitstop is the Benetton pitcrew at the 1993 Belgian GP servicing Ricardo Patrese, at 3.2 seconds, will that be beaten?
Controversial opinion: it will be beaten. Money will be poured into this area, innovation will ensue. My fear is there will be accidents with the new tech employed (loose wheels!), and a subsequent clampdown, closing the doors after the horse has bolted. After Surtees, the FIA will be looking at this closely, although I was surprised last year they didn't bad the dustbin lids covering the wheels on the spot.
How will the new teams fare? Will Virgin beat Lotus or vice-versa?

Button may struggle, if it is proved F1 2010 will be about adaptation to different fuel loads, not about tyre management.
Barrichello will start well, then will be comprehensively outpaced by The Hulk by the time of the Jerez race. He will proceed to throw a fit and be hit with a gearbox on the head by Patrick Head. Serious.

As well as usual. Depending on the updates, he may be a force to be reckoned with. Hope beyond hope Rosberg will beat him.
